Chapter 18: I Thought She Was a Widow
Luo Mingzhong followed closely behind.
When he arrived at the door of the ward, Dr. Li noticed him and asked, “Do you need something?”
Luo Mingzhong was puzzled, “No.”
“If you don’t need anything, what are you standing at my door for? Wait until this patient’s stitches are removed before you come in.”
Luo Mingzhong frowned, and then realized that Dr. Li didn’t recognize him.
“I’m her husband.”
Dr. Li, holding scissors and forceps, was stunned when he heard this.
Her husband?
Immediately, Dr. Li couldn’t help but laugh.
“I’m sorry, I really couldn’t tell. I thought you were strangers.
Your wife was on the verge of death a while ago, and you didn’t even show your face. I thought she was a widow.”
As soon as these words were spoken, even Dr. Li paused. It was a bit sarcastic.
Realizing this, he calmly explained, “I’m sorry, slip of the tongue.”
Luo Mingzhong was furious. He was a doctor who saved lives. If it weren’t for his uniform, he would have wanted to punch him.
As Dr. Li cut open the bandage on Jiang Mingyue’s wrist, Luo Mingzhong saw the angular, reddish scar and his body stiffened.
Didn’t Wen Ning say that she wasn’t seriously injured, just a scratch? Why was the cut so deep?
That day, he rushed into the ward and reached out to squeeze her wrist without being prepared. Her face changed at the time, and he thought she was faking it.
It seemed that she was really seriously injured.
Jiang Mingyue turned her head away as Dr. Li removed the stitches. It was done in less than a minute.
Although removing the stitches wasn’t very painful, she didn’t even frown. She looked like she didn’t feel anything.
If it was before, she would have run to him and talked about it endlessly if she had been injured anywhere.
But now…
She was so quiet, and it was like they were strangers.
Dr. Li instructed, “Okay, try not to use too much force after you go back.”
“Thank you, Dr. Li.”
The two of them came out of the clinic, and Luo Mingzhong strode to catch up.
“Why didn’t you say anything before?”
Jiang Mingyue acted as if she didn’t hear him.
Fortunately, the child’s cold and fever were just a false alarm, and her temperature had already gone down.
Well, she would talk about the divorce after the child was discharged.
Xiaoxue usually went to the nursery next to the compound, but she hadn’t been there for several days.
Once the divorce was finalized, she would immediately move her household registration back to her parents’ home. She had to get Xiaoxue into school as soon as possible.
The old lady said, “Mingzhong, your mother and I will take the bus back. You stay and accompany Xiaoxue.
When Xiaoxue feels better in the afternoon, you come back together.”
Before Luo Mingzhong could open his mouth, Jiang Mingyue said firmly, “No need, I’ll take the child home in the afternoon and come to the compound again tomorrow morning.”
The old lady was an experienced person. She looked back and forth between the young couple and shook her head helplessly.
Well, she wouldn’t interfere in the children’s affairs.
If she interfered any further, she would be sorry for the care that Mingyue had given her over the years.
Luo Mingzhong squatted down and reached out to touch Xiaoxue’s forehead, but the child dodged him.
His hand, which was outstretched in the air, stiffened slightly, and he retracted it and squatted in front of the hospital bed, asking, “Xiaoxue, do you want to go home with Dad?”
Xiaoxue shook her head, snuggled into Jiang Mingyue’s arms, and her eyes looked innocent and aggrieved.
“No, Xiaodong said you’re his dad, and you love him and not me. I want to be with Mom.”
He was angry and annoyed, and he also felt a little uncomfortable.
How was Jiang Mingyue raising the child?
A burst of anger welled up in his heart.
The child was ignorant, but she was also ignorant.
Jiang Mingyue said softly, “Xiaoxue, Xiaodong is lying to you. Dad loves you.
Be good, let’s rest well first.”
Before the old lady could turn around and leave, a child’s voice came from the door of the ward.
It was Chen Xiaodong.
“Dad…”
His voice was loud and clear, and he ran in with a smile and hugged Luo Mingzhong.
Wen Ning stood at the door with an apologetic expression, “Brother Luo, I’m sorry. I felt a little dizzy and came to the hospital for a checkup. This child said he saw you and insisted on finding you. I couldn’t catch up with him.”
Luo Mingzhong reached out and patted Chen Xiaodong on the head, smiling and bending down to pick him up.
This scene was very glaring. They looked like a family of three.
Xiaoxue in Jiang Mingyue’s arms pouted and snorted coldly, turning her head away unwilling to look.
Hmph, Dad was biased. He was a big liar.
Xiaoxue felt sad and aggrieved, her eyes red, and she tightly wrapped her arms around Jiang Mingyue’s waist.
The old lady was finally about to be discharged, but she was so angered by Luo Mingzhong that she said coldly, “You didn’t go to the clinic for a checkup, but you brought the child to the inpatient department.
You said you were too dizzy to stand, so aren’t you afraid of fainting and falling to your death?”
The old lady snorted coldly and grabbed the crutch next to her, hitting the floor several times in a row.
“Luo Mingzhong, are you trying to anger me to death? Take me home now.”
Wen Ning pursed her lips and said softly with grievance, “Grandma, let me help you. Let’s go back together.”
Wen Ning took a step forward, but before her hand could touch the old lady’s arm, the old lady raised her hand and slapped her directly.
“Where did you come from, you piece of trash? Do you really think you’re something special?
Did I ask you to come? Get out of my granddaughter’s ward immediately.”
The old lady coughed twice in anger. Chen Xiaodong cried out when he saw his mother being hit.
The ward was in chaos for a while.
Luo Mingzhong said, “Grandma, don’t scare the child.”
The old lady felt her blood pressure rising rapidly. This mindless thing.
Her crutch landed heavily on Luo Mingzhong’s back this time.
Jiang Mingyue couldn’t bear it any longer and shouted, “Shut up, stop arguing, everyone get out.”
She wanted to have some peace and quiet to be with her child, but they all stuck to her like dog shit.
Wen Ning sniffled, covering her face with one hand and leading the child away with the other.
When Zhao Xuelan came back, she happened to see Luo Mingzhong’s back at the corner of the stairs.
She thought she had seen wrong.
Was he here to see the child, or to pick up the old lady?
Well, after all, Xiaoxue wasn’t his biological child, so it was a little difficult to expect him to love the child.
Over the years, Zhao Xuelan had also seen things clearly.
After Zhao Xuelan came in, she saw her daughter secretly wiping away tears, and her heart ached.
She had felt that something was wrong since this child came back. The old lady was still in the ward when she went to get the medicine, but they had disappeared when she came back.
It seemed that she was hiding something from her.
She didn’t say anything when she came in. After Jiang Mingyue coaxed the child to sleep, she pulled her aside.
“Mingyue, tell Mom, did you and Mingzhong have a fight?”
Zhao Xuelan’s voice was very soft, for fear of waking the child in the hospital bed.
Jiang Mingyue felt aggrieved and bitter in her heart, and tears couldn’t help but well up in her eyes.
She looked up, held back her tears, and threw herself into Zhao Xuelan’s arms, hugging her tightly.
“Mom, can I hug you?”
Zhao Xuelan also felt a sour sensation in her nose.
How much grievance had her child suffered?
“Yes, let you hug me. You’ll always be Mom’s daughter. Tell Mom if you have any grievances.”
Coming out of Zhao Xuelan’s arms, she wiped away her tears and said very seriously, “Mom, I’ve talked to Luo Mingzhong and we’re planning to get a divorce.”
