Chapter 239: As Long as You Don’t Go Looking for Fairy Fengya (Sixth Update)
Sha Nian-nian had always felt inferior due to her stuttering, and she had an introverted and shy personality. When Ye Wenxin held her hand like this, she felt even more uncomfortable.
But seeing the murderous gaze Ye Wenxin cast her way, she could only let Ye Wenxin lead her obediently, and the two of them walked up together.
All eyes were focused on them; even Jin Xiaoqin couldn’t help but glance at Sha Nian-nian a few more times, silently questioning her unconventional second disciple’s choice.
Ye Wenxin gave a strained smile and pretended to put her arm around Sha Nian-nian, which irritated Jin Xiaoqin a bit.
However, Jin Xiaoqin couldn’t openly educate Ye Wenxin about love in front of everyone else.
“Ah, Xiao Hei (Little Black), I feel relieved to have you accompanying Wenxin,” Jin Xiaoqin said with such sincerity.
Although she didn’t even know this inner disciple, Ye Wenxin seemed to want to bring her along, so Jin Xiaoqin could only go along with the act.
If someone else had arranged things, Ye Wenxin wouldn’t have dared to be so bold. But this time, the selection for other disciples was handled by Jin Xiaoqin.
As Jin Xiaoqin appeared to know Sha Nian-nian, aside from some people curiously inquiring about which sect leader’s disciple Sha Nian-nian was, no one had any further suspicions.
Ye Wenxin didn’t dare to relax. She released Sha Nian-nian’s hand and respectfully performed a disciple’s greeting to Jin Xiaoqin.
Although Jin Xiaoqin had some opinions about Ye Wenxin taking someone down the mountain with her, seeing Ye Wenxin’s proper manners, she only glared at her a few times, but ultimately didn’t ask for a reason.
Seeing that she had passed with Jin Xiaoqin without issue, Ye Wenxin then greeted the Sect Master and other elders.
Everyone saw Ye Wenxin’s confident demeanor while holding Sha Nian-nian’s hand, and naturally didn’t associate Sha Nian-nian with the demon sects. Some even gave Sha Nian-nian a few compliments.
Sha Nian-nian felt both awkward and shy. It was precisely this innocent expression that made everyone believe she was just an ordinary inner disciple, so they didn’t trouble her.
Ye Wenxin proceeded to approach several senior sisters and brothers, introducing herself to the group.
Huang Hanyan was among them. Although she was quite surprised to see Ye Wenxin, she still kept a cold distance, maintaining a neutral expression.
Before long, Madam Yu arrived late with her daughter, Qiao Ni.
Today, Madam Yu was dressed in an elegant white outfit, with light makeup on her face, making her look incredibly beautiful and tender, like a peach.
She smiled at everyone, and her mature charm made everyone’s heart skip a beat. Many couldn’t help but take a few more glances at her face.
Madam Yu also carefully observed everyone, and it was evident that she truly had a gentle personality.
Her smile froze slightly when she noticed Ye Wenxin, but Madam Yu quickly recovered and approached the Azure Wings Sect disciples who would be escorting her, performing a graceful curtsy.
She possessed such natural bearing, that nothing more beautiful could be imagined, causing the shyest senior brother to blush.
Ye Wenxin marveled at Madam Yu’s boundless charm, when she suddenly felt a tap on her shoulder.
Feeling puzzled, Ye Wenxin turned to see that it was Jin Xiaoqin.
“Here comes Elder Wu. Keep that girl away from him,” Jin Xiaoqin whispered.
Just as Ye Wenxin was about to explain that she had nothing to do with Sha Nian-nian, she saw Elder Wu already squeezing into the crowd.
Elder Wu, dressed in elder robes, exuded a sage-like aura. However, his eyes were very narrow as he scrutinized everyone around him.
He stared at Huang Hanyan for about three seconds, then glanced at a rather attractive senior sister for one second, and finally, his gaze landed on Ye Wenxin.
After only 0.1 seconds, Elder Wu’s eyes moved to Madam Yu.
Ye Wenxin suddenly felt a bit annoyed, but remembering that Elder Wu was a scoundrel, she suppressed the feeling and watched his interaction with Madam Yu.
“I am Elder Wu, the leader of this group,” Elder Wu introduced himself, being fairly proper, without blatantly staring at Madam Yu’s beautiful face.
Despite this, Madam Yu instinctively pulled Qiao Ni back a bit, showing her wariness toward men. She nodded slightly and continued, “This servant is Liu Siyu.” (TL: Exact same surname as Liu Churan)
Recognizing the difference in status between an elder and ordinary people, Madam Yu maintained a distant yet polite demeanor.
Elder Wu smiled and looked at the others. He engaged in some polite conversation with those around him, mostly about having each other’s backs.
“Quite the actor, isn’t he?” Ye Wenxin couldn’t help but quip at Elder Wu’s behavior, only to receive a disapproving glare from Jin Xiaoqin.
“Don’t worry about his act. Remember to protect yourself and that girl of yours, and don’t meddle in other affairs,” Jin Xiaoqin admonished.
Ye Wenxin felt sullen. Every time she encountered Jin Xiaoqin lately, Jin Xiaoqin always warned her to be cautious of Elder Wu.
Maybe because Fairy Fengya didn’t talk much before, Ye Wenxin found Jin Xiaoqin genuinely nagging, always treating her like a child.
But on second thought, she really was a fourteen-year-old child, even though she was just pretending.
“Master, don’t worry. I mean, look at me, do I seem like a busybody?”
Ye Wenxin asked, somewhat dissatisfied. However, seeing that Jin Xiaoqin meant well, she couldn’t bring herself to be angry.
Yet after thinking it over, they seemed like two old women exchanging concerns, which unsettled her a bit.
“Too much so. Regardless of who that girl is, get rid of her quickly,” Jin Xiaoqin said.
She gave Sha Nian-nian a few surreptitious glances, as if already sensing something was amiss.
As the Hall of Teaching’s most powerful elder, she naturally had capabilities equal to her rank. If it weren’t for Ye Wenxin, she would have probably captured Sha Nian-nian by now.
Ye Wenxin was slightly taken aback.
She could tell there was more to Jin Xiaoqin’s words, but what surprised her was Jin Xiaoqin’s willingness to help, making her feel that this master was truly different from others.
“Why are you looking at me like that? I’m not Xiangsi, and I have no interest in the same gender.”
Jin Xiaoqin knocked Ye Wenxin on the head in dissatisfaction; she truly saw Ye Wenxin as someone who fancied women.
However, Jin Xiaoqin showed no signs of disgust or displeasure, and her open attitude made Ye Wenxin believe she had found a real treasure in her master.
“Master, your disciple is unfilial and cannot always be by your side. These pills are—”
“Scram! As long as you don’t go looking for Fairy Fengya, I don’t care what you do! As for these useless pills, you better keep them for yourself.”
Ye Wenxin’s attitude annoyed her even more. She kicked Ye Wenxin on the butt. This reaction blurred the line between master and disciple, making them seem more like friends.
Ye Wenxin felt a bit embarrassed by the kick but quickly joined the already moving group.
Jin Xiaoqin continued to follow, clearly unable to feel at ease letting Ye Wenxin go on her own.
Author: When writing about Jin Xiaoqin, I always think of Saintess Haitang Duoduo from the TV series “Joy of Life”. I find that saintess super cute and wonder if Jin Xiaoqin can have a bit of her charm.
TL: “Joy of Life”, “Thankful for the Remaining Years”, or “Qing Yunian (庆余年)”, is a 2019 TV series adapted from the Chinese novel of the same title, written by Mao Ni. It has 2 seasons (51 eps). Genre – historical fiction, political, and romance.

Not just same surname as Liu Churan, Wenxin also thought Madam Yu’s eyes looked familiar back in c235. Interesting…
