Chapter 22 – Men Are Like Ten-Year-Old Vinegar, So Sour!

“Comrade Dang, your money’s gone too?”

Wang Dongmei completely broke down. No one else on the train had lost money—only these two. It was hard not to suspect them, and they immediately wanted to call the train attendant.

The train attendant briefly questioned the two and then left, since losing money on trains was far too common.

But Wang Dongmei was dumbfounded. Her suspicions had offended the people behind them. They immediately told her to sit according to her assigned seat and sent the two of them back.

Xia Wanwan looked at the two, cowering like lost dogs, and couldn’t help but laugh.

She really couldn’t hold it in—riding a train and not keeping valuables safe? Did these people bring brains at all, or just big mouths?

“You dare laugh? How can you be so heartless?”

Wang Dongmei tearfully accused Xia Wanwan. She was already miserable, and now she was being mocked.

Xia Wanwan straightened up and, putting on a serious tone, said, “Comrade Dang, thanks for taking care of me on this trip. I brought a lot of money—when we reach the destination, I’ll take you out for a meal.”

Li Dachui couldn’t help but burst out laughing. The girl had really learned well!

“You told everyone you brought a lot of money, so it’s no wonder someone targeted you tonight.”

People this foolish were rare indeed.

A small ripple of laughter spread around…

Wang Dongmei nearly wanted to crawl under her seat from embarrassment… but there was nothing she could do.

Finally, Huo Banyan stood up, squeezed over to Xia Yuwei’s side, and cleared some space.

After all, it was their assigned seats opposite them. You couldn’t make them stand the whole trip.

Those two were bound to stir up trouble; to avoid arguments, they should just sit down.

Li Dachui was speechless. Were these people really that dumb?

“Sis, I’m going to get some water. You coming?”

“Yes!” Xia Wanwan rolled her eyes, picked up the hot water jar, and followed. Perfect timing to wash her face with warm water. Afterward, they could eat breakfast.

Huo Banyan’s stomach growled, but she restrained herself. She could only take a bowl and get some hot water. Even if she didn’t eat, drinking something warm was fine.

Xia Yuwei sat leisurely, watching. If no one kept an eye on things, anything could disappear. Wang Dongmei continued crying, and Dang Guoan felt uneasy.

Money really was essential—one cent could defeat a hero.

He could only curse the thief in his heart, planning to write home for money once his parents got paid next month.

Xia Yuwei wasn’t overly generous either. Her money had a purpose, and she wasn’t going to give it away. As the saying goes, “wealth shouldn’t be flaunted.” Who wasn’t poor these days? The two sisters were also quite poor.

“Big sister, where’s Wanwan?”

Hearing the voice, Xia Yuwei froze. That voice sounded so familiar. She turned and saw someone approaching with the little one.

Her eyes lit up in surprise. She quickly stood and said to the man opposite, “Ah, you’re on this train too?”

“Yes!”

“Big sister, where’s Wanwan? I didn’t see her last night when I fell asleep.” Qingzhu looked around, puzzled, but couldn’t find the person he wanted to see.

“Your sister Wanwan went to get water. She’ll be back soon. Are you hungry?” Xia Yuwei gently pulled Qingzhu into her arms, speaking warmly.

Before Xia Wanwan and Li Dachui could return, Qingzhu had already spotted the tall figure from afar, and his heart skipped a beat. Why was he here so early in the morning?

“Wanwan!”

The little one ran straight over. Xia Wanwan quickly lifted the water jar to the side—otherwise it could have burned him.

“Qingzhu, careful, it’s hot!”

Next moment, the jar was snatched from her hands.

Xia Yuwei watched, smiling. She knew this wouldn’t go wrong—her sister’s happiness was about to begin.

It seemed her sister’s approach was right; she shouldn’t marry in the city. Look—her fate line had already appeared!

As long as her sister was happy, she no longer sought romance for herself. Perhaps she didn’t deserve love; her place was to be there for her parents.

Xia Wanwan glanced at Lu Tingxiao, then gently patted the little one’s head and asked, “Qingzhu, you’re awake. Have you eaten?”

“No, I want to see sister.”

Qingzhu’s face was full of joy. He really liked his sister—being with her felt comfortable and safe.

“Come on, let’s go eat together. Sister brought lots of delicious food!”

“Mm-hmm!”

Lu Tingxiao stood silently, watching coldly. Li Dachui, who had returned with them, looked awkward. What was he doing wrong?

Xia Yuwei quickly took eggs, peach pastries, almond cookies, egg cakes, jujube cakes from her pocket.

The surrounding people stared enviously. Huo Banyan especially felt her stomach twist in hunger—she was starving!

Xia Wanwan took malted milk powder from her bag, poured it into the water jar—filling it completely. Then she divided it. She and her sister shared one bowl, Qingzhu and Lu Tingxiao shared another.

Little Qingzhu’s eyes sparkled. Big brother brought things too, but not this much delicious food.

He eagerly took the almond cookies and ate small bites, his face full of happiness.

“Try this jujube cake. It’s so delicious, soft, chewy, and sweet.” Xia Wanwan handed a piece to Lu Tingxiao.

Lu Tingxiao looked at the cake in his hand. He didn’t usually like sweets, but he didn’t say no and bit into it.

He had expected it to be overly sweet, but instead it had a faint red date fragrance—light and delicious!

Satisfied seeing him eat, Xia Wanwan invited Li Dachui and Huo Banyan to join. Xia Yuwei also noticed the girl next to her hadn’t eaten anything yesterday.

Just two eggs, barely costing anything, she handed them to Huo Banyan. “Eat quickly. There are plenty of eggs. Not eating would be wasteful!”

Huo Banyan reached for money, but Xia Yuwei blocked her. “No need. This isn’t much. Just eat!”

“Li Da-ge, take whichever you like!”

Xia Wanwan enthusiastically offered the big guy food. Lu Tingxiao, however, felt uncomfortable watching.

Just as the big fool reached for the jujube cakes, Lu Tingxiao swiftly grabbed the bag…

Li Dachui’s hand froze mid-air!

Xia Wanwan was stunned!

Xia Yuwei smiled brightly.

She loved this atmosphere. What should she do?
