Rong Shi was also troubled.
Although Rong Shi couldn’t express the Earth idiom “it’s difficult for a clever wife to cook without rice,” he now felt a sense of helplessness where he couldn’t do anything.
Just as everyone went from excitement to instant silence, the four rescued people stared blankly at each other with a puzzled expression. They were completely detached from the entire event and couldn’t understand why everyone seemed disappointed. They could only cautiously observe everyone’s state, but the more they observed, the more questions filled their minds.
Finally, Meng asked, “What’s wrong with you guys?”
Lana sat beside Meng, her expression also filled with profound disappointment. She turned to Meng and shook her head, saying, “There’s no water, we can’t make soup.”
“Hmm?” Meng seemed to understand something yet seemed even more confused.
Fortunately, Lana had a good relationship with him. She lowered her voice and explained the whole story to Meng, so he understood what they had been busy with for half a day.
He couldn’t help but scratch his head, tremblingly saying, “If it’s drinking water, we brought some with us…”
Meng’s words seemed to miraculously dispel the fog in front of everyone, and they all looked up at him, each wearing an expression of disbelief.
Then they saw Meng, Nalita, Saro, and Flynn all open their backpacks and like performing magic, took out many things. When those things were laid out one by one, everyone’s eyes widened, and several people even opened their mouths wide, unable to say a word for a while.
The things laid out on the ground turned out to be various pottery, jars of all sizes from inside Su Ge’s camp, as well as the remaining plants, and most importantly, the large piece of pork that Su Ge had left in the water tank.
After many struggles, it was natural that not all the pottery stayed whole. About half broke, while the other half stayed intact. Among those that survived, two pots stood out: one big and one small. The big one held nearly half a jar of water, and the small one had the rest of the salt.
Looking at this pile of things, Rong Shi also felt quite shocked. “How did you manage to get all these things out…”
In this regard, it was really thanks to Saro and Flynn.
After Su Ge and the others left the camp, although Flynn didn’t have any specific instructions, out of obligation he went to Meng. Seeing him, Saro and Nalita returned shortly after. They exchanged nods and decided to stay in Li Ya’s camp to avoid any wild beasts at night.
However, just as it turned dark, it started to rain. At first, they found the rain peculiar, but when it started pouring heavily in a short time, they realized something was wrong.
After observing the accumulation of rainwater and its flow, Flynn accurately judged that they should move to higher ground. As a born businessman, Saro felt they should take some things from the camp.
After all, as a merchant, he always considered the worst-case scenario. He thought it wouldn’t be worth it if the rainwater damaged everything in the camp. So, the four of them rummaged through the camp and found that Su Ge had the most supplies. They packed everything they could from Su Ge’s camp into their backpacks before leaving.
It was because of their fussing around that they got stuck later on.
“You truly have foresight.” After hearing the four’s explanation of why they brought so many things from Su Ge’s camp, everyone genuinely admired Saro. His foresight as a businessman was truly incredible.
With clean drinking water, cooking ginger soup was no longer a problem. Soon, the thick ginger soup was ready, and everyone had a bowl.
The current situation was similar to when they first entered the cave. Back then, Su Ge had cooked a big pot of ginger soup and shared it with everyone, but they had avoided it like the plague. However, only a few hours had passed, and it seemed like history was repeating itself. Unfortunately, everyone’s mood was different this time.
They quietly looked at their bowls, the steaming hot ginger soup, and Su Ge, who lay pale by the campfire. Each person’s heart felt heavy, almost as if weighed down by lead.
Rong Shi half-embraced Su Ge, bringing the bowl of ginger soup to her lips, softly calling out to her, “Su Ge, take a sip of soup, just a sip.”
At this moment, Su Ge wasn’t feeling well. Besides feeling incredibly tired, the thing bothering her most was the changing temperatures she felt throughout her body. She was still aware, but her body just wouldn’t cooperate.
Hearing Rong Shi’s words, she desperately tried to comply by opening her mouth, but after several attempts, she couldn’t manage it. To Rong Shi, aside from her eyes flickering under her eyelids, she didn’t respond much to his efforts. However, even this slight response was better than none at all.
He decided to firmly grasp both sides of Su Ge’s jaw, exerting a slight force to pry her mouth open, and slowly poured the not-too-hot ginger soup into her mouth, one sip at a time.
Rong Shi had a strong learning ability. Although he didn’t get the measurement right at the beginning and often spilled some, after adjusting a few times, he quickly learned how much Su Ge could swallow without spilling.
When the ginger soup was drunk that night, not only Rong Shi, but even the aliens watching nearby felt sweaty.
Although Su Ge’s constitution was weaker compared to other aliens, her martial arts training from childhood and her decent recovery ability helped. As the bowl of ginger soup entered her stomach, she quickly felt the chill lingering in her body dissipate, replaced by a comforting warmth.
With this warmth, her depleted strength quickly began to replenish. Gradually, the emptiness of her true qi once again gathered. With her eyes closed, after a brief rest, Su Ge’s extreme fatigue was finally alleviated to a great extent. She struggled to blink her eyes open, but she finally managed to do so.
Almost in the instant Su Ge opened her eyes, Rong Shi had already noticed. He leaned closer, but didn’t dare to speak too loudly, as if he held a precious fragile treasure in his arms. He softly called out to her, lowering his voice slightly, “Su Ge, how do you feel?”
Just opened her eyes, Su Ge couldn’t see clearly. All she felt was a blurry haze in her field of vision, which gradually cleared after she blinked hard a few times. There were murmurs around her ears, sounding like whispers of concern.
Her pupils finally regained focus, and from the haze, she finally saw a figure.
With fair skin emitting a faint glow, silver hair, and purple eyes filled with worry, he gently pursed his lips and reached out to tidy Su Ge’s hair.
“Rong Shi.” Su Ge’s voice sounded dry and hoarse, as if it had been scorched in hell.
“I’m here. Are you feeling any better?” If Su Ge’s awakening had gradually extinguished the fiery turmoil in Rong Shi’s heart and finally settled it, then Su Ge’s hoarse voice made Rong Shi feel an indescribable sourness. He leaned closer to Su Ge, “You just drank a bowl of soup. Would you like some more?”
Although the ginger soup was too stimulating, its effects were remarkable. After everyone who had been soaked in the rain for hours had consumed it, they all broke out in a sweat, and even their originally cold limbs gradually warmed up.
After her body had regained some strength, Su Ge’s only feeling was hunger and cold. She had never felt the need to replenish her strength as she did now, even though she found the ginger soup very necessary.
After drinking another bowl of ginger soup, Su Ge finally felt alive again. She was supported by Rong Shi against the cave wall, which had been warmed up, making it the most comfortable place.
“Su Ge, how are you feeling now?” Sitting beside Su Ge, Zigmadar didn’t dare to get too close. At this moment, Su Ge looked pale and listless, as if she could disappear at any moment. Therefore, everyone spoke cautiously and carefully.
“Hungry.” Su Ge smiled. Perhaps after experiencing life and death, everyone’s relationships had become more harmonious. The subtle barriers that once existed among everyone seemed to have disappeared after such a life-threatening experience. It was as if Su Ge was now openly expressing her feelings without reservation.
Speaking of hunger, every alien felt the same, but looking at Su Ge’s current condition, no one could bring themselves to mention food.
After two or three seconds of silence, Flynn suddenly spoke to everyone, “How much nutrient solution do we have left? Let’s gather it together. Anyway, let’s deal with the current situation first.”
After having several meals prepared by Su Ge in a row, most of the aliens had almost forgotten about the nutrient solution. If Flynn hadn’t brought it up now, they probably wouldn’t have realized that they had been living on nutrient solutions all along.
Now, prompted by Flynn’s reminder, everyone suddenly realized. They were aliens, and they were living on nutrient solutions…
So, everyone began to rummage through their backpacks, emptying out the few remaining nutrient solutions they had.
The supplies were divided into three levels, and the nutrient solution inside also had three levels. However, because five were deducted by the organizers, the amount of nutrient solution each person had left was different. For example, those with third-level supply packs had run out of nutrient solution. Those with second-level packs had one or two left, while those with first-level packs still had three to four left.
In this way, they managed to gather around ten nutrient solution packs. Flynn handed these over to Rong Shi, who was somewhat surprised. As someone with only a third-level supply pack and having already given one pack to Su Ge, he naturally assumed he wouldn’t have any nutrient solution left, so he didn’t think he’d have any say in distributing these.
“You’re giving them to me?”
Flynn nodded. “In this situation, we need to unite more than ever. We need a leader, a captain. Rong Shi, you’re the best choice.”
Rong Shi looked at Flynn seriously for a while before responding, “You need to consider that if you give these to me, there’s little chance you’ll get your share.” He said this with a pointed implication. When they brought out the nutrient solution earlier, Rong Shi had noticed carefully. Flynn had the most left, a total of four packs. If Flynn kept them all for himself, he could last for at least eight to ten days. But if given to Rong Shi, the most he could have been one pack.
In this calculation, Flynn was actually at a disadvantage in this matter.
However, Flynn waved his hand nonchalantly. His gaze fell on Su Ge, his eyes showing a mix of complex emotions—gratitude, respect, and apology.
He smiled and said, “Now’s not the time to consider individual benefits. In this situation, none of us can survive alone. We’re a team, a whole. We need to help each other. If I hoard the nutrient solution now, not only would I look down on myself, but even you guys wouldn’t respect me.”
Su Ge had been sitting quietly on the side. Her body was beginning to warm up, and her sluggish reactions were starting to become more agile again. Flynn’s words and actions surprised her.
In her mind, Flynn had always been just a flat-faced figure, filled with various forms of racial discrimination and disdain towards herself. But when this false facade was stripped away, Su Ge suddenly realized that there was much more to Flynn. She couldn’t just stereotype him.
Rong Shi acted quickly, gathering the nutrient solution and distributing one to each person. When he turned to Su Ge, however, he handed over his own pack along with it. “Take it.”
Su Ge looked at the two packs in her hand and then glanced up at Rong Shi. “Why are you giving them all to me?”
“You need to replenish your energy more right now…” Rong Shi reached out, gently tucking Su Ge’s slightly messy hair behind her ear, a faint smile on his face.
“And what about you?” Su Ge tilted her head. Her once sluggish mind was now becoming active again after her body recovered. She looked at Rong Shi beside her and felt that there was something… uniquely gentle about him today.
Although Rong Shi usually treated people with a gentle demeanor, it was like wearing the most perfect mask, suitable for social interactions. However, today’s gentleness was different. But Su Ge couldn’t quite pinpoint what made it different.
She just faintly felt that Rong Shi seemed unusually cheerful today.
Su Ge handed the nutrient solution back to Rong Shi, but he refused, saying, “It’s okay.”
“Everyone should have one to carry.” Su Ge insisted.
“You need it more than I do right now. Besides, hunger isn’t a big deal for me,” Rong Shi replied calmly. It wasn’t a bluff; in the military, frequent exercise often involved going days without nutrient solution under extreme conditions.
However, Su Ge persisted in handing the nutrient solution back to Rong Shi. Despite her pale complexion, her smile was radiant and captivating. She said, “Trust me, I can handle it. So, you need to maintain your strength because who knows what might happen next. None of us can afford to be weak.”
Rong Shi was on the verge of declining once more, but Su Ge persisted, offering a reason that was both funny and touching. “Plus, I absolutely can’t stand the taste of nutrient solution. After the last time you gave it to me, I promised myself I’d never touch it again…”
With that, she opened the bottle and poured it into her mouth. Soon, she felt her energy replenishing. Even so, she shrugged, “It still tastes awful.”
Before tasting Su Ge’s cooking, such a statement would have offended everyone, but now, anyone who had experienced her culinary skills would wholeheartedly agree.
Despite its unappetizing taste, the technology developed by the aliens over the years was quite impressive. The nutrient solution’s ability to restore energy and refresh the mind far surpassed that of ordinary food.
Even though Su Ge had been feeling under the weather, after gulping down the bottle of nutrient solution, she felt revitalized, almost as if she could go outside and roll around without getting tired.
“What do we do now?” Su Ge’s recovery was undoubtedly the best news, but there was still a more challenging task ahead for all the aliens. Everyone looked at Su Ge, who had been revived, almost simultaneously, as if she were the beacon guiding them forward.
In the face of so many eager eyes, Su Ge, after sorting out his thoughts slightly, made an unexpected command to everyone: “Take off your clothes.”
The expressions of the aliens after hearing this command were all like this at the moment— (⊙_⊙)(⊙_⊙)
Even though moral standards vary from planet to planet, there’s one aspect where they’re quite similar: aside from fashion, clothes serve as a crucial way to hide things. Isn’t it considered inappropriate to undress in public?
Confronted with a group of puzzled expressions, Su Ge sighed and repeated, “Hurry, remove your outer garments and dry them. What’s going through your minds? Wearing drenched clothes will only make you ill. If we fall ill now, there’s no medicine to treat us. Aren’t you feeling uncomfortable in these wet clothes?”
Oh…
You didn’t say it cleary, and we all forgot. But now that you mention it, we do feel quite uncomfortable!
After understanding Su Ge’s meaning, all the aliens immediately began to take off their clothes with nimble movements. The speed was so fast, describing it as lightning wouldn’t be an exaggeration. Some even intended to take off their inner clothes after removing the outer ones. Su Ge, sitting by the bonfire, covered her face and turned away from them while extending her hand to stop them.
“Don’t take off the inner ones! The ones close to your body!”
This admonition was quite effective, successfully stopping several who were about to completely unleash themselves to nature. However, Amphit was still quite reluctant. He said, “We’re still wearing wet clothes then… ”
“Shut up!” This time it wasn’t just Su Ge; several women present all sprayed words of rebuke towards him.
Amphit immediately shrank his neck, not daring to utter another word.
Even quicker, different clothes were hung messily around the bonfire. Some couldn’t find space to hang them, so they had to hold them to dry. Everyone moved fast and got things done efficiently.
While everyone was drying clothes by the fire, Su Ge, wearing a thin tank top and close-fitting shorts, was squatting among the supplies brought out by Flynn and cleaning up.
Rong Shi was helping beside her.
The most important items left among their supplies were several large pottery pots and jars. With these containers, they could solve most of their problems. The most precious items left were the large piece of pork and various medicinal herbs Su Ge left in the camp.
Su Ge had planned to keep this pork until everyone returned to eat it. She stored it really well and noticed that things here don’t spoil quickly. After two days, the pork had only dried a bit from the wind and didn’t have any big problems, not even a smell.
Originally, Su Ge never thought she’d get to have this piece of pork again but meeting it in this way was unexpected. It truly made people sigh at the profound connection between them and this pig.
Apart from this piece of pork, the other medicinal herbs had already dried quite a bit, but now they were wet again after the rain. She feared they would be unusable if not used promptly.
After going through a big disaster, Su Ge didn’t worry about anything else. She selected different herbs to treat diarrhea, inflammation, and prevent colds, and then cooked them together. Everyone drank the potion.
In times like these, anything that can be eaten without causing harm is considered a good thing.
Someone was watching over the pots boiling medicinal herbs, Su Ge was sorting out the old herbs and plants, while Rong Shi was helping cut the pork according to Su Ge’s instructions. As for the rabbits and wild chickens they had caught this time, they were all hung up temporarily and couldn’t be eaten for now, to be saved for later needs. The other wild vegetables and herbs newly collected were being sorted and cleaned by four people: Yilan, Lana, Abing, and Nalita.
Apart from them, the other aliens were not idle either. They were divided into two groups to collect various types of wood outside the cave. After bringing them back, they needed to be dried by the bonfire before they could be used. In addition to this, as per Su Ge’s request, they started to look for small stones, fine sand, and such.
If all the people now were parts of a machine, then Rong Shi was probably the engine, making all the parts move, and Su Ge, who had recovered, was the steering wheel, letting everyone know what they should do.
Even as the rain outside remained frightening, inside the relatively small cave, life was being reconstructed. Everyone was occupied, engrossed in their new responsibilities, in a well-organized fashion.
And all of this had occurred in just over ten hours since the heavy rain of the previous night.
