Unfortunately, as they say, trouble often follows praise.
Before she finished speaking, Pei Shi’s hand trembled. Not only did the apple peel snap, but the knife also sliced into his other hand, causing blood to gush out. Pei Shi’s handsome hand was instantly marred.
“Honey! Are you okay?” Bai Tao was genuinely nervous now. She had quickly gotten into the role, and at first, calling Pei Shi “honey” had felt a bit awkward, but now it flowed naturally. She looked at Pei Shi with a face full of self-blame. “I shouldn’t have let you peel the apple. You must have been too busy with work these past few days, right? You can’t afford to be distracted even when peeling apples!”
Pei Shi might have been injured as a result of his hand’s reaction. He stood up from the chair in response, but even at this moment, he prioritized Bai Tao, looking at her seriously. “Are you… really okay?”
What could be wrong? Wasn’t it just an apple that flew out of his hand?
This man really loves her! Even with his hand in that condition, his first reaction was to worry that she might be upset because she didn’t get to eat the apple!
“I’m fine, honey, but are you…”
Once he heard that she was okay, Pei Shi remembered himself. He averted his gaze and walked out of the room without saying another word. His gaze was deep, and his expression was somewhat peculiar. He walked briskly, leaving Bai Tao wanting to say more.
Huh?
Bai Tao reviewed her reaction just now, reflecting on herself. Her loving husband was injured, and her reaction was like that? Look at Pei Shi! His first thought wasn’t about his bleeding hand but whether she would be unhappy for not getting to eat the apple!
What is love? This is love!
Comparing the two, Bai Tao felt she had been too plain in her response. When Pei Shi returned later, she resolved to take things more seriously!

At that moment, Pei Shi was indeed almost neglecting his own wound. While instructing the nurse to bandage him, he also called Bai Tao’s attending physician.
“My wife’s condition seems off.”
Though Pei Shi’s statement was simple, his deep voice carried a hint of subdued inquiry.
The attending physician was keen to survive, promptly presenting Bai Tao’s full medical examination data. “Mr. Pei, here are Mrs. Pei’s test results. Her body is perfectly fine despite the accident. The car performed well, and the airbags deployed quickly, resulting in no major injuries. We’ve conducted multiple tests since she woke up, and her behavior and responses have been completely normal. What exactly seems off to you? Has Mrs. Pei exhibited any unusual behavior?”
Unusual? Everything was unusual.
Pei Shi pursed his lips, recalling Bai Tao’s flirtatious gaze and calling him “honey” just now. He felt a chill down his spine, but there were many things he couldn’t disclose publicly, even to the doctor. So, he simply said, “There might be some issues with her perception of certain things.”
“Oh, I see!” The attending physician sighed with relief. “That’s normal. Mrs. Pei has suffered a minor concussion, and such sudden accidents can indeed lead to some reactive symptoms, such as slight memory distortion, temporary alterations in time perception, and logic.”
“Memory distortion?”
“Yes.” The physician reassured Pei Shi, “However, these symptoms won’t last long and don’t require treatment. With adequate rest, they should resolve. Some patients with more severe symptoms may experience significant anxiety and heightened vigilance due to memory confusion, but Mrs. Pei doesn’t exhibit any of these issues, so it’s not a major concern. It’s likely just a bit of confusion regarding some minor details…”
The more Pei Shi listened, the tighter his brow furrowed. “What has she been doing since she woke up? No unusual behavior?”
The nurse currently bandaging Pei Tao’s hand was responsible for Bai Tao’s ward. She was a new intern this year and answered energetically, “Nothing unusual, just playing on her phone for quite a while.”
“On her phone? Playing games?”
“No, she was reading the news the whole time!” The young nurse looked at Pei Shi with admiration. “She was reading and laughing while flipping through news articles about your loving relationship. She even teared up reading some interviews! She kept murmuring that she didn’t expect you to love her so much! Your… your relationship is really wonderful!” The young nurse added with courage, “I wish you both happiness!”
“…”

Pei Shi felt his head ache. He waved goodbye to the doctor and the nurse, then called his assistant, Yuan Mu. “Collect all the news reports about me and Bai Tao and send them to me.”
Yuan Mu had been with Pei Shi for many years, known for honesty, reliability, and strong work ethic. In no time, he compiled and sent all the news reports to Pei Shi.
Two minutes later, Pei Shi sat in the VIP waiting area, opening these reports. The first one hit him like a thunderbolt:
“Slashing wrists for love, devoted Pei Shi unveils the truth behind those humble love pleas!”
…When did he ever slash his wrists?
Suppressing his emotions, Pei Shi closed that article and clicked on the next one:
“Cold outside, passionate inside, you must know these two or three things about CEO Pei Shi’s endless love for Bai Tao!”
This article claimed to have Pei Shi’s personal approval to ensure accuracy. However, its actual content read like a poorly written romantic novel, claiming Pei Shi bought a multi-billion-dollar jewelry mine in South Africa for Bai Tao and purchased a dessert production line because she liked a certain brand of sweets. Pei Shi felt like the portrayal in the article made him look like a brain-dead fool.
Of course, he did acquire the jewelry mine and the dessert production line, but those were strategic investments for his family’s business, unrelated to Bai Tao in any personal capacity.
But the only fortunate thing was that this article didn’t exaggerate by claiming he slashed his wrists for love…
“For his wife, Pei Shi openly declares that his favorite color is white and his favorite fruit is peaches.”
Great.
Pei Shi’s least favorite color is actually white because it gets dirty easily, and his least favorite fruit is peaches because they’re too sweet.
