Silken Rain Gently Falls Towards the South Maple Chapter 6

Chapter 6: The Competition

Before he knew it, Yin Siyu’s livestream had already ended, yet Nan Feng was still staring at the girl on the screen. He had taken numerous screenshots earlier, and recalling his own actions, he couldn’t help but chuckle. Had she already taken root in his heart?

It was clear that Yin Siyu had been completely uninhibited during her livestream. Yet, whether she was quiet or carefree, she had already taken root and sprouted in his mind.

“Cough, cough. Professor, did you need something?” Yin Siyu had just been urgently notified that Professor Yu wanted to see her. She racked her brain seriously—had she done anything wrong recently? The summons made her a little uneasy.

“Siyu, you’re here. Come, have a seat.” Yu Feng was all smiles, which was somewhat unusual for him.

Seeing the professor’s grin, Yin Siyu felt a chill run down her spine. “Professor Yu, I—I’ll just stand. What did you want to talk about?” Sir, with you like this, I can’t relax.

Yu Feng realized he might have been a bit over the top and toned down his smile. “I heard you’re preparing to take the French C1 exam soon, is that right?”

Yin Siyu was surprised. Who had spread the news? She hadn’t even taken the test yet! Who had such a big mouth? “Uh, yes.”

Yu Feng nodded and flipped through the documents in his hand. “Given your grades and pronunciation, passing C1 won’t be a problem at all. In our entire department, there aren’t many girls at your level with such a voice. So, the reason I called you here today is to ask for your help with something.”

Yin Siyu was stunned. “Professor, what could I possibly help you with?” I haven’t even taken the C-level exam yet! You’re the professor—what could I possibly assist you with?

“You’re probably aware that our university is hosting an All-Staff Language Competition. Basically, each department has to send one representative, and for our Foreign Languages Department, each major needs to provide three participants.” Yu Feng paused to take a sip of water.

He continued, “If other departments lose, it’s whatever. But as the Foreign Languages Department, we can’t afford to lose face. So, I’ve been searching for students with excellent French skills—I don’t want you all to embarrass me.”

Yin Siyu thought for a moment. “Professor, are you saying you want me to participate?”

“Exactly. You’ll be joining two other male students. I hope you prepare well. Even though other departments don’t specialize in languages, there are still plenty of language experts among them, so don’t take this lightly.”

Yu Feng didn’t even ask if Yin Siyu agreed—it was more like a direct order. “This experience will also help improve your French. Get that C1 certification as soon as possible.”

Leaving the office, Yin Siyu still felt dazed. What kind of professor was this? He didn’t even give her a chance to speak—it was over before it even began.

After some thought, she quickly regained her composure. There was still a month before the competition—plenty of time for her to prepare for the exam and train.

“Siyu, what brings you here?” A man wearing a baseball cap, gentle and handsome, looked at Yin Siyu in surprise.

Recognizing him, Yin Siyu smiled. “Old Yu called me in. Su Shaonian, what are you doing here?”

Su Shaonian sighed helplessly. “Professor Yu told me to participate in the All-Staff Language Competition. Don’t tell me you’re joining too?”

“I was practically forced into it. Standing next to him, I couldn’t even keep up with Old Yu’s pace.” Yin Siyu shook her head.

Su Shaonian looked at the fair-skinned girl before him, his bright eyes glinting slightly. “It’s good that you’re going too. At least it increases our chances of winning.”

Yin Siyu, recalling Professor Yu’s mention of two boys earlier, asked curiously, “Besides the two of us, who else is going?”

“Tao Qiye.”

“Wow, Guan Shuang’s boyfriend! That’s amazing. It’s great that we’re all familiar with each other—we can look out for one another.” Yin Siyu was now overjoyed, all the unpleasantness from earlier with Old Yu forgotten. Indeed, one must always look forward.

Returning to the dorm, Yin Siyu immediately pounced on Guan Shuang, slightly excited. “Guan Shuang, I have good news and bad news. Which do you want to hear first?”

Guan Shuang watched her antics, her lips twitching involuntarily. Did this look like someone with bad news? “Whatever.”

“Guan baby, you’re really no fun. Fine, I’ll reluctantly tell you.”

Guan Shuang: Suddenly, I don’t want to hear it. What to do? Help? This girl must have picked up some mischief from live streams.

Yin Siyu flipped her hair. “The bad news is I have to participate in the All-Staff Language Competition. The good news is your Tao Qiye is going too. Isn’t that fantastic?”

Guan Shuang frowned slightly. Why did she feel Yin Siyu had reversed the order? “Why is Tao Qiye going good news?”

Yin Siyu grinned mischievously at her. “Because now someone else gets to suffer with me!”

If someone’s boyfriend was suffering, wouldn’t she suffer too?

“Yin Siyu, you’ve definitely been corrupted by those live streams. You—” Guan Shuang, after a long pause, was fuming.

“Hehe…”

The two of them collapsed onto the bed after their playful tussle.

“Wait, your French major is different from our design program. There are three of you, right? Who’s the other one?” Guan Shuang nudged Yin Siyu with her elbow.

“The other one is Su Shaonian,” Yin Siyu replied nonchalantly.

Hearing this, Guan Shuang immediately propped herself up. “Honestly, do you really have no feelings for Su Shaonian? He’s been looking out for you since the start of the semester. Don’t tell me you haven’t noticed.”
