Chapter 66: The Injured Patient Named Qiao Yu

The elderly woman and the other family in the ward treated her as a seventeen or eighteen-year-old girl, and Luo Qiao did not argue.

After sitting for a while and changing the IV fluids, Luo Qiao discreetly took out a bamboo tube and spoon from her bag and fetched some hot water.

Every now and then, she would feed the patient a sip or two of water.

When the doctor came, he emphasized that tonight was particularly critical and to pay extra attention. Later, if the patient woke up, she was to inform the on-duty doctor.

Later in the evening, Luo Qiao went out and returned with some items, preparing some food for the person in the hospital bed.

Later at night, there was another bottle of IV fluid. Once it finished dripping, it was not early anymore. After the nurse took away the IV bottle, she tidied up and turned off the light, making sure to lock the door because the round doctor would come by.

Luo Qiao sat on a stool, unable to sleep soundly even when lying on the edge of the bed. Every now and then, she would reach out to touch the patient’s forehead, afraid that he might have a fever.

Qiao Yu woke up in the middle of the night. His night vision, trained over time, allowed him to see clearly despite the darkness. Seeing someone beside his bed, he recalled what had happened during the day and realized he was in the hospital.

He moved slightly, which startled Luo Qiao awake. Still groggy, she reached out and touched the person’s forehead, mumbling to herself, “Thank goodness you don’t have a fever.”

About to lie back down to sleep, she suddenly felt something was off. She looked closely and saw that the person’s eyes were open. “You’re awake?” she asked.

Luo Qiao immediately stood up. “Are you okay? I’ll go get the doctor right away.”

Before Qiao Yu could reply, Luo Qiao quickly left the ward.

She knocked on the duty room door and said, “Doctor, patient in bed 16 is awake.”

The doctor came over, examined him, asked some questions, and then left.

This ward had a total of three beds. To avoid disturbing others, Luo Qiao didn’t say much more. She simply walked inside and took out a towel-wrapped bamboo tube from her backpack, saying, “This contains porridge. Would you like to have a little bit? It’s already cooled down though.”

In fact, before it cooled completely, Luo Qiao stored it back in her spatial warehouse.

Qiao Yu was indeed hungry. He had been delayed by something at noon and had planned to finish quickly to have an early dinner, but then another issue arose.

Now, his stomach was growling. To avoid disturbing others, Luo Qiao didn’t turn on the light. Fortunately, the bed was near the window, so she pulled the curtains open slightly to let in moonlight and fed him the porridge from the bamboo tube. The room quieted down again.

Both of them were thinking there were things to discuss, but they decided to wait until morning when it would be more convenient.

The next day, as dawn approached, there was movement in the ward. Luo Qiao woke up upon hearing the sound, a habit she had developed in the post-apocalyptic world.

Qiao Yu woke up by now, and others in the room also started waking up and coming in and out. Qiao Yu knew it was the girl who had rescued him yesterday, so he spoke up, saying, “My name is Qiao Yu. Thank you.”

Luo Qiao smiled faintly and replied, “I’m Luo Qiao. No need to thank me. If it weren’t for your call yesterday, I might have been in trouble too. If anything, I should be thanking you.”

Luo Qiao briefly explained the situation to Qiao Yu, then asked, “If the police have no further questions, I’ll be heading back. Do you need me to inform your family?”

After thinking for a moment, Qiao Yu said, “Could you call my younger cousin? He teaches at No.1 Middle School nearby.”

Luo Qiao asked, “Is it far from here? If it’s nearby, I can go over there.”

Qiao Yu replied, “The school is to the east, so it might be a bit far.”

Luo Qiao said, “Alright then, I’ll make the call for you shortly.”
