Silken Rain Gently Falls Towards the South Maple Chapter 8

Chapter 8: Eye Contact

After finishing her livestream, Yin Siyu didn’t exit the game immediately. Seeing that “Feng Yu” had added her as a friend but hadn’t said anything, her sixth sense told her that he must have something to say. So she waited for his message.

[You don’t know how to play the game?]

When Yin Siyu saw the message from the other side, her eyes twitched. Was the thing he wanted to say just to mock her for being bad at the game? She resisted the urge to block him immediately.

Another message popped up: [Let me teach you.]

Yin Siyu sneered. Who did this reckless guy think he was, asking for a beating? [Oh? So you’re really good at it?]

Feng Yu: [I genuinely want to teach you, no ulterior motives. You don’t want to keep embarrassing yourself in front of your fans every day, right?]

Yin Siyu was skeptical: [What’s your scheme? Why would you help me out of the blue?]

Feng Yu: [I’m teaching you, not the other way around. What kind of scheme could I possibly have?]

Yu Liang: [Still hard to believe.]

Feng Yu: [How about this—it’s late today. Be online at 8 p.m. the day after tomorrow. I’ll carry you for one match. If you think it’s worth it, I’ll teach you. If you’re not satisfied, you can do whatever you want with me. Deal?]

Yu Liang: [8 p.m. the day after tomorrow? Fine, I’ll be free then. Let’s see just how good you really are.]

Feng Yu: OK

For Yin Siyu, gaming was just a personal hobby. As for why she agreed, she wasn’t sure herself. Maybe it was because no one had ever told her before, “You have flaws, and I can help you fix them.”

Even though she had a doting older brother, loving parents, and great friends—even though everything around her seemed perfect—she wasn’t actually perfect. She had flaws too. It was just that everyone around her tolerated them, yet no one had ever helped her improve.

Lost in thought, she wondered: Feng Yu, who exactly are you?

…………

“Hey, Yin Siyu, are you daydreaming about love?” Guan Shuang leaned in with a teasing grin.

Yin Siyu pushed her away impatiently. “Stop messing around, I’m thinking.”

“What’s got our Princess Yin so troubled?”

Yin Siyu pressed her lips together, as if about to say something, but ultimately stayed silent.

Realizing she wouldn’t get an answer, Guan Shuang nudged Yin Siyu’s shoulder. “Stop overthinking it. Food comes first—let’s go eat.”

“Where’s your other half?” Yin Siyu frowned.

“Studying for exams! You’re about to get your C1 Level Certificate, and he hasn’t even passed B2 yet.” Guan Shuang shot her a resentful look. “Why do you have to be so competitive? Now Tao Qiye has no time for me because he’s busy preparing for some language competition.”

Yin Siyu pointed at herself indignantly. “So now it’s my fault I’m ‘disturbing’ you two? Wow, okay. Guan Shuang, is this what they call Glass Friendship? You’re really ditching your friend for a guy.”

Shaking her head, Yin Siyu exaggerated her tone. “Fine, let’s break up. I don’t want to talk to you anymore.”

Guan Shuang sensed she’d crossed a line and immediately backpedaled. “Oh, come on, Siyu, I wasn’t blaming you! Are you mad? Don’t be mad. Let’s go eat at the cafeteria—second floor? My treat?”

Yin Siyu pretended not to hear, rolling her eyes and turning her back to Guan Shuang.

Guan Shuang was a bit anxious. After all, she was the one at fault here. Closing her eyes and gritting her teeth, she said, “Isn’t it your turn to clean this week? I’ll take care of the dorm cleaning for the whole week.”

“Wow, Guan Shuang, I love you so much! Friendship restored.” Yin Siyu finally achieved her goal and was overjoyed. “Let’s go to the cafeteria. Your treat.”

Guan Shuang looked at Yin Siyu’s smug expression and felt three black lines forming on her forehead: Had she been tricked? Or had she dug her own pit…

Yin Siyu pulled Guan Shuang along, in an excellent mood, and added, “Guan Shuang, don’t forget—you’re on cleaning duty for the whole week!”

Guan Shuang: Had she just made a toxic friend? She was starting to question her life choices—

At the cafeteria, Yin Siyu ran into the person she had met at the library the other day.

“Yin Siyu, look—isn’t that Nan Feng, the guy you met at the library?” Guan Shuang mumbled through a mouthful of food, nudging Yin Siyu with her eyes.

Nan Feng was sitting with his three roommates, eating. The other three were chatting and laughing, while he seemed more like a listener, occasionally responding with a few words and rarely smiling.

“Yeah.” So he really was as aloof as he seemed, Yin Siyu thought to herself.

“Even though he doesn’t talk much, he’s seriously handsome! And talented too,” Guan Shuang sighed.

Nan Feng sensed an intense, burning gaze fixed on him. He glanced up slightly and happened to lock eyes with Yin Siyu.

The eye contact lasted only a few seconds. No one around noticed, but it sent ripples through both their hearts.

She’s really pretty today too, Nan Feng thought.

When disposing of their empty trays, Yin Siyu’s group and Nan Feng’s group ended up standing side by side.

Yin Siyu watched Nan Feng, who was in front of her in line, her heart fluttering.

She really wanted to ask: Why did you only tell me your name but never ask for mine? Did the online forum posts affect you?

But she didn’t know how to phrase it—or even how to bring it up.

Yin Siyu was tangled up inside.
