Chapter 1: So Short of Men
When An Ruoyan woke up, she felt a pair of rough hands holding her own. They were also muttering something. She wanted to open her eyes to see, but a sudden rush of memories flooded into her head, causing her to faint again in pain.
She woke up again to the sound of voices at the door.
An Ruoyan had also finished receiving the original owner’s memories and realized that she had transmigrated into a book. She had randomly picked up this book to read on her way home from working overtime, afraid that she would fall asleep.
The original owner had the same name as her and was cannon fodder who didn’t even survive the first chapter. At the time, she cursed her bad luck, but when she looked up, she saw the driver yawning, his already small eyes almost closed.
An Ruoyan was so scared that she quickly reminded him, and the driver panicked and went straight for the truck diagonally opposite. When An Ruoyan woke up, she had arrived here. The original owner had been dating Zhou Shuchen, a (scumbag), for a year and was about to get engaged when her stepsister intercepted him.
The original owner couldn’t accept it for a while and attempted suicide by hitting her head against the wall. She only wanted to scare people, but she didn’t control her strength and really died.
The voices outside the door continued, and without guessing, she knew it was the original owner’s biological mother, Huang Jinxiu, and her stepsister, Shi Meijiao. “Mom, I don’t want to go to the countryside, I want to marry Zhou Shuchen.
Go tell An Ruoyan to stop shamelessly (pestering) Brother Chen.” Huang Jinxiu hesitated: “But your sister just attempted suicide.”
Shi Meijiao snorted: “Mom, are you feeling sorry for her? Since you can’t do it, then I can only tell my dad.”
“Don’t, Meijiao, your dad is so busy with work, don’t bother him with this. When An Ruoyan wakes up, I’ll have her go to the Zhou family to call off the engagement.”
Shi Meijiao nodded in satisfaction, her tone softening as she said coquettishly, “Mom is still the best to me.” Watching Shi Meijiao return to her room, Huang Jinxiu finally relaxed, knowing that the matter was settled.
Shi Qiang loved this daughter the most, and even married her back then to take care of Shi Meijiao, so she didn’t dare to provoke her. Huang Jinxiu sighed and went to the kitchen. The outside became quiet, and An Ruoyan lay in bed tsk tsk)ing. Shi Meijiao called her “Mom” in every sentence, but there wasn’t a trace of respect in her words, yet Huang Jinxiu was like a (lapdog), licking that family.
Was this the legendary “love brain”? The original owner must have inherited it, otherwise, why would she seek death for a man? Moreover, Zhou Shuchen was a weak and pale pretty boy, it really wasn’t worth it.
An Ruoyan guessed that Huang Jinxiu would definitely come to talk about Shi Meijiao’s instructions later, so she simply didn’t get up and waited for Huang Jinxiu to come to her. She didn’t know how long had passed when the door opened. An Ruoyan, who was closing her eyes to rest, looked sharply at Huang Jinxiu at the door. She hated people entering her bedroom without knocking.
“Are you so old and you still don’t know how to knock?” Huang Jinxiu was startled by her gaze and stopped in her tracks. She suspected that An Ruoyan had heard something, otherwise, how could she, who had always been weak and easy to bully, suddenly become so scary.
She coughed lightly to cover up her guilty conscience: “Wasn’t I holding the porridge and didn’t have a free hand? You child, Mom used to come in like this before, why are you reacting so strongly?” “You also said that was before.
In the future, you can’t enter my room without my permission.” “Okay, okay.” Thinking of what Shi Meijiao said, Huang Jinxiu endured the discomfort in her heart. “Mom cooked porridge for you, get up and drink it quickly.
” An Ruoyan took the bowl, looking at the thick rice porridge inside, thinking that Huang Jinxiu had really gone all out. She couldn’t let her down, so she immediately started eating. Huang Jinxiu swallowed, feeling a blockage in her heart. In the past, she would also make delicious food for An Ruoyan alone, and then watch eagerly from the side, saying how she couldn’t bear to eat or wear good things, how bitter she was.
In the end, those things would all go into her stomach, and An Ruoyan would help her bear the reputation of being gluttonous.
This time, she actually started eating by herself, not even letting her have any, she had really doted on this worthless thing for nothing. “Ruoyan, after you eat, go tell Zhou Shuchen to break up. You can’t eat the Shi family’s food and still steal someone else’s fiancĂ©. You can’t be so heartless.” An Ruoyan raised her eyelids.
Of course, she wanted to dump the (scumbag), but that didn’t stop her from making things difficult for people. “Mom, what are you talking about? I’ve been dating Shuchen for a year, and my sister has only known him for a month. How did it become me stealing my sister’s fiancĂ©?” An Ruoyan was fair-skinned and beautiful, with a soft and (glutinous) voice, and she was very thin because she hadn’t eaten well for many years.
When she spoke, she made people feel pity. But Huang Jinxiu didn’t think so. If An Ruoyan was a son, or a shrew who could stand up for her, she wouldn’t need to please Shi Meijiao.
Looking at An Ruoyan eating so deliciously, and finishing a bowl of porridge in a short while, she disliked her even more: “I’m telling you to go, so go. Zhou Shuchen and Jiaojiao are truly in love. You’re interfering between them, being someone’s mistress.
Are you that desperate for a man!” An Ruoyan drank the last mouthful of porridge and threw the bowl and spoon at Huang Jinxiu. This was because she was too close, afraid of hitting her, otherwise, she would have smashed it on her head.
“My dad just died and you married Shi Qiang. Are you that desperate for a man, or did you and Shi Qiang get together long ago?” “I remember Shi Qiang was also married at the time, right? He divorced in the morning and married you in the afternoon.
You’re a mistress who became legitimate. No wonder you like Shi Meijiao, it turns out you’re birds of a feather flock together!” Huang Jinxiu was so angry that her nose was crooked. She reached out to hit her.
An Ruoyan wasn’t afraid of her at all. If she really dared to hit her, she would dare to fight back. Moreover, she was sure that she wouldn’t be beaten. She glanced at Huang Jinxiu mockingly: “Hit me, go ahead.
If you hit me, I’ll go find Zhou Shuchen with the palm print on my face.” “Isn’t Shi Meijiao always playing the role of a weak and innocent white lotus in front of Zhou Shuchen? I’m going to make her persona collapse.”
Huang Jinxiu put down her hand awkwardly: “Ruoyan, you’re not as capable as Jiaojiao, able to make Zhou Shuchen like you. Even if you marry into the family, you won’t have a good life. It’s better to take a step back take the initiative to step back, so that Mom’s status in the Shi family can rise further.
” An Ruoyan admitted that some of Huang Jinxiu’s words were right, but Huang Jinxiu was indeed selfish. No matter what, she always thought of herself first. An Ruoyan also felt unworthy for the original owner.
She thought she had always been well-behaved and sensible, only resisting this once, wanting Huang Jinxiu to feel sorry for her, but obviously, this person was heartless.
Seeing that she hadn’t spoken, Huang Jinxiu couldn’t wait to ask: “When are you going?”
