Chapter 251: Reaching for the Moon (First Update)
Ye Wenxin, realizing Qiao Ni’s forcefulness, sighed tiredly. “Let me guess, your mother didn’t teach you this move either?”
Qiao Ni became immensely smug. Ye Wenxin stood there motionlessly, watching as Qiao Ni’s lips leaned closer, attempting to kiss her.
Ye Wenxin pressed Qiao Ni’s head away, and pushed her off again. “You’re too young to be kissing me, you brat!”
Qiao Ni was even more dissatisfied. “You’re only fourteen, and you’re calling me a brat? You’re just a little taller than me.”
Ye Wenxin felt slightly depressed by this, but she couldn’t exactly tell Qiao Ni her real age. Qiao Ni, seeing Ye Wenxin just standing there defenselessly, took this opportunity to immediately jump up and attack Ye Wenxin like a starving wolf.
Ye Wenxi lightly sidestepped. In the end, that kiss didn’t land on her lips, but on her cheek instead. While Ye Wenxin was speechless, Qiao Ni ran swiftly away after her success.
“Why’re you running off so fast? It’s not like I can beat you.” Although Ye Wenxin always thought she was the victim, Qiao Ni’s reaction showed otherwise.
At this moment, that familiar gaze fell on Ye Wenxin again. Ye Wenxin felt a chill on her back as someone approached. Before she could turn her head, she heard that distinctive voice.
“I wonder, who is Miss Wenxin going to beat?” Madam Yu’s voice drifted over, carrying her unique gentle emphasis. She sounded so pleasant, yet Ye Wenxin couldn’t help an unconscious shudder.
For some reason, even though she clearly hadn’t done anything, facing Madam Yu always made her feel like she was a perpetrator.
“It’s nothing. I just think the sky is not cooperating today. Look at those dark clouds covering the moon; such a pity.” Ye Wenxin pointed at the night sky. Due to the thick clouds, today’s weather was truly dismal.
Madam Yu also stared up at the sky, saying, “Oh, does Miss Wenxin intend to beat the sky, then?”
“Hehehe, it’s so high up; how could I?” Ye Wenxin replied modestly. Indeed, she couldn’t manage it now, but if she ascended, maybe she could be a heavenly being capable of beating the heavens.
After rounding it up a bit, Ye Wenxin felt she could indeed achieve this goal.
Madam Yu smiled softly and said with a hint of ridicule, “Oh, since Miss Wenxin knows the sky is unattainable, then do your duties properly; don’t keep thinking about such foolish dreams.”
These words went beyond blatant. They only needed to walk for one day tomorrow to reach Green Isle Manor. That would also be the time Ye Wenxin said goodbye to Madam Yu.
The reason Madam Yu had been watching so closely, was because she feared Ye Wenxin would take advantage of Qiao Ni’s childish ignorance to do everything she sought out to do.
Just now, she also vaguely glimpsed Qiao Ni and Ye Wenxin hugging. When she rushed over to check, Ye Wenxin was alone. Yet, she knew Qiao Ni had hid herself.
“Of course, I have my feet firmly planted on the ground, and I’m not the fondest of dreaming,” replied Ye Wenxin with a grin.
Of all things in the world, emotional debts were the hardest to repay. She was unwilling to establish a connection with Green Isle Manor in this way.
With this said, Ye Wenxin turned to leave, intending to see what Huang Hanyan was up to, when Madam Yu asked, “I wonder if Miss Wenxin would be willing to send me back.”
“Let’s leave this pleasant task to those senior brothers. I wouldn’t dare to reach for the moon and disturb Madam Yu.” Ye Wenxin shook her head in refusal, feeling there was something fishy about Madam Yu’s invitation.
Could Madam Yu be planning to put herself on the line and seduce Ye Wenxin, so Qiao Ni could finally see her for what she truly was—a scumbag?
Ye Wenxin grew more concerned the more she thought about it. She was supposed to be executing her plan tonight, she must not let Madam Yu overtake her.
She did her utmost to shirk it off, only to feel that hand clutching her clothes.
“Please.” Madam Yu’s tone softened.
Ye Wenxin couldn’t cover up her surprise. She turned to look, and saw a bit of unease on Madam Yu’s face, as if she were dreading something.
However, to avoid exacerbating Madam Yu’s hatred towards her, Ye Wenxin didn’t reveal she was using her to kill Elder Wu.
Looking at her now, Ye Wenxin thought simply that the frail Madam Yu was truly afraid. After all, the courtyard of this relay station1 looked extremely luxurious, yet also ominous.
“Very well, I will send Madam Yu just to the door,” agreed Ye Wenxin. She held a lantern crafted from flame stone, and led Madam Yu down the path.
Madam Yu followed behind her without a word, but Ye Wenxin found it strange that the Green Isle Manor guards were no longer nearby. She wondered if Madam Yu had intentionally ordered them to withdraw, or if Qiao Ni had done something.
Noticing Ye Wenxin’s suspicion, Madam Yu took the initiative to explain, “I dismissed the guards.”
Inwardly, Ye Wenxin couldn’t hold back her astonishment, sensing that Madam Yu’s only asset now was her beauty.
“Are you thinking I’m putting myself in danger to seduce you, and uncover your true self for Ni Ni to see?” With just one look at her expression, Madam Yu figured out what Ye Wenxin was thinking.
Ye Wenxin felt quite embarrassed. Madam Yu continued, “There are three types of people I hate the most.”
Seeing Madam Yu open up a topic, Ye Wenxin obliged. “Um, which three types?”
Madam Yu replied flatly, “Those who are unfaithful, unrighteous, and unfilial.”
Ye Wenxin sighed with relief. It seemed like those things had nothing to do with her. Madam Yu’s expression became even more complicated. “Don’t be relieved. I’m talking about you.”
Ye Wenxin was dumbfounded. She couldn’t help feeling that Madam Yu harbored a deep prejudice against her.
“Madam, did you hear some rumors about me?”
“Do you think I need rumors? I merely asked my subordinates to investigate at the Azure Wings Sect. Lo and behold, what I received was a report full of your misdeeds,” answered Madam Yu, and Ye Wenxin smiled wryly.
Ever since entering the Azure Wings Sect, she had been constantly involved in scandals.
First, there was her ambiguous relationship with Ling Jue, her experimenting the Soul Suppressing Eighteen Needles on people, and then the establishment of the Cozy Gang; there was no telling how these things were being circulated outside.
“What you hear may not be true.”
This was the only answer Ye Wenxin could give. Yet on second thought, she realized it was actually all true, and felt that the misunderstanding was not misplaced.
“But you even privately brought a Dao companion with you down the mountain,” Madam retorted.
Ye Wenxin also recalled how she had relied on Jin Xiaoqin to do whatever she pleased in order to help Sha Nian-nian escape from the Azure Wings Sect.
But it wouldn’t be accurate to call Sha Nian-nian her Dao companion.
“Hehehe, I did privately bring someone, but she wasn’t my Dao companion,” Ye Wenxin clarified.
Madam Yu’s face hardened, and she said agitatedly, “You don’t even call her your Dao companion. Is it because she’s merely a one-night stand, so you don’t count it as a relationship?”
