Chapter 54: Warehouse Incident, Calling for Help

“The heroine has arrived! She’s about to meet the male lead! The plot has jumped two months ahead!!!”

Little Fox’s voice chirped frantically in Chu Jiangyue’s mind, making her head buzz.

“Are you planning to stay at Jianglin Hotel? It just received a batch of teachers and students, and all the rooms are full.”

Knowing that there were no rooms available, they probably wouldn’t linger at Jianglin Hotel, right? Otherwise, Little Fox’s panicking would just make her head ache.

“Ah! No rooms left?”

Jin Churan looked a little disappointed. He and his sister, along with her teammates, had praised Jianglin Hotel to the skies, never expecting that when they returned, there would be no rooms.

The others exchanged glances—they had come to check out Jianglin Hotel because of Jin Churan’s recommendation.

Unexpectedly, they ran into the owner midway, who simply told them there were no rooms.

“That’s temporary. But the hotel just got some new supplies—you can buy some things, then check out the B City Safe Base.”

Though she had never been to the B City Safe Base, the fact that its leadership invested heavily in building a road connected to Jianglin Hotel suggested that they were considerate leaders.

“That’s the only option then. But Boss Chu, if rooms become available, you must notify me. We’ll come immediately to check in.”

Jin Churan had stayed at Jianglin Hotel for a few days and knew its environment, so if rooms were available, he would choose it.

The others weren’t as persistent as Jin Churan; they just observed Chu Jiangyue, curious about the capabilities that allowed her to run a hotel in such a world.

“Just watch the hotel announcements. Nothing else—I’ll be going now. Do as you wish.”

Since they were acquaintances, Chu Jiangyue didn’t consider them survivors needing her rescue and had no intention of bringing them along.

Of course, Jin Churan and the others noticed the silver SUV that Chu Jiangyue had driven over. They wanted a ride but, given their numbers, it was hard to ask.

Their only working vehicle was the electric scooter Jin Churan rented at Jianglin Hotel. The others were out of fuel or dead batteries—completely unusable.

Chu Jiangyue returned to her silver SUV. Jin Churan stared longingly, hoping she would offer them a ride.

Unfortunately, Chu Jiangyue didn’t pick up his signals and drove straight out of sight.

“Sister, aren’t they coming with us?”

In the car, the little girl looked confused. She had assumed Chu Jiangyue would take them along.

“They can protect themselves. I don’t need to interfere.”

After explaining to the girl, Chu Jiangyue urged Little Fox to continue searching for survivors.

“Host, host! There’s a warehouse over there with dozens of people inside!”

Chu Jiangyue had already driven far from Jianglin Hotel and encountered more survivors.

Dozens of people? Her eyes lit up—more people meant more help.

She drove straight to the warehouse doors. As she got out, a zombie lunged at her, and she instinctively kicked it away.

Basic zombie—no crystal core. She didn’t even glance at it.

“Waa…”

“Bastard! Bastard! Let go of me! Don’t bully my mom!”

“Hahaha! This little brat is feisty!”

The warehouse had no soundproofing. From outside, Chu Jiangyue could hear vile insults.

Hearing the child cry and the woman’s muffled sobs made the anger in her rise instantly.

It had only been a short time since the apocalypse, yet some people had already lost all sense of humanity.

“Host, there are too many people. We can’t fight…”

Mainly because they were outnumbered and lacked strong weapons—Little Fox could protect the host, but not the others.

“Don’t worry. I know my limits.”

Chu Jiangyue wasn’t foolish enough to rush in blindly. She opened her virtual panel to call for backup.

—Boss Chu: “Location check. Who’s nearby? Can you come over?”

Then she sent it as a group message.

—Shen Zhigui: “We’re nearby. Just finished a wave of zombies. Wait a moment, Boss Chu.”
Shen Zhigui replied instantly.

—Song Chengjun: “On the way back to the base. Sorry.”
—Ling Feng: “Ah, if I had known, I would have taken another route today. I’m too far away, can’t make it.”

In the end, only Shen Zhigui and four others were close by. Considering their strength, Chu Jiangyue thought it was enough.

Once she confirmed they were coming, she got out of the car.

“Stay here. Don’t open the window. Don’t get out. Even if zombies appear, don’t be afraid. They can’t reach you.”

Without waiting for the girl to reply, Chu Jiangyue kicked open the warehouse door.

“Who’s there?!”

She saw a fat, pig-like man lying on top of a woman, shirt off, pants not fully removed.

Around them, a crowd laughed, while across from them, a seven- or eight-year-old child struggled, restrained, crying.

Chu Jiangyue wore a tracksuit with her hair in a ponytail, clean and neat—far from someone living in the apocalypse.

Compared to her, the woman protecting the child looked instantly inadequate.

“Yo! A little girl! Boss, our luck’s good today!”

None of them thought a single woman could make trouble among so many.

The woman, previously powerless against the pig-like man, suddenly bit his greasy hand fiercely.

“Ah! You little wench! How dare you bite me! You want to die?”

He slapped her hard. Her face swelled, but she didn’t let go. She looked at Chu Jiangyue: Get her!

Chu Jiangyue couldn’t stand it. She activated her ability, forming a thorny, rigid vine.

The vine whipped swiftly toward the man biting the woman.

“She’s an ability user! Stop her!”

Seeing the spiked vine whip, the woman exhaled slightly.

The man pushed the woman aside to dodge the attack and turned aggressively toward Chu Jiangyue.

“Ability user? Let’s see whose power is stronger—your vine or my fire ability!”

A small flame ignited on his hand—smaller than the flames of Lin Xuyuan or Jin Churan.

Chu Jiangyue snorted, flicking the vine whip, striking him.

The thorns tore flesh, filling the warehouse with the smell of blood.

“Fire ability? Looks more like a tiny flame! You think you can be a boss? Your subordinates are really generous!”
