Chapter 12 – Shocked! This Man is Called Lu Tingxiao?
“Where do you live? I’ll pick you up tonight.”
“Number 88, second floor, Five-Star Guesthouse.”
“Got it!”
Xia Yuwei stood silently, and only after the man drove away did she turn to ask her sister, “Who is he?”
Xia Wanwan was momentarily speechless. She didn’t know either—they hadn’t even introduced themselves!
“Sis, I don’t know his name either!”
“You don’t know and you’re still going to dinner? What favor did he talk about? You better explain clearly.”
Reluctantly, Xia Wanwan recounted the entire blind date incident with Fatty Liu that day.
Xia Yuwei sighed, pinching her forehead. Hitting people—this was truly something her sister could do.
It was lucky he had helped, otherwise her sister might still be stuck at the police station right now.
Since they were going to visit him tonight, they had to show their gratitude. She grabbed her sister and headed to the department store.
Fine teas, fruits, and snacks—they bought a pile of things. No matter what, someone who helped you deserved thanks.
Their parents weren’t here, and as the elder sister, she had to observe proper manners.
Even though their parents were under suspicion and their background unclear, their father’s reputation in all of Beijing was still impressive.
As his daughters, they couldn’t disgrace the Xia family name!
Xia Wanwan obediently followed her sister, carrying the heavy bags without complaint, back to the guesthouse.
After eating, Xia Wanwan definitely wanted a nap, but Xia Yuwei couldn’t sleep. She tossed and turned between two suitcases, trying to coordinate their outfits for the afternoon dinner.
It had to be said: Xia Chengzhi really spoiled his daughters. Not only did they have the latest fashions year-round, but each season they got at least three sets of outfits. So anything pulled from their suitcases would be worth a month’s salary to ordinary people.
Finally, Xia Yuwei tired herself out and collapsed to nap with her sister.
By evening, there was a knock on the guesthouse door.
The two girls woke instantly. Too much had happened these past days, and they had been on edge.
Finally, they had a relaxing afternoon—so it was easy to oversleep.
Xia Yuwei asked aloud, “Who is it? What do you want?”
“Miss Xia, it’s me!”
Xia Wanwan groaned, rubbed her head, and slowly got up. “Wait a moment!” she said to the door.
The sisters hurriedly changed clothes inside the room.
After applying light makeup, Xia Yuwei clipped a small diamond butterfly hairpin onto her sister’s ear.
Seeing her sister dressed playfully and adorably, she nodded in satisfaction.
Actually, her sister was prettier than her, but she was best appreciated quietly—who knew if she’d ruin it the next second?
Even though they were both daughters of the same parents, their personalities were worlds apart. Xia Yuwei was calm; Xia Wanwan was lively. She had lost count of how many times she had been beaten as a child.
“All done, sis. I’m satisfied like this.”
It’s just a dinner—why all the fuss? Feels like she was going on a blind date.
“Let’s go.”
Xia Wanwan couldn’t wait and opened the door. Outside, Lu Tingxiao stood straight, surprised by the sudden opening.
Their eyes met, and Lu Tingxiao’s ears flushed red. How could a little sprucing up make her look so beautiful?
Xia Yuwei, following behind, sensed a subtle tension in the air. Her instincts told her these two would definitely have sparks.
“Since we’re ready, let’s go!”
“My sister said you shouldn’t come empty-handed for your first visit, so we bought these gifts. You carry them—my hands are already red.”
Xia Wanwan shoved the heavy bag toward him and waved her slender hands in front of him.
Her fingers were indeed red, but the main point was clear: a gentleman should notice and help carry a woman’s things.
To Lu Tingxiao, the tone carried a little coquettish charm, and his face felt even hotter.
He silently hugged the items and strode out first.
Once in the car, Xia Wanwan realized something. “Hey, I don’t even know your name. I’m Xia Wanwan, and this is my sister, Xia Yuwei. I can’t just call you ‘hey you,’ right?”
“Lu Tingxiao.”
“Lu Tingxiao?”
Xia Wanwan’s voice rose slightly. So his name was Lu Tingxiao—the same one the white-lotus woman had married in her past life? The man the white-lotus woman sought in this life?
“???”
Both Lu Tingxiao and Xia Yuwei instinctively looked at Xia Wanwan, confused by her reaction.
Realizing something was off, Xia Wanwan quickly forced a smile and fell silent.
She couldn’t understand it—how could such a handsome man fall for that airhead?
No matter—this had nothing to do with her. She only had to attend the meal. After that, paths would diverge forever.
As the surroundings grew quieter, Xia Wanwan started to wonder where this big shot’s house could be.
Was this some kind of kidnapping?
But probably not.
When the car entered a military compound, Xia Wanwan saw the bright, bold letters and glanced sideways at the man. No wonder he carried himself differently—he was a soldier.
Who had she gotten involved with upon arriving?
The car finally stopped at a two-story villa.
Xia Wanwan knew the high-ranking figures here weren’t materialistic. Their homes weren’t fancy, but living in a military compound still signaled importance.
Just as she steadied herself, the little boy from before nearly leapt into her arms. Two days apart, and this clean, cute child had turned from a filthy little beggar? She could hardly reconcile the image.
How could one compare? How could the change be so drastic?
“Sis, sis, you finally came!”
“Little guy, what’s your name?”
“I’m Qingzhu. I’m five years old!”
“Good boy. Thank you for inviting your sister to dinner!” Xia Wanwan reached out, stroking his fluffy head as gently as she had that day.
“Hehe!”
“All the guests are here. How can you stand at the door? Hurry up and bring them in!” Lu Feihu yelled at his grandson, frustrated.
This was the first time his grandson had brought girls home. How could he not be excited?
And it was two girls at once!
He had to scold more to keep them disciplined—after lunch, scolded; now, dinner, bringing back two girls. Progress!
Lu Tingxiao had a black line across his forehead. Why was his grandfather so worked up? They were just coming for dinner—not a granddaughter-in-law… what a false alarm!
