Chapter 34: Entering the Space

Tang Wan wasn’t very familiar with the city, and there were many more people here than in the town.

When you’re in an unfamiliar place, finding a spot without people around is really not easy.

Tang Wan stepped out of the department store and asked someone where the nearest scrap station was. The person kindly pointed her in the right direction.

Tang Wan was very thoughtful—scrap stations usually have fewer people nearby, making it easier to find a place to put things into her space. Also, she planned to buy some books at the scrap station later.

It was now 1974, and if she remembered correctly, the college entrance exams would be restored in two years. At that time, books would be hard to come by.

Tang Wan’s plan was good, and she had a good sense of direction. Following the directions the person gave her, she walked in that direction, and the number of people on the road gradually decreased.

But as she walked, Tang Wan noticed something was off.

Although she wasn’t sensitive to people’s gazes, she was still quite alert to danger.

A few people had been following her since she left the scrap station. She had already turned several corners, but those people were still behind her.

Tang Wan observed two intersections carefully; two of the people were clearly choosing their turning directions based on her movements.

Considering the state of public security at that time, Tang Wan was sure she was being watched.

If it was just robbery, that would be one thing…

But in that era, women going missing was also quite common.

Tang Wan looked around at her surroundings. This area was clearly no longer residential.

There were mostly factories around, with walls on several sides, and not many people were moving about at this time.

After observing, Tang Wan knew it was impossible to go back now; the men were getting closer.

If she made any move to turn back, they would probably act.

Her mind raced as she scanned the environment. Ahead was a corner, which looked like a dead-end alley.

Tang Wan quickened her pace toward it.

Her quickening steps were obvious; the men behind exchanged glances and immediately sped up, even closing in on her.

Especially when Tang Wan turned into the dead-end alley, their faces showed clear delight.

When Tang Wan’s figure disappeared around the corner, the men raised their eyebrows at each other, wearing triumphant expressions.

Clearly, they were more familiar with the area and knew she was heading into a dead-end.

They quickly advanced to try to trap Tang Wan inside.

The man closest to the alley entrance ran ahead; the joy on his face froze instantly.

He then turned pale, looking back at the few men still trailing behind.

They clearly weren’t doing this for the first time.

Perhaps feeling everything was under control, the others lost their calm.

“Why, never seen such a pretty woman and got all excited?” one said roughly.

As he spoke, he came alongside the first man. The others took a few steps and joined them.

Then the four men looked at the empty dead-end alley and exchanged puzzled looks.

“W-What were we here for again?” stammered one man in a dull yellow suit.

“Where’s that woman?” another with a hoarse voice asked.

“I—I don’t know. There was no one here when I got here,” the first man said, his pale face drained of color.

“We were following a woman, right?” someone uncertainly asked.

“Such a beautiful woman surely isn’t human.”

“What nonsense, that’s superstition,” the hoarse voice snapped, but his tone still carried a hint of panic. “She must’ve jumped into one of the nearby factories.”

After he said this, the men looked at the factory walls, which were about three meters high. There was no way they could climb over them, no leverage points anywhere.

“What are you looking at? There’s no one here, let’s get out of here, quickly.”

The others shared the same thought—it was too strange.

The men exchanged glances once more and then ran away.

Meanwhile, Tang Wan had already placed the things she had just bought neatly on the shelves inside her space.

Entering the space was the best way to get rid of those people. The moment she turned into the alley to avoid their sight, she had already entered the space.

Once those men couldn’t find her, they would naturally leave.

Tang Wan’s plan was good, but the problem was the time flow inside the space was different from outside.

Half an hour inside the space was only a short while outside. Waiting idly was boring, so Tang Wan estimated that in about half an hour, those men would give up and leave, so she could stay inside for most of the day.

With this thought, Tang Wan dragged a wooden tub from the corner of the space, planning to soak in some spirit spring water.

She had long wanted to try this but had never stayed long enough inside the space.

With nothing else to do, she remembered this now.

The spirit spring water was living water. She filled several buckets with it and then filled the tub. It didn’t change in any way.

Worth mentioning, the spirit spring water was warm; otherwise, Tang Wan wouldn’t have soaked in it directly.

The comfort of the bath far exceeded Tang Wan’s expectations. Not only did it relieve the fatigue on her body, but the tension and panic from realizing she was being followed vanished the moment she stepped into the water.

Tang Wan sighed contentedly and buried herself in the water.

On her delicate pale skin hung sparkling droplets; it was hard to tell which was softer, the water or her silky smooth skin.

When she first entered the water, she was still thinking about the time to meet Qin Zheng at the department store after leaving the space.

But after soaking for a while, Tang Wan completely forgot about it and even comfortably fell asleep in the water.

The spirit spring water seemed magical. It stayed warm all the time inside the space. Tang Wan soaked in the warm water without knowing how long had passed before she woke up.

There was no day or night inside the space, so Tang Wan had no idea how long she had been in there.

After she got out of the tub, she used a towel she had bought earlier at the department store to dry herself.

As she dressed, Tang Wan roughly realized the benefits of soaking in the spirit spring water.

Her skin had clearly become more delicate and smooth. Even she couldn’t help but want to touch it more.

Her skin, originally glowing pale from the inside out, was now uniformly fair and smooth, even on places prone to pigmentation like her knees and elbows.

This bath had indeed been beneficial. Another biggest change was that Tang Wan clearly felt her body lightened, losing the fatigue and heaviness.

Tang Wan was now even more sure of the spirit spring water’s benefits.

While tidying up and putting on clothes inside, Tang Wan prepared to check the situation outside.

Outside, Qin Zheng was already frantically searching for her.
