Chapter 9
Village Chief Jiang is 38 years old this year and is a native islander.
With his enthusiastic introduction, Su Wan got a general understanding of this bay village.
It turns out that Haiwan Village was originally called a fishing village, and its economic level was similar to that of other small fishing villages. To put it bluntly, it was quite backward.
Fortunately, the impact of the war was relatively minor.
Apart from the lack of information, there has never been any major chaos on the island.
The land here is extremely fertile, and flowers, fruits and seafood are abundant.
Later, after the troops landed, they brought a lot of advanced equipment and opened up transportation channels, allowing them to sell the abundant products and, after coordination among all parties, transport them to other areas.
After years of development, their bay village has become the core area of the island, with conditions ahead of other small fishing villages.
Seeing the happy look on Village Chief Jiang’s face, Su Wan thought to herself that a man who knows the current affairs of the times is a hero. The ancestors of Haiwan Village chose more than hard work.
“Political Commissar Liu took people on a tour of our village a few years ago and said our land is fertile and suitable for growing crops. We have a lot of land in our village, and we plant crops…”
Once Village Chief Jiang started talking, he couldn’t stop and said many words of gratitude to the army.
When he reached a small courtyard, he stopped and introduced:
“Comrade Su, look, this courtyard was just built a few years ago…”
As he spoke, he took out the key from his pocket and pushed open the gate.
He Nanfeng was tall and strong. He protected his fiancée and stepped into the yard first.
“The household is an elderly couple. Their children joined the army during the war and never returned. 80% of them…”
Village Chief Jiang spoke in a low voice. After coming in, Mo Lemo said:
“Our village is a place of kindness. We all share the same surname, so the villagers took care of the old couple until their death, and rebuilt their old house. Although their children never returned, the old couple finally died of old age.”
After Su Wan stepped into the yard, her eyes fell on two coconut trees. Although there was a corner of shade, there was no gloomy atmosphere. She only felt warm and had a good first impression.
“Don’t worry, this courtyard is currently owned by our village. Even if the elderly couple’s children come back, they can’t leave. After all, we are the ones who provided for their retirement and saw them to the end of their lives. Our village will handle their funeral arrangements. The homestead belongs to the village. This is the rule.”
Village chief Jiang pulled out a handful of weeds and clapped his hands to dispel the two people’s concerns.
Then he took out the key and continued to open the door of the main hall. After entering, he coughed twice, and there was only a smell of dust.
Although the house has not been lived in for two years, the tables, chairs and benches are all ready. After patting them, they are found to be very sturdy.
“We can trust Village Chief Jiang to handle things. Wait a moment, I’ll discuss this with my fiancée.”
He Nanfeng nodded. As their future home, he personally didn’t care about the living environment. It mainly depended on whether his fiancée liked it.
“Okay, you two should discuss it first. After all, this is where you’ll live from now on, so you have to think it through. But I’ll be honest with you, other places are a bit more shabby than this place.”
Village chief Jiang expressed his understanding, then found a broom and went into the house to clean the cobwebs.
I grumbled to myself, what a pity, such a nice house is not lived in, and is covered with dust and cobwebs, it’s a waste.
Su Wan walked around the yard, stopping every now and then to look around and measure something with her hand.
He Nanfeng waited until his fiancée finished comparing the measurements before stepping forward and asking:
“What do you think of this place?”
“Not bad, the yard is neither too big nor too small, it’s definitely enough for the two of us to live here in the future.”
Su Wan answered pertinently. According to her estimation, the yard was about 20 square meters, the house was square in shape, and the toilet was at the right corner of the front yard.
What’s rare is that there seems to be a well on the left side.
In fact, she has always been worried about the problem of fresh water resources on the island, so she asked He Nanfeng about this matter from the beginning.
There is a well in this yard, so water supply is not a problem.
She didn’t want to go to the staff quarters to fetch water, as the chances of running into the original book’s heroine and her sisters were too high.
This well is well dug, which can reduce her contact with the heroine of the original book!
“Well, Village Chief Jiang just said that this house is the newest one for rent in the village, so I’ll rent it then.”
He Nanfeng breathed a sigh of relief. His fiancée liked this house. Tomorrow he would bring people to clean up the house!
Su Wan nodded and said, this is it, no need to be picky.
Sometimes being overwhelmed by choices is not a good thing.
Village Chief Jiang opened the window of his room and heard Captain He calling him. He smiled and responded…
Witnessed by two respected elders in the village, He Nanfeng signed a three-year lease contract with the village chief.
Within three years, the house price remains unchanged, the rent is three dollars a month, and thirty-six dollars a year.
One hundred and eight dollars for three years, payable in one lump sum. The party in breach of the contract shall pay double the total rent.
Make three copies, one for He Nanfeng, one for the village chief, and one copy submitted by the village chief to the relevant department of the military region for filing.
Only then did Su Wan realize that soldiers were not allowed to rent a house outside, only officers could do so.
And if you rent a house outside, you also need something similar to a registration contract issued by the village.
In this way, on the one hand, the legitimate interests of the villagers are guaranteed, and on the other hand, the military officers are restrained and their whereabouts are controlled.
She didn’t think too much about it and thought she could rent a house at will, but she didn’t expect there were so many twists and turns involved.
However, He Nanfeng’s attitude was very clear, he took her feelings as the basis.
Since she didn’t like living in the staff housing complex, he accompanied her to rent a house.
Su Wan felt an indescribable feeling in her heart, and a famous internet saying popped up in her mind:
Those who cannot get what they want are always in turmoil, while those who are loved are often fearless.
It starts with appearance and ends with character.
At this moment, she felt that the image of He Nanfeng in her heart was becoming more and more concrete.
After everything was settled, Village Chief Jiang gave the key to the house to Captain He, and kindly asked him to take the time to relock the front door.
“Okay, thank you.”
He Nanfeng rarely smiled. After taking the key, he held it tightly in his hand.
“Captain He’s getting married soon. When the time comes, I’ll definitely come and bother you and ask for a glass of wedding wine.”
After Village Chief Jiang finished speaking, he smiled and left first.
Su Wan also finished her conversation with the elderly people and watched them leave with a smile.
Su Wan’s face flushed. She came over calmly and took the man’s arm. Her soft voice sounded:
“Nanfeng, I think the villagers here are quite welcoming. Uncle Wu just invited me to his house to eat Qingbuliang after I move in.”
“Okay, I’ll accompany you then.”
He Nanfeng trembled all over, and when his tense body was touched by the warm and soft touch, a hot current rushed straight to the top of his head.
It was the first time he was so close to a girl.
What did your fiancée say?
Whatever you say is right!
