Chapter 12
Jiang Ning placed the bucket in front of Grandma Ji and said, “Grandma, I’m going to the river to catch fish.”
“Catching fish?” Grandma Ji looked at the fish in the bucket and couldn’t help but be surprised. “Ningning, did you catch all these?”
“Well, we have fish soup again tonight.” Jiang Ning said as he walked into the yard carrying a bucket of water.
Ji Yanli, who was in the house, heard the noise coming from the yard and knew that Jiang Ning had returned. He stretched his head and looked out the window.
The book “Crash Landing on You” in his hand had already been turned to the middle chapter…
Jiang Ning saw an unused small water tank in the corner of the yard and asked Grandma Ji, “Grandma, is that water tank still useful?”
“Oh, it’s for pickling vegetables in winter. I can’t use it right now.”
Grandma Ji said this as she carried a small stool to the kitchen door and sat down. She held a pair of scissors in her hand, ready to clean the dead fish that Jiang Ning brought back.
Jiang Ning walked to the water tank, cleaned out the debris inside, and then rolled the water tank sideways to the kitchen door.
After she fetched water to clean the water tank, she put the water in the bucket into the water tank.
“Grandma, please watch the fish in the tank and make sure some cat smells the fish and eats them. I’ll go get some water.” Jiang Ning instructed Grandma Ji.
“Ningning, you don’t know where the well in the village is. Let me take you there!” said Grandma Ji.
Jiang Ning thought about it and nodded, “Okay, you lead the way this time, and I’ll know where it is next time.”
After she said that, she took a dustpan from the kitchen and covered the tub with it. But after thinking about it, she felt it was not safe, so she turned her gaze to a room in the east.
Jiang Ning moved a chair next to the water tank, then walked quickly into the house. Without saying a word, she picked up Ji Yanli and walked out the door.
Ji Yanli was startled by this sudden action, and the book in his hand fell to the ground with a “bang”.
He was nearly 1.9 meters tall, but was easily picked up by Jiang Ning, who was less than 1.7 meters tall?
“Jiang Ning, what are you doing!” he shouted in panic, subconsciously grabbing Jiang Ning’s shoulders with his hands.
Jiang Ning put him on a chair and said seriously, “Help me watch the fish and make sure the cat doesn’t eat them.”
Ji Yanli’s face flushed red. He opened his mouth to say something, but he saw Jiang Ning turning around and leaving the yard with the bucket.
Grandma Ji was grinning from ear to ear and said, “Yanli, just help Ningning and watch over her.” After saying that, she supported herself with her crutches and walked briskly out with Jiang Ning.
Ji Yanli sighed helplessly and could only sit on the chair and guard the water tank.
He had not yet recovered from the shock. Jiang Ning looked thin and frail, but he did not expect him to be so strong.
He reached out and touched the place on his ankle where Jiang Ning had touched him. Her warmth still remained there, and his cheeks couldn’t help but get even hotter.
Half an hour later, when Jiang Ning stepped into the yard carrying two buckets of water, the wooden buckets made a creaking sound.
Ji Yanli looked up when he heard the voice, and almost instinctively propped himself up to help, but his face suddenly changed the moment his feet touched the ground.
“Don’t move!” Before Jiang Ning could finish his exclamation, he heard a muffled “bang”.
Ji Yanli fell to his knees on the ground, his slender fingers digging deep into the mud.
He looked at his shaking legs in disbelief, veins bulging on his forehead – this tough guy who was once invincible on the battlefield now didn’t even have the strength to stand.
The bucket fell heavily to the ground, and the splashing water wet Jiang Ning’s trouser legs.
She rushed forward in two steps, and the movement of bending down brought up a breeze mixed with soapberries and sweat.
“Who told you to move?” Her voice was tense, and she put her arms through his armpits.
She picked up Ji Yanli with such ease that it was shocking how light he was.
He subconsciously wanted to struggle, but was pinned down by her warning look: “If you move again, I’ll throw you to the ground.”
The sunlight passed through her scattered hair, casting fine shadows on her face.
Ji Yanli was forced to look up at her. From this angle, he could clearly see the dense beads of sweat on the tip of her nose and her eyelashes trembling slightly with her breathing.
A drop of sweat suddenly fell and landed on Ji Yanli’s collarbone.
The warm liquid slid down his collarbone into his collar, and Ji Yanli trembled all over.
The drop of sweat seemed to carry an electric current, flowing along the blood vessels and hitting the heart first.
His Adam’s apple rolled as he smelled the faint herbal fragrance in her hair, mixed with the smell of cotton cloth dried in the sun.
When Jiang Ning placed him on the rattan chair, his fingertips accidentally brushed against the back of his neck.
Ji Yanli’s whole body stiffened, his eyes flickered, and he swallowed hard.
“Thank you.” Ji Yanli’s voice was hoarse.
When he let go of her hand, the warmth from his fingertips lingered on her waist for a long time.
Jiang Ning turned around calmly, picked up the bucket on the ground, and poured the water into the water tank.
“No need to thank me, just stay here quietly.”
After she said that, she picked up the shoulder pole and carried the empty bucket out to continue fetching water.
Grandma Ji walked over to sit next to her grandson. While cleaning the fish in her hands, she said, “Yanli, you have a good daughter-in-law. She is well-behaved, sensible and capable. You must treat her well.”
Ji Yanli lowered his head, his thumb gently twisting the tip of his index finger, a barely perceptible smile on the corner of his mouth, “Grandma, I understand.”
“Well, I had no other choice at the time, so I thought of finding a wife to bring you good luck, but no one in the surrounding area who knew about our family situation was willing to marry their daughter to you.
Ningning is also a poor person. She has no parents to support her, and her uncle and aunt are not good people.
Given her appearance, if her parents, brothers, and sisters were still around, it wouldn’t have been our family’s turn. Fortunately, you finally woke up.” Grandma Ji continued.
“Grandma, I know what you said. I will definitely treat her well in the future.” Ji Yanli promised.
“It’s good that you know. Although grandma is old, her eyes are clear. I see that Ningning treats you well…”
Grandma Ji paused for a moment, looked outside the yard, and approached Ji Yanli, “Yanli, you two must have a child soon. With a child, your relationship will naturally deepen.
Your parents are waiting to have a grandchild, and I, your grandmother, am waiting to have a great-grandchild.”
After hearing what grandma said, Ji Yanli’s face flushed all the way to his ears, and he stammered, “Grandma, there’s no rush for this.”
Grandma Ji patted his hands and said with a smile, “You two are already married, so there’s no need to rush.
Grandma is an experienced person and knows about the relationship between men and women. If you two get closer, the baby will come.”
As he was speaking, Jiang Ning came back carrying water.
Ji Yanli quickly sat down, not daring to discuss this topic with his grandmother anymore.
Jiang Ning poured the water into the vat, looked at Ji Yanli and asked, “Did you move anything?”
Ji Yanli hurriedly shook his head, “I didn’t move, I was just sitting there quietly.”
Jiang Ning nodded with satisfaction and went on to do other things.
Grandma Ji looked at the two of them, her eyes narrowed into slits as she smiled, and whispered to Ji Yanli, “See, Ningning is really concerned about you.
You have to be attentive and warm the girl’s heart. Once her heart is warmed, she will stay with you.”
Upon hearing this, Ji Yanli looked up at Jiang Ning’s busy figure and secretly vowed in his heart that he would treat her well in the future and give her a warm home.
Jiang Ning filled the kitchen with water and walked out of the kitchen to see the milkThere are fish scales on the hair.
She turned back to the kitchen and boiled a pot of hot water.
Twenty minutes later.
“Grandma, there are scales on your hair. Let me wash it for you!”
Jiang Ning brought out a basin of hot water from the kitchen and said to Grandma Ji.
