Chapter 14
Yu Huai clenched his fists and calmed himself down, only to find that the car had driven to a place that looked like an abandoned barn in the village. Chi Xu and Lu Qiyuan were hiding in a round barn about ten meters away from him. In the granary in front of this barn, the two men that Yu Huai saw when he got in the car were hiding there, and there were some unfamiliar men’s faces beside them.
The one of the two men who had not spoken to her was assembling a sniper rifle with his head down, and the others were also holding cold guns in their hands.
Yu Huai looked even more bewildered. Was this 1985? Could such a gunfight still happen in the United States?
Is she in some parallel universe?
The barn was filled with the smell of stale straw. Sunlight filtered through the cracks, forming shafts of light through which dust danced wildly. Bullets pierced the barn’s wooden boards, sending sawdust flying.
Zhang Antong spat on the ground, his face fierce, his hands tightly gripping the rifle, “These bastards are so damn narrow-minded. It seems they didn’t learn enough from yesterday’s lesson.”
“Lao Gao, are you okay? There’s a sniper on the other side pointing at me. Damn it, I don’t even dare to look up.”
“alright.”
Gao Fuge picked up the sniper rifle and said to Zhang An: “You cover me, I’m going to go behind the barn upstairs.”
“Okay.”
“Bang–“
A man hiding behind a tree on the opposite hill was shot in the head and fell to the ground.
Chi Xu put away the gun, removed the empty magazine, and inserted a new magazine.
He shouted to his brothers around him, “Whoever solves the most problems will get a bigger bonus when they return!”
The people around shouted excitedly in response.
Chi Xu’s men worked very well together. With their excellent marksmanship, they gradually gained the upper hand. The gunfire from the people on the opposite hill gradually became sparse. Zhang Antong saw the right moment and shouted, “Charge! Charge forward with me!”
The crowd rushed out of the barn like a tiger descending from the mountain and charged up the mountain.
The chaos gradually subsided.
Lu Qiyuan kicked the corpse at his feet, his lips curled up sarcastically, “Why didn’t Yu Dingguo come out himself, but just called a group of people to work for him?”
Zhang Antong laughed, “Yu Dingguo is such a coward.”
Chi Xu warned, “Be careful, check again to see if there’s anything you’ve missed. Qiyuan, call Wang Shan, the deputy mayor of Yunzhou City, and have him send someone to clean up.”
Zhang Antong casually slung the gun over his shoulder, his face filled with bloodthirsty excitement. “My marksmanship is really getting better and better.”
But at this moment, a sharp gunshot was heard again, and Zhang Antong’s smile froze instantly. His body shook violently, and he subconsciously covered his chest with his hands, and blood flowed out from between his fingers.
Zhang Antong widened his eyes, slowly looked down, his face full of disbelief, and then fell backwards headfirst.
Chi Xu’s pupils suddenly shrank, and he raised his hand and shot the man who suddenly sat up on the ground.
“Datong!” Gao Fuge roared, rushed over and hugged Zhang Antong in his arms.
Blood quickly spread from Zhang Antong’s chest, staining his clothes red.
“Hold on, Datong, don’t scare me!” Gao Fuge’s voice trembled, his eyes red, and he shouted anxiously.
“I…I…”
Zhang Antong gasped for breath, his face full of panic, “Am I… am I going to die?”
“No, no, hold on, we’re going to the hospital now.”
Gao Fuge calmed his mind, but his arms were trembling slightly. He turned his head and said, “Boss Chi!”
They drove for two hours from Yunzhou City, so how could they get back in time?
Chi Xu clenched his fists and suddenly thought of something. He said to Lu Qiyuan beside him, “Is there a medicine box in the car? Take it all out.”
“There are three!”
Lu Qiyuan hurriedly asked a few people to get it from the car.
Chi Xu ran quickly down the mountain.
Zhang Antong’s blood-stained hands tightly grasped Gao Fuge’s clothes, his whole body trembling. He gasped for a few breaths, trying to make his voice sound steady. “It’s okay… Lao Gao… is dead, so be it. I don’t have any relatives anyway. I’m happy to follow Mr. Chi and meet you. I’ve had a comfortable life in the past two years. I accept it… Let’s be brothers in the next life…”
Gao Fuge shook his head. “Stop talking, stop talking. You won’t die.”
Yu Huai held her head tightly with both hands, not daring to move. When the gunshots outside gradually subsided, she slowly let go of her hands.
No sound? Solved? Who wins?
Should she take this opportunity to leave quickly?
As soon as Yu Huai moved his legs, someone lifted up the back of his neck.
Yu Huai was shocked. He bent his arms and tried to attack the opponent’s abdomen with his elbow.
Chi Xu held her arm and said sternly, “It’s me. I need your help with something. Come with me.”
Immediately afterwards, Yu Huai was held under the man’s armpit and half-dragged up the mountain.
Yu Huai felt extremely uncomfortable and patted his chest, “Put me down first, I can walk by myself. You’re squeezing my stomach, it hurts!”
Chi Xu ignored him and dragged Yu Huai up the mountain quickly.
When they got there, he put the man down. Yu Huai held his dizzy head and felt like vomiting. Just as he had steadied his feet, he was pulled forward two steps again, “You, go check on him.”
Only then did Yu Huai see the man on the ground still bleeding from his chest.
Isn’t this the person who just got in the car and talked to her?
Yu Huai’s expression changed, and his voice became extremely serious, “Quick! Lay him down flat!”
She reached out and pressed hard on the injured part of Zhang Antong, then turned to Chi Xu anxiously and said, “But I don’t have any tools!”
“Here it comes! Here it comes!”
Several men came hurriedly with medicine boxes in their arms. Chi Xu took the box and opened it in front of Yu Huai. “Take a look. Are these enough?”
Yu Huai said to Gao Fuge across from him, “Help me apply pressure to his wound!”
She let go of her hand, and a considerate man next to her hurriedly brought water to rinse Yu Huai’s hand.
This time, Yu Huai began to check the tools in the medicine box, including scalpels, hemostatic forceps, tweezers, sutures, alcohol, iodine cotton balls, gauze bandages, etc., even intravenous anesthetics.
Chi Xu’s medicine box is indeed well-equipped, but… this is an open-air environment.
Yu Huai pursed his lips and said to Chi Xu: “I can perform the operation, but I am not that skilled in it. Also, this is an open-air environment. Even if the operation is successful, there is a great risk of infection. I cannot guarantee that after the bullet is removed, he will…”
Chi Xu frowned and clenched his fists, “It’s okay, just go ahead and do it.”
If he doesn’t do it, Zhang Antong will have no way out.
Yu Huai took a deep breath. She had performed surgical operations before, but the number was very small, not to mention surgical intervention. She had only seen some cases in books.
“I need someone with a steady hand to help me, and everyone else should stay away.”
Chi Xu: “Gao Fuge, you stay here. Everyone else should disperse.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the brothers around him hurriedly dispersed.
Yu Huai asked Gao Fuge to take off Zhang Antong’s upper body clothes. She spread out a clean plastic sheet and spread it flat on the ground. She sighed, this was really too dirty.
After disinfecting his hands, Yu Huai disinfected the tools one by one and placed them on the plastic one by one.
He turned around and said to Gao Fuge, “Use the alcohol next to you to disinfect your hands thoroughly.”
Yu Huai sucked the anesthetic into the syringe and said to Zhang An: “I’m going to give you an anesthetic. I’m not very accurate with anesthetics, so I dare not give you a large dose. You may slowly wake up in the middle of the operation. Don’t move, just hold on.”
Zhang Antong said miserably with a pale face, “Xiao Baicai…can you do it? Don’t let me suffer again before I die.”
Yu Huai laughed and said, “You look so energetic, you won’t die anytime soon.”
The anesthetic was injected into Zhang Antong’s body, and in less than ten seconds, Zhang Antong closed his eyes and fell asleep.
Yu Huai used a cotton ball to disinfect the wound over a large area, almost disinfecting his entire chest.
He raised the scalpel, took a deep breath, encouraged himself, and slowly lowered the scalpel.
Everyone around held their breath and watched Yu Huai’s scalpel fall.
Although most people were extremely distrustful of Yu Huai, thinking that a little girl who was so young, looked so skinny, and couldn’t lift anything with her hands or shoulders, what use could she be, but because it was President Chi who sent her, no one dared to raise any objection.
Chi Xu watched her drop the scalpel, and his gaze slowly moved to Yu Huai’s face. At this moment, Yu Huai looked focused, his brows slightly furrowed, and his eyes were firmly locked on the wound of the person under him. The scalpel in his hand moved slightly, and his eyes were only on the wound, as if the whole world was condensed in this small space.
Chi Xu stared at it for a while before looking away.
After cutting open the area, Yu Huai picked up the hemostat and tweezers to carefully separate the tissue and explore the location of the bullet. “Help me wipe the sweat off my face.”
Gao Fuge hurriedly reached out and carefully wiped the sweat off Yu Huai’s forehead.
After finding the bullet, Yu Huai slowly took out the tweezers, and blood immediately splashed out, first spraying onto Yu Huai’s face.
Her expression remained unchanged, and she calmly took the hemostat and found the bleeding blood vessel and clamped it to stop the bleeding.
Yu Huai asked Gao Fuge to hold the hemostat steady, and he quickly prepared sterile silk thread. He used a needle holder or a needle holder to wrap the silk thread around the blood vessel under the hemostat, forming a coil on one side of the blood vessel. During the whole process, Yu Huai did not dare to blink, gritted his teeth and did not dare to relax at all. He passed the other end of the silk thread through the coil, then tightened the silk thread at both ends and tied a single knot.
Then repeat the steps of winding, threading and tightening to tie three square knots.
After finishing the square knot, Yu Huai took a long breath and his hands began to tremble from the soreness.
The rest is easy.
Yu Huai rinsed the wound with saline solution and disinfected it again. He sighed inwardly and lamented again that this open-air environment was simply too bad.
Lu Qiyuan sighed and said, “This girl is quite capable…”
Chi Xu didn’t say anything, his eyes fixed on the front, and he didn’t know who his gaze was on.
After cleaning the wound, Yu Huai took out the needle and thread to suture it. This was really easy for her. Her hands were very fast and the stitches were very beautiful.
When the sewing was finished and the gauze was being prepared, Zhang Antong, who was lying on the ground, woke up slowly.
He groaned twice, and Gao Fuge quickly reached out and held him down: “Don’t move, it will be fine soon.”
After bandaging and fixing the wound, Yu Huai relaxed his body and let out a long sigh. It was finally over.
