Chapter 77 – New Iced Drink Task
As soon as Chu Jiangyue finished speaking, people quickly gathered around.
“Boss Chu, we want to stay in the deluxe six-person suite.”
The first group to come forward was Jin Churan and his companions.
Strong in ability, capable of fighting zombies, and with enough coins in their accounts—they could naturally afford to stay in the best rooms.
“No problem. How long will you be staying?”
Chu Jiangyue operated on the virtual screen above the counter, then asked.
“For a month first,” Jin Chuyu decided directly, pulling out his identity card.
“One day costs 12 silver coins. A month is counted as 30 days, which makes 3 gold coins and 60 silver coins. Split among six people, that’s 60 silver coins per person. Just swipe your identity card here.”
By now, Chu Jiangyue was already very practiced at handling guest check-ins.
The group swiped their identity cards at the register’s sensor area.
The next second, each of them had 60 silver coins deducted.
“All done. Your room is 1201. Enter from Building 3 and take the elevator to the 12th floor, you’ll find it.”
Once they officially became guests, smiles spread across their faces.
“Thank you, Boss Chu. We’ll go check out the room first.”
Since it was a deluxe six-person suite, it definitely wouldn’t be shabby.
Even the standard suites at Jianglin Hotel were far better than the housing provided to residents at Base B.
If nothing else, the hotel’s ability to maintain cleanliness every single day was something the base couldn’t match.
The next guests that came to check in, Chu Jiangyue didn’t recognize, but she carefully handled their registration one by one.
The check-in rush lasted until noon before it finally tapered off.
She let the few stragglers go to Chu Jiangyang to handle.
Finally free, Chu Jiangyue immediately left the office hall and went to Building 3 to find Granny Hua.
Meanwhile, as Chu Jiangyue was busy registering guests and then heading to see Granny Hua, many people noticed that the hotel restaurant had launched a new iced drink.
Drinking it kept one unaffected by the extreme heat outside for two hours. Each cup cost 2 silver coins, but each person could only drink up to three cups a day.
If you tried a fourth cup, it would just be an ordinary iced drink.
At 2 silver coins per cup, it wasn’t expensive, but drinking three a day wasn’t exactly cheap either.
Still, this gave people who couldn’t afford constant-temperature suits another option, which surprised and delighted many.
When Chu Jiangyue arrived at Building 3, Granny Hua happened to be coming out.
“You’re here. I was just about to make lunch for you,” Granny Hua said, stepping out from her single room, intending to head to the log cabin kitchen.
“No rush. Have you eaten yet?”
“I’ll just grab something at the restaurant. It’s not too late to cook for you afterward.”
Granny Hua never forgot that she was hired by Chu Jiangyue to prepare three meals a day.
Otherwise, with the hotel’s limited spots, who knew when an old woman with one foot in the grave like her would ever get a turn?
“The restaurant just launched a new drink today. I wanted to try it. Let’s eat there together.”
Chu Jiangyue never really intended for Granny Hua to wear herself out cooking for her, so she always found excuses.
Granny Hua gave her a skeptical look. She was beginning to suspect that Chu Jiangyue never actually wanted her to cook at all.
“Come on, let’s go. The new drink supposedly has a special effect. Don’t you want to try it?”
She half-pulled, half-dragged Granny Hua into the restaurant.
Inside, they saw many people crowded around the vending counters.
Previously, the counters only had steamed buns, meat buns, corn, and napa cabbage. Now, there was also a beverage section.
Some people bought three cups of the iced drink without even drinking them, just carrying them out of the restaurant.
Chu Jiangyue guessed they wanted to use the drink’s heat-resisting effect to go outside and fight zombies or gather supplies.
“Granny Hua, do you want to try one?”
Though there was a line, Chu Jiangyue could buy directly from her system’s mall at wholesale price.
Anything she bought herself could be gifted or resold.
At 2 silver coins a cup, it wasn’t much for Granny Hua, who had 80 silver coins saved, but she could only afford to indulge once in a while, not daily.
“Too many people. Let’s look at the food first.”
The menu hadn’t changed in ages, and many guests were already tired of it.
But compared to the moldy, rotten food outside, the restaurant meals were still extremely precious.
The two of them only ordered a few dishes: braised pork, scrambled eggs with tomatoes, shredded potatoes in vinegar sauce, and two bowls of rice.
Balanced and nutritious.
Chu Jiangyue didn’t need to pay for meals at the restaurant, but Granny Hua, not one to freeload, insisted on giving her half the cost.
That effectively meant Chu Jiangyue still profited wholesale.
Since dishes sold at the counter were priced at double her system’s purchase cost, she made money either way.
Unable to refuse, she accepted Granny Hua’s money.
Just as she took her first sip of the iced drink—
[New Mission: Within 3 days, sell 5,000 iced drinks (0/5000). Reward: Locked.]
Chu Jiangyue almost choked.
Selling 5,000 cups in three days? The hotel was deliberately making things hard for her.
The Jianglin Hotel’s guests weren’t that many. Compared to Base B, it was tiny.
Even if she counted the residents of Shengshi Huadu, reaching 5,000 cups in three days would be tough.
Unless she got lucky and found another large group of students or survivors.
But that kind of luck couldn’t be forced. They had already scoured most hiding places nearby.
Finding more survivors meant searching farther out.
Frowning at the sudden headache, she drew attention.
“What’s wrong?”
Granny Hua immediately noticed her mood shift.
“Nothing, just thinking of some things. Don’t worry.”
To complete the task, she couldn’t do it alone. She’d have to rely on Song Chengjun pulling more people from the base.
First-time visitors to Jianglin Hotel were always prone to impulse spending.
After finishing lunch with Granny Hua, Chu Jiangyue went to find him.
She found him as he was organizing those who hadn’t secured rooms, preparing to escort them back to Base B.
Seeing her, he greeted naturally, “Boss Chu.”
“Captain Song, the restaurant has a new iced drink. I wonder if you’ve heard about it?”
Looking at his busy, exhausted figure, Chu Jiangyue gave him a sympathetic glance.
