“Maybe we should let him…”
“No, you don’t want to.” One of the Omegas covered the class monitor’s mouth, then discussed something in hushed tones with the other students, glancing at Lu Zailin from time to time. Their excitement and eagerness were evident.
For a moment, Lu Zailin wondered if he had made the wrong choice, sensing a bad omen.
An Omega named Xiaoyi, blushing, ran up to Lu Zailin and loudly announced, “The dare is: change Qi Yu’s phone number contact name to ‘Boyfriend,’ then call him and tell him you like him!”
Lu Zailin: …?
Seriously, is that even humanly possible?
The dare was actually to call his nemesis Qi Yu and confess his feelings?
Lu Zailin refused without a second thought.
“Reason?”
Lu Zailin: “I don’t have his phone number.”
The class monitor immediately volunteered, “I do!”
Looking at the phone number the class monitor handed over, Lu Zailin glanced helplessly at the troublemaking classmates. “Can I switch to Truth or Dare? I can answer three questions.”
Xiaoyi: “No, once you choose Dare, you can’t switch.”
The class monitor fueled the fire, “That’s right, Lu Zailin, you have to follow the rules.”
Encouraged by the class monitor, a chorus of voices echoed around him.
Lu Zailin had no choice but to save Qi Yu’s phone number and change the contact name to “Boyfriend” under the watchful eyes of his classmates. His hand was practically shaking as he typed those three words.
Amidst meaningful glances, Lu Zailin dialed Qi Yu’s number.
The phone rang for a long time without being answered. Lu Zailin chuckled, “Too bad, if he doesn’t answer, then I…”
“Hello?”
Class monitor: “He answered, he answered!”
“Shh, everyone be quiet.”
Lu Zailin pursed his lips, unsure of what to say.
Qi Yu: “Hello?”
It was noisy on Qi Yu’s end, with music and crowd noise faintly audible. Someone nearby seemed to ask, “Who is it?”
Qi Yu: “I don’t know, maybe a wrong number.”
Hearing that Qi Yu was about to hang up, the classmates surrounding Lu Zailin quickly urged him.
Lu Zailin had no choice but to speak up, “Don’t hang up yet, it’s Lu Zailin.”
There was silence on Qi Yu’s end.
After a while, the noise from the receiver gradually subsided, and he seemed to have moved to a quiet place.
“What do you want?”
Lu Zailin cleared his throat, enduring the pressure of everyone staring at him, and said helplessly, “Qi Yu, I like you.”
Hearing no sound from the receiver for a long time, Lu Zailin wondered if the signal was bad.
“Hello, can you hear me?”
“I can hear you.”
Another moment of silence ensued. The classmates beside him were itching to snatch the phone and confess for him, feeling extremely anxious.
Lu Zailin had no choice but to add, “Well, don’t take it seriously. I’m playing Truth or Dare with my classmates, and I lost. This is their dare, sorry.”
Qi Yu simply hummed in response. If Lu Zailin hadn’t been listening carefully, he might not have even heard it.
Lu Zailin: “Then I’ll hang up first, sorry.”
Lu Zailin hung up the phone.
It was so embarrassing.
Fortunately, it wasn’t his turn again for the rest of the game.
Lu Zailin breathed a sigh of relief. Looking at the time on his phone, he had to hurry home.
Just as he stood up, he felt a wave of dizziness. Jian Yang next to him grabbed him in time. “Are you okay?”
“What’s wrong, Lu?”
“Still not feeling well?”
“Lu, you should go home and rest.”
Lu Zailin shook his head. “I’m fine, I’ll go first.”
Class monitor: “Need a ride?”
Lu Zailin: “No need, you guys have fun.”
Lu Zailin checked the time while hastily texting the driver.
He was looking down at his phone when he bumped into a man at the corner.
Lu Zailin was about to apologize when he looked up and met Qi Yu’s silent gaze.
The two were momentarily silent. Lu Zailin felt particularly awkward, having just confessed to him over the phone.
He suddenly remembered that Jian Yang had mentioned that Qi Yu’s class was also having a gathering here.
What a “special” coincidence. He was about to die of embarrassment.
Qi Yu picked up the phone that had fallen to the ground and handed it to him.
Lu Zailin pursed his lips. As he took the phone back, he accidentally touched Qi Yu’s hand and immediately recoiled.
“Thanks.”
Qi Yu said nothing and left.
Lu Zailin turned to look at him. The collision with Qi Yu had allowed him to catch a whiff of Qi Yu’s scent, a faint, fresh, and cool pine aroma.
Was it cologne?
Or… pheromones?
If it was the latter, Lu Zailin didn’t dare to stay here any longer. He might be differentiating.
The various mixed scents in the hall made Lu Zailin feel uneasy. Home was a twenty-minute drive away, and for the first time, Lu Zailin felt that time was passing so slowly.
The dizziness was getting worse, and he was even seeing double. He leaned against a pillar in the corner.
At that moment, several drunken men walked out of the entrance. As they passed Lu Zailin, they suddenly stopped, sniffing the pheromones emanating from him, and looked at him lewdly.
“What’s that smell? It’s so fragrant.”
“Turns out it’s an Omega.”
“Is he in heat?”
Lu Zailin was already somewhat delirious. He vaguely heard what they were saying and watched them close in. He pinched his palm hard, using all his strength to break free from the drunkards blocking his way and ran forward.
