Chapter 252: I Fell (Second Update)
Her speech tone changed, and she appeared indignant. Ye Wenxin didn’t know if what she said touched on a nerve, causing Madam Yu to flip out.
Ye Wenxin couldn’t help thinking Madam Yu was overly sensitive. As she was about to say she didn’t mean it like that, something happened to Madam Yu.
“Madam Yu, are you alright?” Ye Wenxin approached with concern, but Madam Yu instinctively avoided her, making no effort to conceal her loathing for Ye Wenxin.
“I’m fine, just—” Madam Yu couldn’t hold back and started coughing again. It hadn’t even been two days since Ye Wenxin’s treatment, yet her health was already beginning to deteriorate again.
“Then let me check your pulse for a moment.” Ye Wenxin was helpless, but Madam Yu, still refusing her touch, quickly walked ahead for several paces.
Ye Wenxin wanted to follow her. However, just as she stepped up, the black and red skeleton manifested again, as if silently warning her.
Ye Wenxin was stunned. Madam Yu’s aura had grown so powerful that she could see it without focusing.
Ye Wenxin didn’t understand the source of Madam Yu’s resentment, but she was still worried Madam Yu might collapse again, so she kept a ten-meter distance while following her.
“Madam, Qiao Ni doesn’t actually like me. It’s just a momentary attraction. Once I leave, she’ll naturally return to how she was before we met.”
Ye Wenxin recalled the harm caused by her peach blossom luck. It was more destructive than the Iceborn Constitution. However, this peach blossom luck had a limited range.
With time, its effects would automatically wear off, and so would the affected person’s love.
But explaining this was too troublesome, so Ye Wenxin could only summarize the reason for Qiao Ni’s temporary crush in this way.
“Do you know what she said to me?” Madam Yu was holding a handkerchief, coughing a few more times into it. Her expression when she looked at Ye Wenxin brimmed with resentment.
Ye Wenxin shook her head, and Madam Yu’s expression became more complex.
“She wanted me to lock you up at Green Isle Manor, so you could never leave,” Madam Yu gave this kind of answer, her eyes showing a bit of gloomy coldness. As she spoke, she gently pressed on the stone next to her.
Ye Wenxin felt the ground shaking beneath her feet. The next second, it quickly opened up, revealing what truly lay beneath. At a closer look, it turned out to be a pitfall.
Ye Wenxin was baffled. She could sense Madam Yu’s intense murderous intent, and was aware there was no one else around. However, she absolutely didn’t anticipate that Madam Yu would be brave enough to be alone with her, just to make her relax her guard and then capture her.
Ye Wenxin fell into the pit. It was about twenty meters deep, with seals to restrict cultivation, and the walls had been smeared with grease. Looking around, there were several skeletons with clothes on.
Judging from their state, they had probably fallen into this pit too, and were just left here to die.
But the cultivation-restricting seals were only effective against those below Nascent Soul stage, and they naturally couldn’t keep Ye Wenxin in at all.
She wasn’t in any hurry to leave, though. She waited to see if Madam Yu still had anything else up her sleeve, then saw an exquisite figure appear above.
That figure coughed into her handkerchief, her pale face turning grimmer. “Just stay down there. I will cover for where you’ve gone.”
After saying this, Madam Yu turned around and left. Ye Wenxin watched as the trap door slid shut, shrouding the pit in darkness once more.
Ye Wenxin was rendered further speechless, yet was still in no rush to get out.
She napped there for a quarter of an hour. Once she confirmed there was no movement around her, only then did she release the seal on her cultivation and climb out of the pit.
After a careful inspection, Ye Wenxin suddenly discovered there were various mechanisms all around this garden, with traces of Qimen Dunjia1 on them.
“I truly underestimated you.” Ye Wenxin found this very intriguing, but didn’t dare kill herself so easily by touching the other mechanisms.
She exited the gate, intending to go find Huang Hanyan and carry out their plan. Suddenly, she heard a shriek.
It came from Qiao Ni. She was calling out desperately, as if she were in trouble.
Ye Wenxin silently praised Qiao Ni for her splendid acting skills, but the next second, she remembered that Madam Yu had specifically sent away the guards to imprison her in this relay station.
In other words, if the hidden Sha Nian-nian fed Elder Wu the Spring Pill, something disastrous would unfold.
This turn of events was completely beyond her expectations. Ye Wenxin didn’t care that she wasn’t supposed to come out right now, and hastily headed towards the source of the shriek.
As expected, Madam Yu and Qiao Ni were in a predicament.
Huang Hanyan and Sha Nian-nian were knocked to the ground, looking seriously injured. The other disciples who came after hearing the commotion were also struggling.
Despite their greater numbers, they were no match for a Nascent Soul stage elder.
“Hehehe, all of you are mine!” Elder Wu laughed sinisterly. Judging by his gaze, it seemed he intended to leave no loose ends, by killing everyone present.
“Elder Wu, please show some honor!” Madam Yu was the calmest of them all. It looked like she wanted to draw Elder Wu to that pitfall, yet, she was worried that doing so would cause tragedy to befall Ye Wenxin, who was inside.
Even if her hatred outweighed the debt she owed Ye Wenxin, Madam Yu was unwilling to let her die in such a way.
However, their current situation seemed already beyond saving. Madam Yu hugged Qiao Ni beside her, her eyes carrying a hint of despair.
But surprisingly, Qiao Ni showed no fear. Instead, she faced Elder Wu and said, “You will regret this, you old lecher.”
“Will I!? Hehehe, if you want to blame someone, blame yourselves, for dismissing your only Nascent Soul guard. Hehehe, as long as I kill you all, no one will know about tonight.” Elder Wu laughed even more ominously, as if long accustomed to committing despicable acts.
The women trembled upon hearing this, while the men ground their teeth in frustration, hating themselves for not having adequate cultivation. At this point, they could only resign themselves to be trampled upon.
Ye Wenxin also frowned slightly as she listened. The atmosphere in the immortal sect really was like that of the demon sect, with endless pests that seemed to have rotted it from the roots.
She wanted to step out, but knowing that Madam Yu had her confined, it didn’t seem right to use her own face.
But which face should she choose to appear with?
Ye Meijing and Ye Liangchen appearing together would be too conspicuous. If the people of the Cangyu Sect had seen both of her faces, a sudden display of her power would draw attention back to Ye Wenxin.
If she killed Elder Wu, she might get implicated.
And if there was an identity under which killing brought the least repercussions, it would naturally be Demon Lord Gu Qingcheng. The sad truth, which she hated to admit, was that she could only use Flower Burial.
