July in Guangzhou is hot and humid. A rain had just passed, and the palm trees by the roadside were swaying in the wind. Sunlight broke through the clouds again, shining through the glass onto Su He.
Last night, when he returned to the Su residence, he was still covered in red wine stains, his hair wet and clumped together, looking a bit disheveled.
The servants at the Su residence only watched from a distance, not intending to offer any assistance.
Following a bit of the original owner’s memory, Su He returned to his room and found that most of the original owner’s belongings were already piled up like trash at the door.
After cleaning himself up, he rummaged through the “trash pile” to find a pillow, lay on the bare mattress for the night, and now he was pulling out a suitcase to pack his things, only stuffing in a few clothes and the original owner’s necessary documents.
There was a murmur of conversation at the door. He glanced at the hallway outside, where a few servants were quietly gathered, staring at him.
It was as if they couldn’t believe that after seeing the room in such a mess, Su He would remain so calm instead of throwing a fit, perhaps he was holding back some big move.
Su He paused, then kicked the door shut with a bang. The whole world went silent. He squatted on the ground, pondering the future, feeling that the road ahead was uncertain.
Yesterday’s phone call, Secretary Chen from Sheng Corporation had arranged to meet with him.
According to the plot, the original owner, in pursuit of fame and fortune, turned to the big villain and was then placed by Sheng Zonglan as an assistant beside the protagonist, Sheng Jingyu, acting as a spy for Sheng Corporation’s chairman on his son.
The original owner was full of schemes and did all sorts of bad deeds, leading to a tragic end!
Because the male protagonist was no pushover, and once he discovered the traitor by his side, he dealt with it without hesitation, using rather ruthless methods.
Su He touched his still intact limbs, frowned, and sighed. Wouldn’t he be tortured to the point of nothingness?
Well, the original owner’s end was indeed nothing left. After much thought, Su He decided to attend the meeting and resign in person.
The renowned Sheng family of Guangzhou, with its current chairman, could find anyone they wanted, surely it wouldn’t have to be him!
As Su He dragged his suitcase out, he passed by the trash bin at the door. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a tilted transparent plastic fish tank inside, with half the water already leaked out.
Two half-dead goldfish were still struggling, much like him. Knowing their days were numbered, yet unwilling to die just like that.
Su He simply took out the fish tank, refilled it with water, and placed it on his suitcase to take along. As he walked into the living room, the sound of the door opening echoed from the entrance.
A family of four returned home, chatting and laughing, but when they saw him standing in the living room with his suitcase, their smiles vanished. Father Su put on a stern face, “Going on a business trip again? Don’t rush off, we have something to discuss with you.”
The original owner wasn’t particularly favored in the Su family, having grown up with his grandmother and having a distant relationship with the Su couple. After his grandmother passed away, he was brought back home, and a younger brother was added to the family.
The original owner’s intelligence and wit were used in crooked ways to seek attention, which only strained his relationship with Father Su and Mother Su further.
The boy standing beside the couple was probably the biological son they found, who resembled Mother Su quite a bit. The woman patted her son’s hand to comfort him, sending him upstairs first. The couple then stood sternly in front of Su He, ready for a three-court trial.
They knew this eldest son was smart and cunning, and seeing the items thrown out of the bedroom, he surely understood their attitude.
With Su He’s personality, he wouldn’t let it go easily. He would definitely make a big fuss, sticking to them like a sticky candy!
Mother Su had anticipated this and immediately took the initiative, “Ah He, don’t blame us for being heartless. We’ve raised someone else’s son for so many years, and we haven’t treated you badly.”
“You can’t stay even if you don’t want to leave. Things need a resolution,” Father Su continued. The two of them spoke back and forth, assuming he would cling on, leaving Su He with no chance to interject.
Only the young brother seemed to understand that the brother who grew up with him was about to be driven away, and he clung to Mother Su’s waist, crying and making a fuss, trying to use tears to persuade his parents to keep Su He.
This only led the couple to misunderstand, thinking Su He was using the younger son’s affection to manipulate him into pleading for him, and naively believing he could use emotional blackmail to soften their hearts. They were immediately angered by this assumption.
“Su He, don’t be so ungrateful and make things ugly for everyone,” Father Su assumed the posture of the head of the family, habitually taking on an authoritative stance to educate.
“We’ve been more than kind to you. Are you afraid that without the Su family, no one will give you money? Fine, I’ll give you this money…”
Father Su had already put his hand in his pocket, ready to take out the card he had prepared to send Su He off with, but then Su He waved his hand and smiled gently, “You’ve misunderstood, I don’t want money. I’ve already packed my things.”
He glanced at his phone, the taxi he had booked was already at the door. He looked up and said, “I just wanted to let you know that I’m leaving.”
“What!?” Father Su and Mother Su exchanged glances, this troublesome eldest son not only didn’t want money but also agreed to leave immediately without any fuss?
The couple was taken aback, exchanging a look of uncertainty, wondering if this was some delaying tactic by Su He.
“You’re right, I should thank you for the care over the years. Oh, and I didn’t take anything, just some documents and a change of clothes. Do you want me to open it for inspection?” Su He smiled, his eyes curving, with no hint of reluctance. He quickly pushed the suitcase over, about to squat down and unlock it.
Father Su was choked, that “thank you” sounded sarcastic no matter how he heard it.
Mother Su awkwardly waved her hand, saying twice that it wasn’t necessary. Before leaving, Su He solemnly bowed to the two of them. Although he didn’t grow up in this broken family, this family did raise this body to adulthood.
Mother Su watched Su He’s departing figure, her face a bit hard to maintain, looking at her husband with a worried expression, “…Did we go too far?”
Father Su snorted coldly, confidently saying, “This is just a ploy to gain sympathy. He must have another trick up his sleeve, be on guard.”
After rushing to catch the car, Su He finally breathed a sigh of relief. The villa area where the Su family was located was too large, and unfamiliar vehicles weren’t allowed in, so he had to run out of the park.
Two hours later, standing in a study in the Sheng family manor, Su He realized that this big villain really couldn’t do without him.
As soon as Su He expressed his determination to terminate the cooperation, the middle-aged man behind the pear wood desk looked up, smiling faintly, “Mr. Su, do you find the compensation unsatisfactory?”
Seeing the creepy smile at the man’s lips, Su He immediately imagined the cannon fodder passersby who were killed by the villain for saying the wrong thing, and instantly felt he might not be far from death.
He smiled with resignation, well, the sooner it’s over, the sooner it’s reborn. Anyway, whatever he said at this point would be wrong!
Director Sheng looked at Su He, smiling confidently, thinking he was sure to succeed. He glanced at Secretary Chen standing beside him, and the two exchanged a look.
Secretary Chen also thought this person was quite something, being able to confidently raise the price in front of Director Sheng, definitely had potential.
Secretary Chen immediately smiled, “Mr. Su is indeed a smart man. We wouldn’t have found you if we didn’t trust your abilities. As long as the job is done well, compensation is not an issue.”
Su He was stunned: O.O? Trust who? Me?
“But if Mr. Su insists on backing out halfway, then this matter won’t be easy to discuss,” Secretary Chen smiled gently. Anyone could hear the threat in his words.
Sheng Corporation, the largest force in the entire book, though an outsider, had become a dominant presence in Guangzhou. Guangzhou, bordered by the sea on two sides, with numerous ports, faced the gold-rich Jinsand Island across the sea.
Thirty years ago, the entire family moved from the island to Guangzhou, taking root there and connecting the trade between the two places.
Originally, Su family’s Jialai Technology was already considered a leading enterprise in Guangzhou, but it couldn’t be compared to the century-old Sheng family business.
Crushing a small ant like him would be all too easy. If he refused, he probably wouldn’t be able to leave this room. Su He simply nodded without saying anything.
No problem. If this doesn’t work, once he meets the male protagonist, he’ll find a way to make the protagonist refuse to accept him! Su He cheered himself up, following out of the study room, while Secretary Chen intermittently reminded him of things, which he seriously memorized as if attending a class.
“The young master just returned from abroad yesterday. He had an accident during a race recently and injured his arm, so he might be a bit irritable. If you can successfully stay by his side, that will be the first step to success,” Secretary Chen said while leading the way.
Su He didn’t have a deep impression of the protagonist. His attention was mostly on the plot of this character with the same name, and many scenes were skipped.
His only impression of the protagonist was that this young master was once a popular race car driver, but his villain father called him back home to inherit the family business, ending his racing career. His temper wasn’t very good, and…
This person might even hang him up and break his limbs in the future! “So we’re going to…” Su He asked softly. Secretary Chen smiled, “To meet the young master.”
Su He couldn’t help but touch his hand again. This wasn’t meeting the young master, it was meeting the living King of Hell!
Ten minutes later, the vehicle stopped at the entrance of a park. Su He got out of the car, and in front of him was a vast horse racing track.
The orange glow reflected in his eyes, allowing him to see the sunset sinking into the horizon without obstruction.
He followed Secretary Chen into the stable, where the air freshener mixed with a bit of animal smell hit him, making him wrinkle his nose.
At a glance, most of the horses were black and white, with sleek bodies and shiny coats, lined up to be fed by the caretakers. And in one of the stalls, a tall man was standing in the middle, seemingly… fixing a horse’s hoof?
That should be the protagonist in the story, Sheng Zonglan’s only son, Sheng Jingyu.
Su He was so certain because Sheng Jingyu’s appearance and demeanor were so outstanding, vividly described by the original author, making it hard to mistake him.
Probably just finished a horse ride, this person was still wearing riding pants on the lower half, with straight long legs tucked into boots, and only a black tight shirt on the upper half, accentuating his muscular lines with several folds.
His movements were slow because his right forearm was fixed with a brace, probably unable to exert force, making the coordination of his hands not very smooth.
An injury needing such a fix was at least a bone fracture, yet he was brazenly doing such activities?
Truly ruthless!
Su He didn’t speak, watching Secretary Chen stand respectfully beside Sheng Jingyu, “Young master, this is the assistant Director Sheng selected for you, Mr. Su.”
“Hello, Mr. Sheng, I’m Su He,” Su He said politely. But after he finished speaking, the person didn’t react at all, only lifting his eyelids to glance at him, unclear if he even saw him clearly.
His squatting motion pulled his collar down, suddenly revealing a small part of a black tattoo, not showing the full picture, but Sheng Jingyu’s sharp facial features and short hair made his demeanor even less like a good person.
Sheng Jingyu’s injured hand pressed on the horse’s leg, using his intact left hand to hold a scraper, carefully cleaning the overgrown keratin layer, occasionally conversing with the hoof repairman behind him in French.
Completely ignoring the two living people beside him. Indeed, as described in the book, a terrible temper…
Su He silently criticized for a moment, then looked away. Secretary Chen seemed to have expected this, stepping aside, looking at Su He as if to say, now it’s your time to shine.
Su He blinked, his hands unconsciously twisting together, looking for a chance to speak.
Sheng Jingyu and the hoof repairman exchanged words intermittently, but mostly it was the repairman speaking, and Sheng Jingyu only occasionally responded, as if his mouth was rented at a high price, and every word had to be weighed.
Su He watched those veined hands, observing his tapping and scraping on the horse’s hoof. Sheng Jingyu probably had OCD, every cut had to be measured for angle, his technique was clean, if made into a stress-relief video online, it might go viral.
As time passed, Su He was almost lulled to sleep, but then the light in front of him was blocked by a tall shadow.
He looked up to see Sheng Jingyu standing two steps away, staring coldly at him.
