Yu Ning walked downstairs with her cat in her arms, while Lin Anbang was furiously scolding Lin Jun.
“Are you out of your mind? Why do you believe in all this nonsense?”
“I didn’t believe it at first, but it’s really weird—Sister-in-law! Save me!”
Seeing Yu Ning step out of the elevator, Lin Jun rushed over excitedly.
“There’s a ghost!”
“Calm down, don’t panic.” Yu Ning walked over to the sofa and greeted Lin Anbang.
“Oh, you’re still here.”
“.” Lin Anbang was furious at her.
This girl, who was so hostile to him before, making him bark like a dog, now pretends to be obedient?
“Sister-in-law! I’m scared to death! I’m haunted! Help me exorcise it!”
Lin Jun now called her sister-in-law so naturally. The more skeptical he was before, the more he groveled now.
“WeChat or Alipay?” Yu Ning took out her phone, “Don’t transfer too much, it’s clearly priced.”
“Sister-in-law, you’re truly honest and fair, the industry’s conscience!”
Lin Jun flattered her and quickly transferred the money.
Everyone in the room clearly heard the sound of a string of coins.
“Alipay transfer received: 50,000 yuan.”
“You scam for such a small amount?” Lin Anbang looked at Yu Ning with disdain.
The Lin family status means such a small amount is nothing. They’ve never seen such small sums.
“He’s a nice person, so I gave him a friendly price. If it were you, it might be several times more.”
Without the talismans, Yu Ning reverted to her sincere tone, no longer acting all high and mighty.
Lin Anbang was once again hit by her sincerity.
Lin Jun pushed him aside, focusing on the urgent matter at hand, with no time to listen to his complaints.
“Here’s what happened.”
After calling Yu Ning late at night, Lin Jun went to sleep but felt someone by his bedside halfway through the night.
He stayed at a hotel arranged by the film crew, and the conditions weren’t great. Half-asleep, he thought someone had entered the wrong room and asked who it was.
“No one answered, so I turned on the bedside lamp. There was only me in the room.”
“Were you dreaming, confused in your sleep?” Lin Anbang sneered.
“I thought the same, but after turning off the light, I saw it again! I was definitely awake.”
Recalling the scene from last night still made Lin Jun’s scalp tingle.
“A woman, without clothes, all wet, standing at the bedside smiling at me. Damn.”
“Pervert! Are you fooling around with women outside?” Lin Anbang couldn’t keep up with his son’s story.
He thought Lin Jun was just messing around with some actress.
Yu Ning frowned.
“And then?”
“Then the terrifying part! This morning, a woman’s corpse was found in the hotel room, naked in the bathtub, looking exactly like the woman I saw!”
“Hah, you must’ve watched too many horror movies.”
Lin Anbang was also a bit scared but habitually criticized his son.
Among his five sons, only the fifth had a good temper, easy to scold without any repercussions. The other four weren’t as easy to handle.
“The forensic examination showed she died two days ago. The room had a ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign, so the cleaners didn’t enter. She was discovered because of a complaint about a strange smell from the bathroom. They said she likely died of a sudden heart attack while bathing.”
“And you only came to me now?” Yu Ning frowned.
“I initially thought it was just a coincidence, a dream. I had scenes to shoot in the morning, so…”
Lin Jun finally got a role and didn’t want to miss the opportunity. He didn’t take the dream seriously and went to the set as if nothing had happened.
But then, bad luck hit.
First, he fell from the wire during a stunt, luckily landing on a cushion without breaking any bones.
Then a camera rig collapsed, nearly hitting him.
No one else on set was affected, just him.
Seeing his streak of bad luck, the director told him to take a break.
After all, he was the fifth young master of the Lin family. Regardless of his acting skills, they couldn’t afford for him to get hurt on set.
Lin Jun didn’t want to return to the hotel where the incident happened, so he stayed on set to watch the seniors act.
He sat next to the director, watching the monitor.
As he sat down, something strange happened.
Two cameras lost signal simultaneously, a situation that baffled the director.
Both machines malfunctioning at the same time was unprecedented. A group of people gathered around to troubleshoot.
Lin Jun saw the woman from his dream on the blank monitors, smiling at him.
He was so scared he nearly peed his pants, pulling the director over to look. But no one else saw her.
He fled the set in a panic.
After he left, his friends at the set messaged him.
He had just left when the equipment started working again. The director told him to go somewhere and burn some incense before coming back.
The crew believed in such things, always burning incense before shooting started.
Lin Jun remembered Yu Ning’s warning, hurriedly putting on the lightning-struck wooden bracelet she gave him.
He didn’t dare take his helicopter, opting for a rideshare.
As the car drove by the river, the driver suddenly smiled eerily at him and accelerated towards the river.
Lin Jun blocked him with his hand, shattering the wooden beads on his wrist as they touched the driver, who then snapped out of it and stopped the car.
The driver had no memory of what had just happened.
Everything Yu Ning had predicted came true.
Scared out of his wits, Lin Jun started calling her sister-in-law and begged for help.
Everyone in the room was stunned, and Lin Anbang’s face turned pale as he subconsciously looked behind Lin Jun.
He worried his son might have brought something strange back.
“This is Mount Sanqing, no evil spirits can enter.” Mrs. Lin reassured him, and he finally relaxed, though still shaken.
“Sister-in-law, what on earth is this? Why is it haunting me? I haven’t done anything wrong!” Lin Jun was almost in tears.
“I finally got a role after a long time. Will the director think I’m unlucky? Will I never get to act again? Will my rising star fall just like this…”
“You’re still thinking about this at a time like this?” Yu Ning rolled her eyes at him and addressed the bodyguards.
“Everyone else, leave.”
The bodyguards, having experienced her strength before, reluctantly left, stifling their curiosity.
“You two as well.” Yu Ning told Lin Anbang and Mrs. Lin, primarily wanting to get Mrs. Lin out of the way.
One should always be cautious with unknown people.
“What’s your attitude? Do you believe I—” Lin Anbang began to assert himself.
“You can stay if you want, but don’t blame me for what you see later.”
“Ha, as if I’d be scared by this nonsense,” Lin Anbang forced a sneer and quickly got up.
Lin Jun looked at his father leaving with Mrs. Lin in disbelief. They just left?
Not considering him at all?
