Chapter 6
“Great!” Shen Qiuting cheered and ran to call her brother.
Xu Yi turned and went into the kitchen.
Of course, there was nothing in the kitchen. After a careful inspection, there was not a grain of rice in the rice jar. There was only a small spoonful of coarse noodles, two sprouted sweet potatoes, and the oil, salt, sauce and vinegar were almost used up.
Xu Yi sighed.
It’s even cleaner than when the Japanese invaders raided the village.
Fortunately, she has a space. The food in the space is enough for her and her three children to eat for a lifetime.
Although there was no food at home, there was a lot of firewood piled up, perhaps because they didn’t cook often.
Xu Yi followed the original owner’s memory and tried a few more times before finally starting the fire.
She pretended to boil a pot of hot water. When smoke started coming out of the chimney, she took out a pot of rice, a plate of stir-fried pork with cucumber, and a plate of braised cabbage with vinegar from the space.
When the food was served, the two children were still mumbling in the yard. It was unclear what they were talking about. Xu Yi called out, “Dinner is ready.”
The two children raised their heads at the same time and looked towards the table in the living room.
There were indeed two plates on it.
Shen Qiutong swallowed and said in surprise: “Brother, look, I didn’t lie, Mom really cooked for us!”
Hearing Shen Qiuting’s words, Xu Yi laughed a little.
It turned out that Shen Muguang didn’t believe that she would really cook for them.
Perhaps the original owner had deceived them too many times with this kind of thing, so Xu Yi didn’t want to explain it. After all, the delicious food would explain it for her.
Walking out, Xu Yi waved at the two of them and said, “Aren’t you hungry yet? Come and wash your hands before eating. Children who don’t wash their hands are not allowed to eat.”
Shen Qiuting ran over first, and with Xu Yi’s help, she washed her hands obediently.
“Okay, Tongtong, you have washed your hands. You can go eat now.”
Shen Qiutong responded happily and ran in happily.
After a while, her surprised voice came from the living room: “Wow! There is meat to eat today! It smells so good!”
Shen Muguang, who was still under the tree in the yard, heard it and swallowed uncontrollably, stretching his neck to look inside.
But the distance was too far, and he couldn’t see whether there was really meat to eat.
He looked at Xu Yi, then looked at the living room, hesitated a little, and then lowered his head.
Xu Yi felt like laughing when he saw his expression.
“Guangguang, aren’t you hungry?” She squatted next to Shen Muguang.
Shen Muguang lowered his head: “I’m not hungry.”
“Gurgle…”
As soon as he finished speaking, there was a gurgling sound from Shen Muguang’s stomach.
Xu Yi laughed out loud: “Whose little belly is singing?”
Shen Muguang blushed: “It’s not me anyway!”
This child is young but very stubborn.
It’s not good for a child to be hungry. Xu Yi took his hand, walked to the well, and scooped water for him to wash: “Wash yourself clean and go eat. If you don’t eat now, all the meat will be all yours.”
Shen Muguang: “Then give it to my sister.”
Xu Yi was slightly surprised.
In this era when people were hungry and cold, meat was rare. I didn’t expect that this child didn’t care about food at all.
It’s really rare.
After washing, Xu Yi rubbed his head and said, “Don’t worry, I fried a lot of meat today, enough for both of you.”
Shen Qiutong jumped down from the chair and came out with a piece of meat between her chopsticks: “Brother, open your mouth, ah…”
Shen Muguang subconsciously opened his mouth, and the fragrant meat was stuffed in.
After chewing for a few times, the delicious meat was eaten.
Chen Qiutong’s big eyes curved with laughter: “Brother, is it delicious?”
Shen Muguang nodded: “Delicious!”
“Then let’s eat!” Xu Yi brought the two children to the dining table and served each of them a bowl of white rice with some soup on top.
The two children were still young, and perhaps because they had not had enough to eat all year round, they ate very quickly, but not a single grain of rice fell on the table. When they saw the meat, they would not grab it, nor would they stare at it while eating. Instead, they would finish one piece before taking another.
Xu Yi had just eaten two meat buns and a glass of milk and was not hungry at all, so he sat next to them and picked up some food for them.
Shen Qiutong blinked her eyes: “Mom, you eat too.”
Xu Yi smiled: “I’m not hungry, you guys eat.”
Shen Muguang glanced at her and suddenly went to the kitchen.
He came out again, holding a bowl in his hand, and was about to get some rice.
At a glance, the rice in the pot was gone, and Shen Muguang suddenly felt embarrassed.
Xu Yi looked at him: “Guangguang, are you going to prepare some food for me?”
Shen Muguang nodded: “But there is no rice, Mom, you eat the rice in my bowl.”
“I’m not hungry, I just want to eat some vegetables.” After all, it was the child’s kindness, Xu Yi couldn’t refuse, so he took the bowl and took a few bites of the vegetables politely.
The two children didn’t eat much, so Xu Yi didn’t pack out too much rice, only enough for the two children.
Seeing that she refused to eat, Shen Muguang kept putting meat into Xu Yi’s bowl.
Shen Qiutong saw this and followed suit, putting some meat into Xu Yi’s bowl.
Looking at the half-full bowl of meat, Xu Yi quickly took the bowl away: “I’m really not hungry, you guys eat quickly.”
After hearing this, the two children stopped talking and ate their meal quietly.
Xu Yi calmly put the meat slices in the bowl into the bowls of the two little guys.
The two children were so thin that they had no flesh on their bodies and their hair was very dry and yellow. They looked completely devoid of nutrition.
Looking at the two people concentrating on eating, Xu Yi secretly decided: Since I have come here, I must replenish the nutrition of the two children!
After dinner, Shen Muguang took the initiative to wash the dishes.
When Shen Qiutong saw her brother washing dishes, she went over to help.
Xu Yi did not stop them.
After all, washing dishes is not a hard job. If the children are willing to do it, just let them do it.
He just reminded me: “Be careful when washing the dishes, don’t get your clothes wet.”
The medical system in this era was not very complete, and some people with weak constitutions could die even from a minor cold.
Only after hearing the two children respond obediently did Xu Yi return to his room.
After such a long time, Xu Yi felt much better and didn’t want to lie down anymore.
The main thing is that she hasn’t taken a good look at this house since she woke up.
Now looking closely, not only the room where she sleeps, but the whole house is extremely dirty.
There are even spider webs above the kitchen, densely distributed across the entire roof.
Xu Yi felt a little numb.
I don’t know how the original owner could live in this dirty and messy environment.
There was no choice but to clean it up.
Worried that the two women had not left during the cleaning process, Xu Yi took out two lollipops from the space, peeled off the outer candy wrappers and put them in the space, gave one to each of the two children, and asked the two children to stay at home obediently.
Shen Qiutong and Shen Muguang had never seen such candy before, and asked curiously: “Mom, what is this?”
