Chapter 240: Hold Her, Hold On to That Girl (Seventh Update)
The road ahead was long, and Jin Xiaoqin continued to follow until they were nearly at the Sky Bridge. Only then did Jin Xiaoqin say, “Remember, if you can’t win, run.”
This sentence carried a master’s overflowing emotions. Ye Wenxin gave a nod. She didn’t know what lay ahead for her, but she remembered Jin Xiaoqin’s kick.
If there was a chance in the future, she would definitely repay this kic—no, this master-disciple kindness.
With these thoughts, the group began to quicken their pace. Ye Wenxin also caught up to Sha Nian-nian and walked alongside the others.
Sha Nian-nian turned to look at Jin Xiaoqin and couldn’t help but sigh, “Your… master… is really nice.”
“Don’t talk nonsense. She just doesn’t want to cause trouble; that’s why she’s willing to help you.”
Ye Wenxin also felt sentimental. She realized that most of the people she encountered were too kind, so much so that she couldn’t bring herself to hurt them.
Even though she knew that the Azure Wings Sect was not her final destination, for some reason, Ye Wenxin started to feel a sense of home here.
Perhaps after being empty for so long, and then receiving all this warmth, she had grown weak.
“It’s not… avoiding trouble… it would cause… bigger trouble.”
Sha Nian-nian didn’t take it so seriously, but seeing that Ye Wenxin didn’t want to continue this topic, she didn’t pursue it further.
The journey continued onward. Due to the mountainous terrain, they could only take the carriage at the foot of the mountain.
Although everyone was at least an inner disciple, not everyone knew how to fly on a sword. They would all change into more ordinary attire at an inn and proceed on foot to avoid drawing too much attention.
The reasons for this were: firstly, a large group of Azure Wings Sect disciples escorting someone down the mountain would appear too conspicuous, and secondly, it would cause inconvenience during the journey.
Ye Wenxin walked at the rear of the group, with Sha Nian-nian consistently by her side.
“You can go now.”
“No… hurry,” Sha Nian-nian replied.
Ye Wenxin wondered if she imagined it; she always felt that if she just gave the word, Sha Nian-nian might just cling to her for the rest of her life.
Seeing Sha Nian-nian’s pure gaze, devoid of any affectionate feelings like those of other women, Ye Wenxin was relieved. She then treated Sha Nian-nian as a friend.
“But… that person… is strange.” Sha Nian-nian pointed to Huang Hanyan, who was walking third from the back.
Ye Wenxin had long noticed and understood that Huang Hanyan wanted to walk alongside her, but hesitated because of Sha Nian-nian’s presence.
“Maybe she’s just observing the surroundings,” Ye Wenxin replied with a smile. She heard Sha Nian-nian use her Qi to scan the surroundings and said, “N-no one.”
Ye Wenxin shook her head at this answer. “Look again, southwest behind that wild beast, and northeast behind that rock.”
Sha Nian-nian didn’t understand, but still checked those two directions carefully. She indeed sensed the presence of two individuals, but their aura was very faint, almost undetectable.
“Stick… with me.” Sha Nian-nian was delighted by this.
Ye Wenxin couldn’t help but mock, “Come on, Golden Core stage Tower Master, you can’t even kill that Elder Wu up in front.”
Sha Nian-nian pouted, but considering her own stuttering issue, she ultimately held back any retort and continued walking obediently.
The journey continued on. Due to Madam Yu’s physical condition, female disciples had to piggyback her down the mountain.
The group, including the elder, totaled nine people. Aside from Ye Wenxin, Huang Hanyan, and Sha Nian-nian, there was only one other female disciple left in the group.
Cultivators were not superhuman, and this female disciple’s cultivation level was not that high. She was already exhausted before they reached halfway down the mountain, and had to switch places with Huang Hanyan.
Seeing this, Elder Wu’s eyes shifted towards Madam Yu, and he suggested, “Why don’t I fly ahead with Madam Yu on my sword? At this rate, it will be dark soon.”
One of the disciples who knew Elder Wu rather well frowned, but Madam Yu immediately declined. “No need.”
It seemed she also saw through Elder Wu’s dubious intentions and then pointed towards Ye Wenxin, saying, “She is strong; why not let her continue carrying?”
Huang Hanyan, who was already prepared to carry Madam Yu, was shocked.
Looking at Ye Wenxin, she felt that Madam Yu’s suggestion was somewhat excessive. Ye Wenxin naturally had the lowest cultivation level among everyone, and had been at the sect for the shortest time.
Madam Yu’s proposal might seem like a sign of trust in Ye Wenxin. However, Ye Wenxin understood that Madam Yu was doing this to test her.
“But Mother, I want Sister Wenxin to carry me,” Qiao Ni protested, dissatisfied that her mother was once again taking Ye Wenxin away.
She finally had the chance to see Ye Wenxin, and had planned on waiting until she couldn’t bear it anymore before cutely asking Ye Wenxin to carry her.
But she didn’t expect her own mother to beat her to it.
Madam Yu felt somewhat helpless. She only did this out of worry that if Qiao Ni got tired, Qiao Ni would ask Ye Wenxin to carry her. So she wanted to deplete Ye Wenxin’s stamina, preventing her from getting close to her daughter.
Unfortunately, Qiao Ni didn’t understand at all how much of a scoundrel Ye Wenxin really was. But with so many people around, Madam Yu couldn’t openly speak ill of Ye Wenxin.
Instead, she continued to smile and said, “You see, your Sister Wenxin is really strong. When you’re tired, why don’t we let Sister Wenxin carry you too?”
Thus, Madam Yu had to adopt a negotiating tone, positioning herself in front of Ye Wenxin to avoid any chance of Ye Wenxin holding Qiao Ni.
Ye Wenxin looked at Madam Yu’s disdainful expression and couldn’t help but grin wryly. However, she helped Madam Yu by saying, “Yes, I’m really strong. Don’t you remember? Before, I even carried—”
Before Ye Wenxin could finish her sentence, she felt Madam Yu’s sharp gaze on her. Hastily, she pointed to the sky and continued, “I once carried a huge bird, ginormous! So, carrying you and your mother is no problem at all.”
Ye Wenxin laughed awkwardly. Madam Yu sighed with relief. She maintained her noblewoman demeanor and said, “Then, Miss Wenxin, please be so kind as to carry me on your back.”
Qiao Ni glanced at Madam Yu, then at Ye Wenxin, still looking unhappy.
Seeing this, Huang Hanyan stepped forward and added, “How about this sister carry you?”
This comment finally eased the tension slightly.
However, Qiao Ni looked at Huang Hanyan, then at the two ‘Ye Wenxin dolls’ in her arms, and stubbornly shook her head, saying, “No.”
The atmosphere became awkward once again. Ye Wenxin pretended not to notice and walked up to Madam Yu.
“Pardon me, Madam Yu.”
After saying this, she lifted Madam Yu up into her arms, without any intention of piggybacking her; holding someone was more physically taxing than piggbacking them, after all.
Startled, Madam Yu instinctively wrapped her arms around Ye Wenxin’s neck.
“Wow, Sister Wenxin is really amazing!”
Meanwhile, Qiao Ni looked at her mother with envy.
Ye Wenxin smiled gently at her, “Later, I’ll carry you like this too.”
