Volume 1 Chapter 6: Forced Kiss
Shi Jianchuan thought he heard the sound of the moon falling into his arms.
He didn’t respond to Qin Ya, nor did he remember how he left the hospital.
He thought to himself—he could no longer distinguish between hallucination and reality.
And that was fine.
He consulted several specialists overnight.
Even experts from abroad were summoned to review Qin Ya’s medical records.
Almost all of them said the same thing: the brain’s neural system was too complex, and the slightest disturbance could affect everything. No one could predict when Qin Ya would regain her memories.
Perhaps once the hematoma dissipated, she would remember. Or perhaps she might never remember at all.
The treatment plans they proposed were similar—expose her to familiar things.
Maybe, slowly, she would recall.
Shi Jianchuan listened calmly. “Aside from amnesia, are there any other effects?”
“Based on the examination results, her body is functioning normally. The main issue lies in the brain. The damage to the brain tissue prevents it from integrating and storing complete information. In this state, the brain’s functions remain disordered. However, given the complexity of the brain, we can’t give you a definitive answer.”
Shi Jianchuan thanked them.
He toyed with his phone for a moment.
Finally, he called his assistant.
“Tan Xiu, there’s something I need you to handle.”
He issued his instructions calmly, having already devised a complete solution in that short span of time.
He sat in their newlywed room—a wedding gift Qin Ya’s father had prepared for her before his passing.
Most of their shared memories were here.
Shi Jianchuan gazed at the bustling traffic below, the corners of his lips lifting slightly.
He exhaled softly. “Ha.”
His eyes were unfathomably deep.
*
Qin Ya had been waiting for Shi Jianchuan since early morning.
The man who had promised to pick her up from the hospital was running late.
From 8 a.m., she had been bombarding Shi Jianchuan with messages.
**[Hubby, where are you? I’m about to check out.]**
**[Bring me breakfast when you come.]**
**[The patient next door had shrimp dumplings for breakfast—they looked delicious.]**
**[Where are you? It’s almost 9!]**
When he didn’t reply, Qin Ya started calling.
The phone rang a few times before being hung up.
A moment later, Shi Jianchuan sent a message.
**[Busy. Wait.]**
Qin Ya tossed her phone aside. “So cold. No wonder we’re a fake couple.”
Checking out wasn’t complicated. Qin Ya finished in ten minutes.
She even got a refund of a few thousand yuan, which she happily tucked into her personal savings.
Shi Jianchuan might have been forced into marrying her and subjected to her whims, but he wasn’t a bad person—he’d even remembered to pay her medical bills.
He wouldn’t actually abandon her.
That was all Qin Ya needed to know.
After completing the discharge procedures, she stood at the hospital entrance and took a selfie with her phone.
She lowered her phone to examine the photo—the woman in the picture had a small bandage on her forehead, bright eyes, and pearly teeth, her gaze lively and captivating. Her doe eyes added to her charm.
Slender waist, long legs.
“Perfect. As expected of me. Shi Jianchuan really lucked out.”
She sent the photo to Shi Jianchuan, then pressed the voice message button.
Her voice was sweet, as if dripping with honey.
“Hubby, I’ve finished checking out. I’m waiting for you at the hospital entrance. No rush—I’ll be fine on my own. I can handle being hungry for a while. You go ahead and focus on your work.”
Soft and sweet, Qin Ya listened to her own voice again, feeling so sugary it made her head spin.
Shi Jianchuan replied faster this time than before.
[Wait, the assistant is coming to pick you up.]
Qin Ya wasn’t entirely satisfied with this outcome, but she felt she had grasped a hint of Shi Jianchuan’s preferences.
Using the same tone as before, she sent another voice message.
“Alright, then I’ll go home first and wait for you.”
“What would you like to eat?”
Even sweeter than before.
So sweet that Qin Ya herself could hardly stand it.
Shi Jianchuan replied, [There’s a housekeeper at home. No need for you to cook.]
“Got it.”
Qin Ya turned off her phone and scoffed, “Hmph, men.”
She had been so foolish before. Forcing things never worked—she had pushed Shi Jianchuan into doing so much, only to drive him further away. How stupid.
If only she had used this tactic sooner.
Qin Ya waited less than two minutes before the car arrived to pick her up.
The person who came was dressed in a crisp suit, wearing a pair of non-prescription glasses.
Tan Xiu opened the car door. “President Qin, please.”
Qin Ya was the head of Qin Corporation. Even though she couldn’t remember anything, being addressed as “President Qin” wasn’t wrong.
His attitude, so different from that of the previous assistant, put Qin Ya in a good mood.
She elegantly took her seat in the back and gave Tan Xiu a slight nod. “Thank you. Let’s go.”
As he drove, Tan Xiu calmly introduced himself. “Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Tan Xiu, and I’m Assistant to President Shi.”
Qin Ya nodded to show she had taken note.
Tan Xiu wasn’t talkative. He simply outlined his basic duties and mentioned that Qin Ya was also his direct superior—she could call him anytime if she needed anything.
Qin Ya said, “Tell me about my past with Shi Jianchuan.”
She was genuinely curious. Shi Jianchuan had brushed her off with just a few words, which only made her… even more curious.
What had she been like in the past? And what about Shi Jianchuan?
Tan Xiu replied, “President Shi values privacy. We don’t know much about the matters between you and him.”
“Just tell me what you do know.”
Tan Xiu organized his thoughts. “President Shi was personally selected by you as a beneficiary.”
Qin Ya’s curiosity was instantly piqued, and she sat up straighter. “And then?”
“President Shi and the other beneficiaries would report their academic progress once a year at Qin Manor. You met a few times.”
“Further contact likely occurred during your university years.” Tan Xiu paused, looking as if he had more to say but was holding back.
Qin Ya waited for him to continue. “Go ahead. I won’t tell Shi Jianchuan.”
“I’m not entirely sure what happened between you and Shi Jianchuan during university, but there was a photo that went viral at your alma mater.”
“You can probably still find it if you search the campus forum now.”
Tan Xiu stopped there, not elaborating further.
But he had successfully stirred Qin Ya’s curiosity. The fact that she and Shi Jianchuan had attended the same university had long been dug up by gossip media.
According to tabloid reports, the Qin Family had deliberately placed their sponsored students in Hua University, where Qin Ya studied, to scout for potential sons-in-law.
Qin Ya searched for Hua University, entered the campus forum, and typed in her and Shi Jianchuan’s names.
Instantly, dozens of trending topics popped up.
The top post had thousands of replies.
[Shocking! Qin Family’s Eldest Daughter Pins the Campus Heartthrob Against a Wall and Kisses Him Outside the Men’s Restroom!]
The accompanying photo left no doubt—it was indeed her and Shi Jianchuan.
In the photo, she had her back to the photographer, her facial expression hidden from view. Across from her stood Shi Jianchuan, looking even more youthful than he does now.
Like fruit hanging from a branch, youthful yet tempting.
Even in the low-resolution photo, the blood at the corner of Shi Jianchuan’s lips was vividly red, strikingly bright.
