Chapter 11
During lunch, Jiang Ning suggested going to work with everyone in the afternoon.
“No need. Your father and I are at home, and the work points we earn every year are enough for our family to eat.” Tian Yufang refused immediately.
“Mom, there are six of us in the family. Except for grandma, the rest are all strong laborers and eat a lot. How can the work points of you three be enough?
“Even three-year-old children in other families go out to pick grass for pigs, so it’s not good for me, a grown-up, to stay at home all the time.” Jiang Ning said calmly and seriously.
“Ningning, let’s wait a few days. Yanli still needs someone to take care of him, so you don’t have to go out for now.” Ji Hongzhi said after thinking for a moment.
“Yes, Ningning, listen to your father. When Yanli gets better, you can go to the fields together.” said Old Mrs. Ji.
As she spoke, she picked up an egg and put it into Jiang Ning’s bowl. “Eat more eggs to supplement your nutrition. You’re as thin as a kitten.”
Jiang Ning saw that the plate of scrambled eggs with green peppers on the table was almost entirely made up of green peppers, so he picked up the eggs and put them back into Mrs. Ji’s bowl.
“Grandma, you should eat eggs. Green peppers are a high-vitamin C, low-calorie vegetable. They are rich in dietary fiber, multiple vitamins and minerals. They have the effects of enhancing immunity, promoting digestion, and anti-oxidation. So I still prefer to eat green peppers!”
“Really? Are green peppers really that nutritious? Then I’ll eat green peppers too.”
When Ji Yansui heard what Jiang Ning said, she, who didn’t like green peppers, immediately picked up a piece with chopsticks and put it in the bowl, and started eating it with brown rice.
“Ningning knows so much. It seems that Yanli is lucky to have married such a good wife.” Old Mrs. Ji said with a smile.
Jiang Ning smiled when she heard this and lowered her head to eat. She wondered if Grandma Ji and her mother-in-law would be able to handle it when she and Ji Yanli divorced.
In the afternoon, after his parents-in-law and Ji Yansui went to the fields, Jiang Ning also prepared to go out.
“Where are you going?” Ji Yanli asked.
Jiang Ning poured a glass of water for Ji Yanli and said, “I’m going to do the laundry. You stay in the room. Remember to call grandma if you need anything.”
Ji Yanli propped himself up and leaned against the head of the bed. He tilted his head to look out the window. The clothes drying in the yard were swaying gently in the wind.
He looked up at Jiang Ning and nodded after a long moment. “Be careful!”
Jiang Ning nodded when she heard that. Just as she opened the door and was about to go out, she suddenly stopped and turned to look at Ji Yanli.
“Can you read?”
Ji Yanli was stunned when he heard this. He didn’t understand what Jiang Ning meant, but he nodded mechanically and said, “I know a few!”
Upon hearing this, Jiang Ning turned around and walked to the desk. Using his body as a cover, he took out a book, “Crash Landing on You”, from the space and handed it to Ji Yanli, “To help you pass the time.”
Ji Yanli took the book and stared at the water-covered cover in surprise. He looked at Jiang Ning in surprise, “What is this?”
“I usually use this to kill time. You can just read it and don’t let others find out.”
After giving his instructions, Jiang Ning left quickly.
As she walked out of the room, she suddenly remembered something, turned back, took out a pill from the space and stuffed it into Ji Yanli’s mouth.
“Good medicine tastes bitter, don’t spit it out.”
After saying that, she quickly left the room.
Ji Yanli looked at Jiang Ning’s departing back, touched the gold-embossed cover of the book, and the corners of his mouth rose unconsciously.
He took out the pill in his mouth with great difficulty, which was more bitter than his life, and then opened the first page of the book and began to read.
Jiang Ning took a bucket from the yard and went out, walking towards the river at the entrance of the village.
She thought of catching some fish and sending them to the market tomorrow to exchange for some rice and flour. Although private transactions were not allowed now, she could trade on the black market.
The bamboo forest by the river rustled in the wind.
Jiang Ning rolled up his trouser legs and stepped into the shallows, the bamboo spear in his hand flashing coldly in the sunlight.
A big fat carp swam leisurely by, unaware of the approaching danger.
“I must make him drink two more bowls of fish soup today…” She held her breath and concentrated, and the bamboo spear pierced into the water like lightning.
As the water splashed westward, she didn’t notice a pair of malicious eyes in the bamboo forest behind her, staring at the busy figure by the river.
This person is Qiu Liang, the youngest son of the village chief of Qinghe Village. He relies on his father to bully others in the village all day long and is idle and does not work.
He had originally planned to go to the next village in the afternoon to visit some of his usual friends, but when he passed the stone bridge at the entrance of the village, he saw from afar a beautiful figure catching fish in the river not far away.
He was attracted by Jiang Ning’s agility in catching fish, and an evil idea came to his mind.
He looked down and saw that all the villagers had gone to work in the fields, so there was no one by the river at the moment.
Qiu Liang licked his lips and quietly walked towards the depths of the bamboo forest by the river.
Jiang Ning was concentrating on fishing, so he didn’t notice anything unusual around him.
After she caught several crucian carp and carp with bamboo reeds, she squatted on the river bank and started to make nests.
She first dug a large sand pit on the riverbank next to the river, then spread a fishing net on it, and then dug up the river water to let the river water flow into the pit.
She took out a special bait that could attract fish and shrimp from the space and sprinkled it into the water, then sat aside and waited quietly for the fish to bite.
At this moment, a figure suddenly jumped out of the bamboo forest behind her, covered her mouth with one hand, put his arm around her shoulders with the other, and walked into the forest behind her.
Jiang Ning was startled and struggled desperately, kicking his feet to try to get rid of the sudden attacker.
Qiu Liang didn’t expect her to resist so fiercely, and he staggered and almost let go of her hand.
In this panic, Jiang Ning bit Qiu Liang’s hand that was covering her mouth. Qiu Liang felt the pain and let go of his hand, then slapped Jiang Ning in the face, “You bitch, you dare to bite me!”
He straddled Jiang Ning and pressed her to the ground, tearing off her shirt with his hands.
Jiang Ning took out an anesthetic needle from the space and stabbed Qiu Liang’s neck quickly and accurately.
Qiu Liang’s body soon became paralyzed and he fell motionless on Jiang Ning.
Jiang Ning pushed him away and got up from the ground. She quickly tidied her clothes and hair, then looked at the gangster Qiu Liang on the ground fiercely.
She looked down and saw that there was no one around, so she took out the corpse-dissolving water from the space and poured it on Qiu Liang.
This corpse-dissolving water is a highly corrosive concentrated sulfuric acid developed exclusively by Jiang Ning. It can decompose a corpse into a pool of blood in the shortest time.
Jiang Ning fetched a bucket of water from the river to wash away a pool of blood on the shore, then returned to the sand pit and began to collect the net.
When the net was pulled up, there were more than a dozen carp and crucian carp of different sizes, as well as many river shrimps.
Jiang Ning put all the fish and shrimp into the bucket and walked towards home.
Old Mrs. Ji was standing at the gate of the yard, leaning on a crutch and with a towel on her head, looking forward to it.
When she woke up from a nap, she found that Ji Yanli was the only one left at home besides her, and her granddaughter-in-law Jiang Ning had disappeared.
After asking Ji Yanli, the old lady learned that her granddaughter-in-law had gone out. She became very nervous and worried that her granddaughter-in-law had secretly escaped.
Although Ji Yanli said that Jiang Ning would be back soon, the old lady was unsure and still a little skeptical.
Jiang Ning was walking towards home with a bucket of water in her hand. From a distance, she saw her grandmother standing at the door, looking at her.
She knew that the old lady was worried that she would never come back, so she quickened her pace and quickly came to Old Lady Ji’s side.
“Grandma, why are you standing at the door?”
When Mrs. Ji saw her granddaughter-in-law coming back, the heavy stone in her heart finally fell to the ground.
“Ningning, where have you been? Why are your clothes so dirty?”
