Chapter 12: Hurry up and give him a son

Shen Sisi lay in bed, tossing and turning all night.

Gu Chengfeng was being mysterious, and her uncle was evasive and secretive.

Her intuition told her that whatever they discussed in the living room wasn’t good.

She vaguely guessed, but wasn’t sure, feeling restless and anxious.  Her movements were a little loud, accidentally waking Niu Niu.

Niu Niu restlessly shifted in her bed, coughing violently several times, a heart-wrenching sound.

“Mommy… uncomfortable…”

Shen Sisi’s heart ached, pulling her into her arms.

Niu Niu curled into a ball, desperately seeking warmth from her mother.  Smelling the familiar scent, her arched back gradually relaxed.

Shen Sisi gently patted her back, humming a lullaby in a soothing rhythm: “Sleep… sleep… my dear baby…”

Children sleep soundly, and soon, lulled by the song, she fell back asleep.

But from her little pink mouth came mumbled words.

“I have a daddy…”

“I’m not a wild child…”

“Hee hee…”

Shen Sisi’s eyes welled up, her anxious heart gradually becoming clear and firm.

Regardless of her uncle’s intentions, whether he agreed or not, she would leave Lin County with Niu Niu and Gu Chengfeng!

She not only wanted to give Niu Niu a complete family.

But also to find the best doctor to treat her!

She slept soundly, waking up to a bright day.

She got up, tidied herself and Niu Niu, went to the kitchen to light the stove and start making breakfast.

The kitchen was small, with a stove, a cupboard, and a small cutting table, filled with the things Gu Chengfeng had bought.

Looking at the two glistening pieces of pork belly, she couldn’t help but swallow.

Niu Niu hugged her leg, tiptoeing to look at the meat on the table, her mouth watering.

“Mommy, I want to eat meat.”

“Okay, wait! Mommy will make minced meat, minced meat noodle soup.”

Niu Niu hummed, dancing with joy: “Niu Niu likes Mommy’s minced meat the most…”

Shen Sisi smiled, her cleaver easily cutting a small piece of meat.

She removed the pigskin and set it aside, chopping the pork into fine mince.

The minced meat had fat, needing only a little oil to fry until golden brown and sizzling.

Adding a little salt and soy sauce, the aroma of the meat immediately filled the air, making one’s mouth water.

After frying the minced meat, she added a bowl of water to the pan, and boiled the noodles.

When the soup was almost dry, she added the minced meat, stirring it together.  Once it reached the desired consistency, she scooped it out, sprinkling some chopped green onions.

A delicious and beautiful bowl of minced meat noodles was ready.

Niu Niu eagerly grabbed her chopsticks, mumbling about eating golden meat noodles.

Shen Sisi wiped the sweat from her forehead, about to blow on the noodles to cool them before feeding Niu Niu, when Chen Jianguo came in, smelling the aroma.  Seeing the small piece of cut pork and Niu Niu’s noodles, his face darkened, and he began to scold.

“Eat, eat, eat, you’re dying, why eat meat, wasting food! I say, just get rid of this drag, send her back to the countryside, live a good life with Xiao Gu, and have a son.”

Shen Sisi’s face fell, wanting to hit him with the spatula: “Who’s dying? Dare you curse my daughter again?”

“You’re getting cocky now that you have a backer, aren’t you? Shen Sisi, don’t think you can rest easy just because you’ve found a fool. He’s only after your looks. Once he’s constantly called a cuckold, we’ll see if he still wants you! Just wait to be kicked out!”

Shen Sisi’s hand holding the chopsticks trembled: “Mind your own business.”

“Shen Sisi, don’t push your luck, I’m doing this for your own good. Leave the child behind, marry him, and quickly give him a son, otherwise…”

“Enough!” She felt nauseous hearing another word: “I won’t abandon Niu Niu, and I won’t use a child to tie down a man. You just don’t like us, so we’re leaving…”

Without another word, she scooped up Niu Niu and rushed towards the door.

Leaving so decisively, she knew Chen Jianguo wouldn’t let her go.

If she left, wouldn’t his plans be ruined?

Sure enough, before she reached the door, Chen Jianguo became anxious: “Leave? Where are you going? The whole compound knows you’re getting married, do you want to make us a laughingstock?”

Shen Sisi paused: “Fine, we’re not leaving, but we’re having minced meat noodles.”

Chen Jianguo gritted his teeth in anger: “Eat, eat, eat…”

Shen Sisi smirked, like a sly fox: “Since I’m getting married, I want a good meal. I want braised pork, mushroom soup, green beans and eggplant for lunch…”

“Shen Sisi, don’t push your luck…” Chen Jianguo yelled.

Shen Sisi pouted and shrugged: “Fine, I’ll leave! I’ll eat outside.”

She moved a few steps forward, the sound of putting on her shoes loud.

Chen Jianguo’s teeth were grinding, thinking that Gu Chengfeng would arrive soon, he blushed: “Don’t go… come back, I’ll have your aunt make it for you.”

Shen Sisi exchanged a look with Niu Niu, a triumphant smile on her face.

Zhao Shilan leaned against the door, laughing. She never thought her Lao Chen would be controlled like this.

She was happy, and worked especially hard, finishing a table of food by 11 o’clock.

Golden braised pork, exuding the aroma of soy sauce and meat; garlic and chili fried eggplant and green beans, already soft; beautiful tomato mushroom soup, fried peanuts, garlic white cabbage… rich like a festival.

Shen Sisi could barely control her saliva, Niu Niu was already sucking her fingers.

Chen Jianguo didn’t let them eat, his eyes constantly glancing at the clock on the wall.

It was almost 12 noon, why hadn’t Gu Chengfeng come yet?

Could he have broken his promise!

Shen Sisi wasn’t worried at first, she knew Gu Chengfeng kept his word, if he said he’d be there at noon, he would be.

As time ticked by, Shen Sisi’s heart tightened.

There was no news about the medicine, could something have happened!
