Ji Yunzhi appeared at the entrance of Hantu Group around the same time as yesterday.
Don’t ask why he was there—the answer was simple: he was waiting for his husband.
But today, no matter how long he waited, Ji Yunzhi didn’t catch a glimpse of Mo Xuchen.
The rain this season always came suddenly and violently.
In the blink of an eye, the downpour began, the raindrops hitting the ground like bursting fireworks.
Ji Yunzhi remained crouched in place, shielding his head with his hands, his long, thick lashes glistening with droplets.
He stared fixedly at the company’s entrance, hoping to see Mo Xuchen walk out.
If one listened closely, they could hear him murmuring under his breath: “Don’t let it thunder…”
“Please don’t let it thunder…”
Mo Xuchen had been swamped with work today and didn’t leave the office until past eleven.
Chen Qi carefully held an umbrella over him, ensuring he stayed dry.
After taking a few steps, Mo Xuchen paused when he spotted the small figure huddled in the rain.
Recognizing who it was, Chen Qi immediately tensed up, eyeing Ji Yunzhi warily, afraid he’d suddenly rush into Mo Xuchen’s arms like the night before.
Last night, he was just dirty—but today, he was both soaked and filthy…
If he dared to hug Mo Xuchen like this, Chen Qi was pretty sure he’d be packing his bags.
When Ji Yunzhi saw Mo Xuchen finally appeared, his eyes lit up. He took a couple of steps forward, his lips curving into a sweet smile.
He reached out to hug him but then glanced down at his own drenched clothes and withdrew his hands.
His voice was slightly hoarse as he whispered, “Husband…”
“I’m hungry… I want baozi (bun).”
Mo Xuchen: “…”
Calling him husband again…
And asking for baozi again…
Chen Qi: “…”
Just how hungry was this guy? Every time he opened his mouth, it was for food—and always baozi!
Mo Xuchen’s brows furrowed imperceptibly as he sidestepped Ji Yunzhi and strode toward the car.
He had too many responsibilities every day to spare time buying baozi for a stranger—especially one who kept calling his husband out of nowhere.
Letting Chen Qi give him food this morning had probably been a momentary lapse in judgment.
Chen Qi hurried after Mo Xuchen with the umbrella, glancing back cautiously several times.
Relieved to see Ji Yunzhi staying put, he relaxed slightly.
Inside the car, Mo Xuchen gazed through the window at Ji Yunzhi standing in the pouring rain, his expression unreadable.
Just as the car started moving, he averted his eyes.
But after driving barely a few meters, Chen Qi abruptly hit the brakes. Swallowing hard, he spoke up:
“President Mo… that person… collapsed…”
Without Mo Xuchen’s orders, Chen Qi didn’t dare act on his own. He wasn’t sure if they should intervene, so he could only report it.
Mo Xuchen looked up and saw Ji Yunzhi lying motionless in the rain. An inexplicable tightness gripped his chest.
Despite his usual reluctance to meddle in others’ affairs, his fingers twitched slightly before he finally commanded:
“Bring him into the car.”
“Yes, President Mo.”
Chen Qi got out of the car, and Mo Xuchen followed.
Chen Qi was taken aback when he saw Mo Xuchen step out, quickly rushing over to shield him with the umbrella.
Wait… Why is President Mo personally getting out???
Ji Yunzhi hadn’t chosen not to follow earlier—he simply didn’t have the strength to. He couldn’t move, not even a single step.
He figured he must have been so hungry that his vision blacked out, completely losing consciousness.
Mo Xuchen and Chen Qi carried Ji Yunzhi into the car together. Mo Xuchen took off his suit jacket and draped it over him.
Curled up in the back seat, Ji Yunzhi frowned uncomfortably, clutching the jacket tightly.
His body felt hot one moment and freezing the next.
Mo Xuchen took the towel Chen Qi handed him and calmly wiped away the rainwater.
Chen Qi roughly dried his own rain-dampened hair and asked, “President Mo, should we go straight back to Jinsé Bay or to the hospital?”
Mo Xuchen glanced at Ji Yunzhi in the back seat before lowering his gaze.
“Go back. Call Su Yuyan—”
“Never mind, just drive first.”
He had originally intended to have Chen Qi call Su Yuyan but ended up dialing the number himself.
…
When Su Yuyan arrived at Jinsé Bay, he rubbed his eyes in disbelief, shooting a questioning look at Chen Qi.
“What’s going on with Mo Xuchen tonight…? What kind of act is this?”
Who the hell is that person lying on the bed?
And why was Mo Xuchen personally taking care of him?
Chen Qi scratched his nose and forced a dry laugh. “President Mo probably…”
“…felt too sorry for him?”
He had originally tried to help, but just as he was about to change the stranger’s clothes, Mo Xuchen suddenly insisted on doing it himself…
At that moment, Chen Qi couldn’t help but wonder if his boss had been bewitched by something.
If he had any glutinous rice on hand, he might’ve considered throwing a handful at Mo Xuchen for good measure.
After cleaning Ji Yunzhi up and changing him into fresh pajamas, Mo Xuchen stood up from the bedside upon hearing Su Yuyan’s voice.
“He has a fever. Sorry to trouble you to come so late—please check on him.”
Su Yuyan stared at Mo Xuchen with a strange expression, his lips twitching as he walked toward the bed.
“Wow, no need to suddenly be so polite with me.”
When he got a good look at Ji Yunzhi’s face, he couldn’t help but comment, “Hey, who’s this?”
“Not bad-looking at all.”
Mo Xuchen raised a brow, silently agreeing—after wiping Ji Yunzhi’s face clean, he too had noticed how attractive he was.
Or rather, even when covered in dirt, the man’s striking features had been obvious.
“Don’t know.”
Su Yuyan: “…”
“You brought a stranger home without even knowing them?”
Since when was this Mo Xuchen’s style?!
Mo Xuchen wasn’t sure why he had softened either. He’d sworn not to meddle, yet in the end, he couldn’t help himself.
He found an excuse—
“He collapsed.”
Su Yuyan: “…”
“So you brought him home just because he collapsed?”
“Since when did you develop such kindness?”
Mo Xuchen shot him a sidelong glance. “Why do you ask so many questions?”
Su Yuyan smiled. “Fine, I’ll stop.”
After examining Ji Yunzhi and setting up an IV drip, his expression turned serious as he addressed Mo Xuchen:
“Aside from the fever, he has several injuries on his body—they look pretty serious.”
“His whole body seems to have suffered a strong impact. When you have time, take him to the hospital for a full check-up.”
