Chapter 78
Yang Liming modestly remarked, “This kid didn’t inherit my looks, which is great. I was worried that my features would make the baby ugly. Luckily, he looks like you.”
Yang Yunran inherited Chen Fangru’s prominent features.
Every adult who met him couldn’t help but adore him, hold him, and call him a cute and beautiful child.
Yang Liming was busy with work, so in Yang Yunran’s dream, he spent more time with Chen Fangru.
He knew Chen Fangru had quit her job at the financial newspaper to focus on raising their child. She arranged various classes for Yang Yunran since he was young—piano lessons, art classes, swimming lessons, and even equestrian classes.
Because the child was intelligent and handsome, his piano teacher said he was exceptionally talented, a little prodigy! The family adored him.
Chen Fangru was obsessed with showing off her child, and she had early ambitions to educate their child to enter Oxford, Cambridge, or Harvard. In their social circle, assets, cars, and houses were no longer the most important things.
It is more important to cultivate an outstanding child who excels in everything compared to others.
When Chen Fangru was young, she learned piano and ballet. She had a good academic performance and outstanding artistic talent. She attended a British private girls’ school in high school and graduated from Oxford University. Naturally, children should be like her.
Yang Yunran had too much to learn. When Chen Fangru came over and saw how hard he was working on the piano stool, she made a promise to him: “Baby, Uncle is off this weekend. How about taking you out to play?”
Yang Yunran quietly replied, “Uncle, Mom said I have to master this piece by next week to play for the aunts.”
Chen Fangru knew then. Chen Fangru invited friends to her house to have Yang Yunran play the piano for them.
She loved hearing such praise.
“Fangru, how are you so good at raising kids, so smart! He can play such a difficult piece at the age of three. Could he be the next Lang Lang?”
“What Lang Lang? He’ll be the next Mozart!”
“Children born to Fangru must be geniuses. Their genes are so good!”
Professor Chen, who was only twenty years old, had a face somewhat similar to his younger sister’s, with a handsome and scholarly appearance. He was under six feet tall, slender, liked to wear light-colored shirts and black trousers, always parted his hair to the side, and wore glasses with gold rims.
He picked up little Yunran from the piano stool and said, “Your mom is going to a party this weekend. Uncle will take you out to play, and Mom doesn’t even know.”
Yang Yunran thought for a moment, hesitated, and asked, “Uncle, where are we going to play?”
Professor Chen said, “We’ve been to the amusement park last time. There are many activities there for older kids. Since you’re still young, you can’t play those. How about Uncle takes you cherry picking in the mountains?”
Little Yunran nodded obediently and agreed.
It was May, and the cherries on the mountain were ripe. Professor Chen had a summer villa on the mountain.
In his dream, Yang Yunran saw himself sitting in a child safety seat in the back seat, dressed in branded clothes, looking like a little prince. He held two small cookies he could eat at his age, which he had licked into soft crumbs, some of which were broken. He was licking his fingers and was safely protected in his seat.
Popular music was playing in the car, which Chen Fangru would never normally let Yang Yunran listen to.
Their neighbor was an internationally renowned pianist. In order to cultivate their child’s talent, Chen Fangru specifically bought a house nearby, spending a lot of money to have the pianist as a neighbor, managing their relationship, and sending Yang Yunran to learn with the pianist’s slightly older children at home.
Seeing Yang Yunran play more accurately and beautifully than the pianist’s children made her as proud as a peacock. She almost told everyone she met that she had raised a musical genius, a child who inherited her and her husband’s excellent genes!
Professor Chen took three-year-old Yang Yunran cherry picking in the mountains that day, but Chen Fangru found out.
Chen Fangru scolded him over the phone and finally said helplessly, “Cherry picking is too dangerous. Don’t let the baby climb trees and get hurt. Remember to wash the cherries before eating, or else they might have bugs.”
Yang Yunran boldly ran to the phone and said to Chen Fangru, “Mom, I picked a big basket of cherries for you.”
He spoke more clearly than most children his age.
Chen Fangru smiled and asked him, “Are they sweet?”
Yang Yunran nodded, “Very sweet, very sweet.”
Chen Fangru reminded him, “Remember to wash them before eating. If Uncle doesn’t wash them, tell Mom and I’ll scold him!”
Chen Fangzhou interrupted, “I’ll say it now. I wash the fruits. I won’t let the baby eat anything dirty.”
Chen Fangzhou was the one who took Yang Yunran back in the afternoon after picking cherries.
There was some traffic on the road. According to the car GPS, Chen Fangzhou took a detour. It was almost sunset, and unexpectedly, the car kept drifting off course and lost signal, and it was dark.
Yang Yunran dozed off in the back seat for a while.
It was a sharp brake that startled him.
He woke up in a daze, holding tightly to his broken cookies. “Uncle…” he called out.
A dazzling light came towards them. It was a silver-gray car driving very fast, driving against traffic. The high beams made Chen Fangzhou unable to open his eyes. In a moment of panic, even this cultured man cursed, subconsciously turned to look at the baby, and sharply turned the steering wheel, crashing into a large tree on the roadside.
Bang—
There was a loud noise. Chen Fangzhou lay on the steering wheel for a long time, smelling gasoline.
He woke up dizzy, a large wet bloodstain flowing from his forehead. It was pitch black outside, nothing could be seen clearly.
“Baby!” Chen Fangzhou suddenly woke up, turned around to look, and saw Yang Yunran lying unconscious in the child seat.
He hurriedly got out of the car. “Baby!”
The vehicle that caused the accident had already fled. The car was dented in the middle—
Chen Fangzhou awkwardly and urgently carried Yang Yunran out of the car, noticing the bleeding from his eyes, his fair little face covered in dirt.
“Hello, 120…” Chen Fangzhou was incoherent, laying Yang Yunran flat on the ground, not daring to move him, tears in his eyes, supporting his own bloodied forehead. “There’s been an accident. Please, please come quickly…”
The siren of an ambulance echoed through the highway.
…
The bright red ambulance stopped by the roadside.
Beside it was a silver-gray Japanese car, its front flattened from the collision.
The flashing red lights of the ambulance reflected on everyone’s faces. Medical personnel opened the door, took a child from the back seat, and then lifted an adult man from the driver’s seat.
A paramedic sniffed, “He’s been drinking. Contact the police station. The license plate number is Sichuan AXXXXXX.”
The police arrived quickly, took the drunk driver’s wallet and phone from the doctor, and traced the identity of the drunk driver from the license plate number.
“Tao Guangfeng. There’s no surveillance on the road section, and there are signs of impact, but no impact on the road. His wife’s name is Yang Xue. Check her phone number and notify her to come.” The police turned to look at the little child being wheeled into the emergency room and said, “Her husband and child are injured.”
The police station called Yang Xue while she lay on the ground, blood streaming from her head. An hour ago, she had fought with her husband, who poured hot hair treatment on her face and almost suffocated her. In the end, overwhelmed by the disparity in strength, she passed out.
She answered the phone with a blank mind, “Yes, Tao Guangfeng, my husband, what did you say… the child… how is the child?”
“Officer, I’m coming right away, please make sure the doctors save my child!” She stumbled out of the door.
At the hospital, she collided with a doctor, who frowned at her injuries and asked, “What happened to you? Do you need to go to the emergency room? Are you a victim of domestic violence? Do you have your ID?”
Yang Xue shook her head in panic, “No, my child… my child… there was an accident,” she said incoherently, “his name is Yang Yunran, he’s only three years old! He just had an accident, I don’t know where he is.”
A police officer approached her and said, “You are Yang Xue.”
“Yes, I am, my child, my child…” She looked around, her eyes devoid of light, filled only with tears.
The officer said, “Let the doctor update you. Later, we’ll need you to cooperate for a statement. Your husband is suspected of drunk driving and hit-and-run.”
The doctor asked Yang Xue to step aside and say, “Let’s talk here. Your child’s condition… is slightly better than your husband’s, who is currently…”
Yang Xue interrupted, “No need to talk about him, tell me about my child, where is he?”
“In the operating room. We need you to sign some papers. He’s not in critical condition right now, but… the accident caused his eyeball to be pierced, resulting in severe damage to the eye tissue. Standard surgery isn’t enough… we recommend an eyeball removal surgery. It’s necessary to protect your child’s overall health and prevent serious complications. During the procedure, we will handle the wound with the utmost care to minimize any possible complications. Can you agree to this?”
Yang Xue ignored her husband.
All night long, she waited for her son to come out, her head bandaged. When nurses saw the bruising on her neck, they said, “Was it the person in the operating room who did this to you? The police are here, you can tell them.”
“Thank you, but it’s useless… I’ve reported it to the police.” she said.
The police came to mediate, gave a verbal warning, and then left.
She had been through this process many times and had given up on calling the police. Yang Xue just wanted her child to survive, to wake up.
In the early hours of the morning, the nurses who had bandaged her wounds came again, looking at her with pity, and delivered some good news, “Your husband in the operating room is bleeding heavily and may not wake up.”
She sat numbly on a bench, “Thank you, how much longer until my son comes out?”
“Because the patient is so young, this surgery is quite difficult. The doctors are doing their best, please be patient.” The nurse brought her a hospital boxed meal.
Yang Xue managed a strained and grateful smile. She was dirty, smelled strongly of medicine, and blood stained her, her hair a mess like a madwoman’s, but in this state, she sat down to give her statement at the hospital.
The police asked her, “Your husband was drinking and driving. Did you not stop him?”
She replied with despair and hatred, “I passed out at the time. If I hadn’t, I wouldn’t have let him take our son out. I should have stood up to him, why did I endure it?”
The police showed a somewhat sympathetic expression, “Your husband may have fled the scene of the accident. No one has reported it yet. When he wakes up, he may face compensation and criminal liability.”
She said, “Whatever, as long as my son can wake up.”
At half-past five in the morning, just as the sky was getting light, Yang Yunran was wheeled out of the operating room. Because he was so young, his face was wrapped in bandages, swollen from blood loss, and his skin was deep red with bruises everywhere.
Tears streamed down her face as she thanked the doctor who was wearing blue surgical scrubs, “Patient’s family, the little patient has safely come out of surgery. He is no longer in critical condition after having his eyeball removed. Please rest assured.”
Yang Xue expressed her gratitude to the doctor and stayed by her son’s bedside almost sleeplessly through the night, finally managing to nap for two hours leaning against his bed.
A few hours after Yang Yunran came out of surgery, he regained consciousness. With one eye still swollen shut, he couldn’t speak, but he looked at Yang Xue, battered and disheveled.
Yang Xue sobbed uncontrollably, “Baby, Yunran, you’re awake. Are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere? Let Mom call the doctor over to check.”
Yang Yunran remained silent. Yang Xue helped him drink water and took him to the restroom.
The doctor soon came for rounds. Yang Xue asked, “Doctor, why isn’t my child speaking now?”
The doctor explained, “It’s a normal reaction after surgery. Since the patient is young, we’ll observe for a few days.”
Though initially frightened, Yang Xue believed it was a result of the surgery. She took meticulous care of him in the hospital until he was discharged.
As for her husband, after being wheeled out of the ward, a doctor told her he was paralyzed.
She didn’t care about that, completed the formalities, hired a caregiver, and ignored him.
She took Yang Yunran home, temporarily closing her shop to care for him. After the accident, Yang Yunran didn’t talk much, nor did he cry or scream like before, due to Tao Guangfeng’s abuse.
Post-accident, Yang Yunran didn’t call for his mother. He was quiet and obedient, liked to grab her clothes, and followed behind her like a little tail, hardly making a sound.
It was a long, long time before he finally called her.
For quite some time, little Yunran didn’t realize the difference between himself and others. With one eye wrapped in a white bandage, Yang Xue took him to see doctors, consulted specialists, and finally spent tens of thousands on a prosthetic eye for him—it wasn’t a small sum.
Sometimes, strange adults and elderly people would come to the barbershop and smash things, yelling hard to hear words.
Yang Yunran was protected in the back and occasionally got accidentally hurt.
Finally, Mom called the police and drove them away. She lowered the rolling shutter door and held him in her arms.
“Ranran, Mom will protect you and won’t let you get hurt.”
One day, Yang Yunran spoke up and called her. He called her “Mom.”
He said, “My eyes are a bit uncomfortable. Can I take them out?”
The artificial eye didn’t fit well. He often rubbed his eyes, and when he rubbed them, tears would fall, there would be secretions, his eyes would turn red, and sometimes they would even get infected.
Mom said, “Take it out if it’s uncomfortable.”
So he tried taking it out at kindergarten.
And so he had no friends anymore.
At kindergarten, they had to report performances. Yang Yunran thought he could play the piano, so he climbed onto the electronic piano stool. But before he could start playing, before his hands even touched the piano keys, other kids pushed him off.
The teacher pulled him away.
Because only the best-looking and best piano-playing kids could sit there. And he just scared everyone.
From age three to sixteen, his entire childhood and youth were spent in isolation.
Yang Yunran’s eyes were faintly painful.
When he woke up, he took off the artificial eye and placed it on the bedside table.
He checked the time; it was ten-thirty in the morning, and he had slept for ten hours.
Yang Yunran recalled the entire dream. He usually couldn’t remember his dreams from the previous night clearly, but this time he could.
He was raised by Chen Fangru, influenced by his pianist uncle, and bothered by the annoying neighbor boy who liked pinching his face and saying it was soft and cute, suggesting they get married when they grow up.
Yang Yunran jumped off the piano stool and said, “You’re mistaken, I’m a boy.”
The scene shifted.
Chen Fangru was doing yoga in the garden, talking on speakerphone, and occasionally glancing at her son practicing the piano.
“Fangru, I just brought back some things from my hometown. I’ll come to your place tomorrow to see the baby. Where’s the baby?” Chen Fangzhou’s voice came through the phone.
“The baby is practicing the piano,” Chen Fangru said, in a graceful stretching pose. “Next weekend, he will play Chopin for the aunts.”
Chen Fangzhou said, “Why is he always practicing the piano? He’s not a tool for you to show off. He’s only three years old; you should give him space to breathe!”
Chen Fangru replied unhappily, “He also likes playing the piano. Don’t you believe he enjoys it? Besides, where hasn’t he had space? He went swimming this morning.”
They were all from prestigious schools, except Yang Liming barely graduated from Hong Kong schools.
So from the time the child was born, Chen Fangru had planned a path to fame for him. Initially, Yang Yunran followed her steps in studying and progressing.
She was very satisfied and saw a glimmer of hope.
It was only on the day when Professor Chen came with special products and quietly said he would take Yang Yunran out to play, without telling Chen Fangru that day.
She planned a route that led to a sudden turn in the road.
The child changed after the accident.
It becomes stupid, and it doesn’t know anything. He doesn’t know how to play the piano, ride a horse, swim, or even call mom.
Chen Fangru also collapsed.
Memory stops. Yang Yunran looked at the time again, ten minutes to eleven, and Xu Xing and Yang Wanyu didn’t wake up.
He had a bathroom in his bedroom. Yang Yunran got up, washed his face, washed his eyes, and put the artificial eye back on. He was hypnotized and thought about a lot all night long.
Is this a memory left behind by the original owner’s body?
Yang Yunran does not know. If it is a memory in the body, then why did it appear only after three years?
And clarity, as if something had really happened to him.
Because he had a whole night of dreams, Yang Yunran didn’t sleep well, yawning at the dinner table.
Xu Xing sees a kiss mark on his neck and does not speak. Later, he also noticed that his middle finger wore a ring.
“Yours did not sleep well yesterday, you recognize it, I didn’t sleep in the house?” Xu asked.
Yang Yunran feels a bit guilty and is not willing to say that he is cohabiting with his boyfriend, so he has never lived here. He said: “Want to write a song, sleep insomnia at night.”
Xu Xing: “Your company gives you so much work?”
Yang Yunran: “At that time, I wanted to earn more money, I took a lot.”
Xu Xing slightly sighed: “No, Dad helped you pay the liquidated damages.”
“Oh?” Yang Yunran raised his head, “I don’t want to pay, I can do it, why give the other side money, don’t want to!”
Xu Xing looked at him: “…… Okay.”
He looked at Yang Yunran’s company’s market report and confirmed it was a promising entertainment company. Then let the secretary team go out to acquire the company: “My son’s brokerage company, called Wanyan Entertainment, will first collect the scattered shares, contact each small shareholder, and I will get the first shareholder rights in three months.”
In the afternoon, Yang Yunran accompanied Yang Wanyu for a while, chatting with her in the past, and at around three o’clock, Yang Yunran called Professor Chen and then went to see him by taxi.
Xu Xing and Yang Wanyu helped him walk his dog in the air garden.
On the way, Yang Yunran sent a message to Jiang Yi: “I’ll come to see you before you get off work.”
Jiang Yi estimated that he was busy in the lab, and it took 20 minutes to reply: “What are you doing now, with mom and dad?”
Yang Yunran: “Go find my uncle.”
Jiang Yifa called: “What are you doing with your uncle?”
“Last night I remembered something before the age of three,” Yang Yunran did not hide him. There was no need to hide this, “ask him about the situation.”
Jiang Yifa frowned: “Well? Memory recovery, do you also remember the former boyfriend?”
“No no no, don’t remember this,” Yang Yunran argued with his mouth burning: “Just remember a little bit before three years old, made a long dream. Didn’t I say this to you last night? Then I heard a hypnotic music, and suddenly I remembered a dream.
Jiang Yi suddenly asked, “What’s the name of your first love?”
Yang Yunran: “……”
Really… I really haven’t seen a guy like you.
Yang Yunran: “… How would I remember?”
Jiang Yi: “His surname is Huang.”
Yang Yunran: “Isn’t it Liang?”
Jiang Yi: “?”
Jiang Yi: “You really remember.”
Yang Yunran: “…………”
He could imagine Jiang Yi’s expressionless face right now.
Jiang Yi: “How much do you remember?”
Yang Yunran: “I can’t recall. It’s all because you showed me that lawyer Liang last time, I can’t remember his full name anymore. Don’t deepen my impression of this name anymore.”
“It’s good you don’t remember.” Jiang Yi stopped there and said, “It’s cooling down today, what are you wearing?”
Yang Yunran glanced down and said, “A wool suit, the couple outfit you gave me yesterday, I ordered it at a shop. Have you worn yours?”
“No, I’m afraid it’ll wrinkle, hanging in the office, I’ll change later,” Jiang Yi said.
Yang Yunran said, “Okay, can I visit your office since I can’t get into your lab, and watch you change?”
Jiang Yi chuckled softly and said, okay.
Yang Yunran: “Can I touch your chest muscles?”
Jiang Yi: “What do you think?”
Yang Yunran laughed, “Just let me touch your chest muscles?”
The Didi driver glanced at him strangely from the driver’s seat.
Jiang Yi: “Up to you, but don’t start a fire, I have to have dinner with your parents tonight.”
Jiang Yi looked at his watch and said, “I finish work at six, you can come by at five fifty.”
Before long, Yang Yunran took a taxi to Professor Chen’s research institute.
Security was especially strict at his biological research institute, and it took several phone calls from Yang Yunran before a student of Professor Chen’s came out to greet him.
Professor Chen led him into his office, “Baby, it’s been a while, I’ve been busy today. You finally remembered to visit your uncle?”
“I’ve been busy too, just got back a few days ago. It wasn’t intentional…” Yang Yunran chatted with him for a while, keeping an eye on the time, and asked him, “Uncle, do you remember when I was little, one day you brought some specialties from our hometown to my mom, and said you wanted to secretly take me out to pick cherries?”
Professor Chen stiffened all over, then looked at him incredulously and said, “You remember?”
Yang Yunran widened his eyes, “It really happened?”
Professor Chen stood up and said, “You remember? No, how did you suddenly… You were… after the accident, you probably had brain trauma, couldn’t remember past events or previous skills, and your personality changed too.”
After Professor Chen finished speaking, he added, “Uncle is sorry for you, if I hadn’t taken you out that day, that… that wouldn’t have happened.”
He looked at Yang Yunran’s eyes, slightly averted due to heartache.
Yang Yunran said, “Uncle… What kind of accident did you have? Was it hit and run after being hit by the car?” This was mentioned last night by Xu Hang and Yang Wanyu.
“Yes.” Professor Chen’s arm trembled slightly. After that accident, his hand nerves had problems occasionally twitching, but not noticeably.
He placed his hand under the table, not letting Yang Yunran see.
“It was a car going the wrong way, a silver-gray vehicle, my car was totaled, but there was nothing in the dashboard camera…” Professor Chen found this strange to this day.
The GPS malfunctioned, leading him to the wrong road, making him take a detour, and on a road without surveillance, he was hit head-on by the oncoming car.
Yang Yunran looked stunned. He remembered that the car that hit him was driven by Tao Guangfeng, it was silver-gray, and later repaired, his mother sold it for five thousand dollars, using it to pay for Yang Yunran’s treatment.
His mother thought she had to compensate the owner of the damaged car, but no relevant report had appeared. Tao Guangfeng did not bear criminal responsibility for drunk driving because he was paralyzed.
Yang Yunran asked Professor Chen, “What kind of person was driving… Do you remember?”
Professor Chen: “It was a man, I don’t remember the rest.” He looked regretful, took off his glasses, “I can’t remember, Baby, it’s Uncle’s fault, Uncle really apologizes to you.”
Yang Yunran hurriedly got up, “I’m fine, Uncle, I’m okay, I’m just like a normal person. You don’t have to blame yourself…”
This might not be Professor Chen’s fault.
It was that oncoming car…
“All these years, you haven’t found the car or the person responsible?” Yang Yunran asked again.
Professor Chen sighed, saying no, “We’ve been looking, your dad has been looking, but nothing. Logically, that car couldn’t have disappeared completely without a trace, because his car must have been damaged, and there would be traces if he took it to repair. Passing through the toll gate would also leave traces, but there’s just… nothing…”
With Yang Liming’s financial resources, not being able to find it indicated how difficult this matter was.
Professor Chen wiped the mist off his lenses, put on his glasses again, and looked up.
Yang Yunran was lost in thought. Rarely, he was dressed in a three-piece suit, standing straight, with fair skin and soft hair. Such a perfect and beautiful child, these defects were all caused by him.
He felt deeply distressed.
Yang Yunran actually knew what had happened. But he wasn’t a scientist, he had no evidence, and couldn’t prove it to anyone.
It sounded more like delusions from his memory confusion after the accident.
Two parallel dimensions collided at a special moment, exchanging two souls through the collision of two cars.
He was wrongly held from a young age, raised by the Yang Liming couple until he was three, and after the accident, his soul switched to another dimension, raised by Yang Xue.
At twenty-five, Yang Yunran achieved fame and success, but was also alone.
After a stage accident, he became a vegetative state, and because of a junior’s song, he was sent away.
He entered the parallel dimension in the book and became a younger, infamous Yang Yunran.
It could also be said that he had returned home.
He was born to belong here, Yang Wanyu was his mother, and Chen Fangru was his foster mother.
Yang Yunran stopped at imagining.
This kind of thing that could only be imagined and not proven, he couldn’t tell anyone, including Jiang Yi.
“After my accident, did I change a lot?” Yang Yunran asked Professor Chen, looking up.
“Yes, quite a lot, but it’s not your fault, only mine to blame. It’s not your fault,” Professor Chen said. “Uncle will take responsibility for you for the rest of my life.”
Yang Yunran thought for a moment, and clarified his thoughts, but didn’t delve into this matter.
Even Stephen Hawking couldn’t understand the theories he spent his whole life on, so why should he research to prove it?
“I don’t need you to take care of me for my whole life, Uncle,” Yang Yunran said.
Professor Chen sat across from him and said, “What do you mean? Are you not letting Uncle take responsibility for raising you?”
“I can take care of myself,” Yang Yunran said quietly. “Jiang Yi also takes care of me, and he’s responsible for treating my eyes. You’ve done a lot for me over the years. I haven’t blamed you. I can live independently now, just like everyone else. I have everything, a healthy relationship, and I’ve found my biological parents. Shouldn’t you let go too?”
Yang Yunran’s expression was very serious.
Professor Chen was stunned. Indeed, he couldn’t let go. He had been heartbroken over this matter, putting aside even his own family.
He had cared for Yang Yunran beyond reason, always feeling it was his duty.
Now Yang Yunran was asking him to let go.
“I have let go… Uncle is still your uncle, and you are still my nephew. You have to recognize that,” Professor Chen said gently. “Unless you want to sever ties with me?”
“Of course not, no, I don’t mean that,” Yang Yunran couldn’t ignore his concern and love, and he also thought of Chen Fangru and Yang Liming.
He had responsibilities towards them too.
“My parents are both coming,” Yang Yunran said finally, noticing the time was not good, and traffic might be jammed. “We might have dinner together in a few days. You should come too. I have something to attend to now, so I’ll leave.”
“Where to? I’ll drive you,” Professor Chen said, checking the time on his watch. “It’s about time for me to finish work too.”
Yang Yunran: “Huh? Can you finish work at this hour?”
Professor Chen got up, “I’m the director, I have some privileges,” he picked up his coat and said, “Let’s go.”
Yang Yunran noticed that both Professor Chen and Jiang Yi wore the same brand of watch.
He remembered Jiang Yi mentioning that his watch was a gift from his teacher.
However, Professor Chen’s watch must have been several times more expensive, probably close to a hundred thousand.
Yang Yunran got into his car.
Professor Chen drove, “So, where are we going?”
Yang Yunran mentioned a place name, and Professor Chen glanced sideways, “Jiang Yi’s research institute? Are you going to introduce your boyfriend to your parents tonight?”
Yang Yunran nodded and said yes.
Professor Chen drove the car out of the parking lot, “Are your parents making it difficult for you in this regard? Do you need me to step in? After all, I’m Jiang Yi’s teacher, carrying the reputation of a genetics professor. If they blame you, I can say it’s their genetic inheritance’s fault.”
“No one is blaming me,” Yang Yunran looked out the window and said, “Everything is fine.”
