Chapter 14 Conflicts Intensify
Immediately, she saw Chen Yan fall flat on the ground, screaming in pain. Slowly, she got up, kicked the threshold in frustration, and said, “Damn this threshold! So high, it made me fall.” Limping, she left the courtyard, glancing back with a fierce glare at Lin Anran.
Lin Anran covered her mouth, giggling uncontrollably. “Serves you right this time! Look at you, so full of yourself. If you can get Gao Ershan to divorce me, I’d have to thank you.” Laughing so hard she bent forward and backward, she felt a sense of vindication seeing Chen Yan humbled.
Chen Yan, unaware, didn’t notice someone had appeared behind her. Startled, she hurriedly went inside, closed the main door, and bolted it, angrily looking at Leng Feng. “Why are you in the courtyard? Go back immediately,” she scolded.
Leng Feng looked at her anxious expression and gently embraced her from behind. “I just wanted to make sure no one bullies you.”
Lin Anran saw the tenderness in his eyes. Standing there at 1.9 meters tall, with his handsome face resembling a celestial being—similar yet not quite like Director Xiao Feng—she felt slightly overwhelmed. She tried to struggle free but couldn’t, so she relaxed and let him hold her. For the first time in a long while, she felt a sense of safety and comfort, savoring the embrace.
Meanwhile, Chen Yan, limping, returned home. The more she thought about it, the angrier she got—losing to a fool was intolerable. She limped back toward Gao Ershan’s house, intending to knock on the door and confront Lin Anran. As she approached, she glimpsed a tall shadow. Trusting her instincts, she realized this wasn’t Lin Anran—the figure was too tall. She crouched at the door crack, watching silently, seeing them embrace. Shocked, she covered her mouth, afraid to make a sound. She never expected Lin Anran to secretly meet a man, claiming she could make Gao Ershan divorce her. This was explosive news. Chen Yan thought she could inform Gao Ershan and catch them in the act, solving two problems at once.
Lin Anran, lost in happiness, suddenly heard the main door squeak. Alert, she recognized Chen Yan and panicked. Turning to Leng Feng, she said, “It’s not safe for you to stay here… you…”
Leng Feng found her nervousness adorable. Carrying her in a bridal-style lift, he moved toward the main house. Startled, Lin Anran flailed, patting his strong shoulders. “Leng Feng, put me down!”
In the main room, he gently set her down, watching her anxious expression with amusement. Holding her playful fists, he saw it as a flirtatious couple’s game. Lin Anran, angry, said, “We shouldn’t stay here… look at you…”
Before she could finish, he kissed her suddenly, silencing her. Unable to break free, she gave in, secretly savoring the moment. Just as Lin Anran was immersed in the sensation, he pulled back and spoke sincerely, “I’m leaving soon, and I can’t bear to let you go. Divorce that useless man, and I’ll marry you.”
Hearing him, Lin Anran felt secretly delighted. Yet she hesitated—could she really trust him based on just a single piece of identification? If he deceived her, what would happen? She reviewed the details of her life, finding no reason not to trust him.
Leng Feng gazed at Lin Anran, his eyes full of love. He was hopelessly devoted to her, caring nothing that she was a divorcee. All that mattered was being with her. Standing there, he longed to hold her close wherever he went. Suddenly, he recalled the saying that a woman is a rib of a man—true happiness comes from closeness. He truly wished to take her wherever he went.
Meanwhile, Chen Yan hurriedly fled toward Ershan’s shop on the street. Out of breath, she exclaimed, “Ershan! Hurry back! Your wife is holding a man in your house!”
Gao Ershan laughed dismissively. “That fat, clumsy woman? Who would like her? Nobody would believe that.” He was still fixated on Lin Anran, the disheveled woman from before, and couldn’t imagine her doing such a thing.
Chen Yan, seeing his disbelief, panicked and sweat poured down her face. “Ershan, I swear I saw it! They were embracing in your courtyard! Maybe they’re even in bed together right now!”
At once, Gao Ershan’s smile froze. His mind raced, replaying scenes from the past few days—her nervousness, keeping him from her room. Realization struck. He slammed his fist on the counter, smashing the glass, blood gushing from his hand.
Chen Yan jumped back in shock. “Your hand… it’s bleeding!”
Gao Ershan ignored the pain in his hand and shouted at Chen Yan, “Let’s go! If I don’t beat that woman to a pulp, I’m not Gao!” With that, he slammed the shop door shut with fierce determination and sprinted down the alley toward home.
Chen Yan struggled to keep up, panting heavily. “Ershan, slow down! Wait for me! Wait!”
Gao Ershan paid her no attention, running at full speed, completely ignoring Lin Anran left behind. In no time, he arrived at home and saw the tightly closed, bolted door. He immediately suspected that Lin Anran was hiding something—why else would the door be so firmly shut in broad daylight? Furious, he stomped on the door and yelled, “Lin Anran, you damn woman! Open this door right now, or I’ll make you pay!”
Lin Anran realized it was Chen Yan who had tattled, but she hadn’t expected them to arrive so quickly. Panicking, she glanced around the room, wondering where to hide Leng Feng. She quickly tidied the bed.
Leng Feng, seeing her nervousness, smiled reassuringly. “It’s okay.”
Lin Anran, flustered, snapped, “Hurry up! Hide quickly, or I swear I’ll kill you myself!”
Leng Feng replied calmly, “Don’t worry. Trust me. You go open the door.”
Seeing the determination in his eyes, Lin Anran took a deep breath and stepped out of the main room. Leng Feng glanced at the ceiling beams and noticed two supporting pillars. A plan formed in his mind.
After all, he was a special forces soldier, trained to perfection. He wasn’t about to let some meddler expose him or trap him—even seriously injured, he would handle this. With a burst of agility, he leaped up, grabbed the pillars, and climbed onto them, lying horizontally across the two parallel pillars that were close together.
He found it amusing. Here he was—a battle-hardened war god—humbling himself to crawl along the ceiling for a woman. If his comrades saw this, they would surely laugh themselves silly. Worse, they would probably joke that the mighty war god had become the secret lover of a married woman. Thinking of this, a small smile curved his lips.
Meanwhile, Lin Anran collected herself, listening to the furious stomping and shouting outside. Her heart raced, but she thought, “If it comes down to it, I’ll just reveal everything. Divorce—let’s see what he can do.”
With that resolve, she removed the bolt and calmly opened the door.
