Chapter 213 1/3
Li Qingzhi suspected that the person behind Lu Mingshan was likely Li Zhu. He wanted to see Li Zhu and know how his sister had been living all these years.
Judging by the current situation, it seemed his young niece had already passed away. He could only imagine the immense pain and suffering his sister must have endured…
As a father himself, Li Qingzhi understood that loving parents would rather suffer themselves than see their children in trouble.
Some people, however, always targeted the vulnerable.
“Taoist Lu, I know the person who hired you. Just take me to them,” Li Qingzhi reassured Lu Mingshan.
But Lu Mingshan was adamant, finally insisting, “There’s no one behind me!”
Li Qingzhi: “…”
As they were talking, He Yi arrived.
Upon seeing He Yi, Lu Mingshan tensed up. Li Qingzhi, however, immediately recognized him: “He Yi?”
The original Li family head had helped the He family get justice and brought those who harmed He Yi’s sister to justice. Since then, He Yi had often brought fruits and vegetables to their house.
Li Zhu, being a housewife, had little contact with He Yi, but the original Li Qingzhi, who loved to go out and handle various tasks, naturally knew him.
He Yi frequently worked odd jobs in the county, and the two would greet each other when they met in town.
Additionally, during the floods, when Li Qingzhi’s father organized laborers to help, He Yi had come to assist.
While Li Qingzhi recognized He Yi, He Yi did not recognize Li Qingzhi. Li Qingzhi calling out his name caught He Yi’s attention.
But Li Zhu had sent a message, instructing him to bring Li Qingzhi over…
He Yi had been keeping an eye on the plum appreciation event and hadn’t met with Li Zhu. He only knew Li Zhu wanted him to bring Li Qingzhi over, without knowing the reason. He said, “Mr. Li, my boss invites you over.”
“Lead the way,” Li Qingzhi immediately released Lu Mingshan.
This left Lu Mingshan stunned; he hadn’t expected Li Qingzhi to actually know the person who had hired him!
And they had even invited Li Qingzhi over!
But more pressing matters were at hand… Lu Mingshan hurried to catch up, anxiously asking He Yi, “Master He, what about my silver and my apprentice…?”
He Yi looked at Lu Mingshan.
His men, disguised as servants, had blended into the plum appreciation event, and thus had seen Lu Mingshan’s performance there.
The sudden whitening of one of Lu Mingshan’s eyebrows had unnerved him, and he scrutinized Lu Mingshan with a frown.
Lu Mingshan immediately put on a sycophantic smile.
He Yi, reassured by this, instructed his men, “Take him to his apprentice.”
He and Li Zhu hadn’t planned to kill Lu Mingshan. According to the plan, once Lu Mingshan completed his task, they would send him out of the capital.
But since He Yi had no time now, they would first lock up Lu Mingshan and his young apprentice together. One of He Yi’s men acknowledged the order and led Lu Mingshan away.
He Yi then led Li Qingzhi forward, asking him, “You know me?”
While investigating Fan Weiyan, He Yi had looked into Li Qingzhi.
Li Qingzhi was the top scholar from Jiang’an Province and had come to the capital with the Shen family’s fleet.
He Yi hadn’t interacted with Li Qingzhi recently, and considering the previous years… Since Li Qingzhi had been studying and taking exams in Jiang’an Province, he wouldn’t have come to the capital, nor could he have met He Yi.
So how did Li Qingzhi recognize him?
Could he be from Yuxian County?
“Are you taking me to see Li Zhu?” With no one else around, Li Qingzhi asked directly.
Now that Li Zhao had been cleared of all charges, even if Li Zhu’s identity was exposed, it wouldn’t matter much.
Fan Weiyan could brazenly strut around the capital!
Of course, it was best not to expose her. Otherwise, people might guess that Fan Weiyan’s recent troubles were orchestrated by Li Zhu. The Jin Prince and Prince Yan might also seek to cause trouble for Li Zhu.
“You’ll find out when you get there,” He Yi replied. He suspected that Li Qingzhi might be a relative of the Li family or a classmate of the eldest son of the Li family.
He had paid close attention to the Li family back then, but he remembered the second son, not the eldest son, and wasn’t familiar with the eldest son’s friends.
The eldest son was focused on his studies and rarely appeared before them, unlike the second son, who had been actively involved from the age of fourteen or fifteen, often seen running errands outside.
However, He Yi didn’t intend to reminisce with Li Qingzhi now. Li Qingzhi’s urgency to see Li Zhu made He Yi somewhat displeased.
What exactly was the relationship between this man and the Li family?
After instructing someone to find Li Qingzhi, Li Zhu continued conversing with Madam Qian.
Madam Qian had initially given an overview, but now she added details, such as their ongoing search for Li Zhu.
She also talked about Li Qingzhi’s recent successes.
Li Qingzhi had even cured Qian Fugui’s illness, and Qian Changsheng’s illness was also cured!
Li Zhu was happy to hear this, but she also felt something was amiss.
In just seven years, her brother had changed so much? He could even remember everything he saw?
Could a head injury really cause such a drastic change?
As Li Zhu pondered, there was a knock on the door, and He Yi’s voice sounded: “Miss, Li Qingzhi is here.”
Madam Qian exclaimed, “Let Ah Zhi in quickly!” Li Qingzhi must be thinking of his sister, and Li Zhu was certainly thinking of her brother!
The door opened, and Li Qingzhi entered with He Yi, who closed the door behind them.
Seeing Li Qingzhi, Madam Qian said joyfully, “Ah Zhi, your sister is fine!”
Li Qingzhi had already seen Li Zhu and knew she was fine. But given the current situation…
Li Zhu, who had been crying with red, swollen eyes, now looked at Li Qingzhi coldly: “Who are you?”
As she spoke, she signaled He Yi with her eyes.
Without hesitation, He Yi grabbed Li Qingzhi’s hand and twisted it behind his back.
While it would have been easy for Li Qingzhi to deal with He Yi, if he started fighting now, it would be hard to explain later.
So Li Qingzhi didn’t resist and allowed He Yi to “restrain” him. Then he smiled at Li Zhu and spoke in his original accent: “Sister, let me explain.”
Li Zhu was momentarily stunned by the familiar voice.
Li Qingzhi continued, “Aunt, could you step out? I need to speak with my sister.”
There were some things he didn’t want Madam Qian to know.
Moreover, with Madam Qian pregnant, it was better not to involve her.
Madam Qian looked confused, her eyes darting between Li Zhu and Li Qingzhi.
“Aunt, please step out. I need to talk to him,” Li Zhu said.
Only then did Madam Qian leave.
Once she was gone, Li Qingzhi said directly, “I made Lu Mingshan’s eyebrow turn white.”
Both Li Zhu and He Yi knew about Lu Mingshan’s one white eyebrow. Had Li Qingzhi done that? How?
Li Qingzhi explained, “Sister, I don’t know how it happened. After I was hit on the head and nearly died, I gained a special ability to change a person’s appearance.”
Had he just arrived in this world, Li Qingzhi wouldn’t have told anyone about this.
But now, he had fully accepted his identity.
Besides, it was impossible to use some abilities without those around him noticing.
His wife, Jin Xiaoye, couldn’t possibly be unaware of his peculiarities, but she trusted him and hadn’t questioned him.
Li Zhu, being his biological sister, could also be trusted.
