Chapter 60 – Staying Overnight

Afternoon passed in the blink of an eye, and night fell.

Qiao Duoduo reluctantly held Su Ning’s hand. “Su Ge, are you really going to stay in this desolate graveyard alone?”

“Of course. You two should go back quickly. I’ll be fine by myself.”

Su Ning waved them off, urging them to leave so they wouldn’t waste time and risk being unable to return to the city.

Watching Qiao Duoduo and Houyang’s figures fade into the distance, Su Ning silently headed toward the center of the Ghostlands. After all, for bloodline purification, she needed to choose the spot with the heaviest Yin energy and the purest demonic aura.

After walking for a while, Su Ning focused on sensing the murderous intent within her bloodline. Sure enough, she found the optimal location: a barren area, with very few ghosts around. If she hadn’t concentrated carefully, she might not have realized this was the spot with the densest Yin energy.

Su Ning pulled out her Mouse Hole Shelter and placed it on the ground. As expected, an entrance resembling a sewer manhole appeared. Su Ning thought to herself that a manhole paired with a Mouse Hole was a perfect match.

Clicking to enter, the manhole automatically opened. Su Ning climbed down the ladder about two meters and found herself in a larger cave. Another four meters down, she finally landed on the ground.

It was pitch dark.

Being underground at night, Su Ning felt a little uneasy. She bought a small wall lamp from the store and hung it near the entrance for convenience.

Following the faint light, she realized the shelter was indeed small.

But that made sense—a 4m × 4m space was just sixteen square meters. Su Ning sighed at her own overthinking. She decided to arrange the small square shelter carefully.

She invested heavily in store-bought items: a small staircase, elevated racks, turning the shelter into a loft.

Su Ning considered making a full two-story setup to maximize usable space, but with a two-meter-high ceiling, it would feel cramped. So she compromised: a 2m × 4m loft served as the bedroom with a spider-silk large bed. She would have preferred a traditional large bed, but space was too tight.

The remaining half of the loft would serve as the living area. She installed a prairie dog-themed crystal chandelier. Each small crystal lamp was shaped like a cartoon prairie dog—delightfully cute.

Su Ning wondered what fuel the chandelier used. Coal would make it dirty; lamp oil might seem mismatched—perhaps it needed electricity? After some thought, she decided on lamp oil. With 20 grams of oil, the delicate crystal chandelier cast a warm yellow light.

Underground, any light was better than total darkness.

With the loft set up with bed, stairs, and lamp, Su Ning turned to the first floor. The small space needed divisions for kitchen, living area, and bathroom. The bathroom was a top priority; the kitchen could wait since she rarely cooked. Ideally, she also wanted a workstation for sewing, but resources were limited.

While rummaging through her backpack for a simple bathroom, Su Ning unexpectedly found something valuable:

Blue-Grade: Deluxe Bathroom

Details: Originally a treasure hoarded by a hygiene-obsessed new ghost. A compact 2m × 2m bathroom with toilet, heater, hot water, wide sink for laundry, 24-hour hot water, and built-in ventilation.

Su Ning felt lucky. Though she preferred a bathtub, space was limited, so she settled for this.

She installed wallpaper, flooring, and ceiling, all automatically arranged by the system. White ceiling lights, mint-green walls, and white floors made the underground space feel like a proper home.

Adding some accordion-paper furniture, she finally had a small living room.

Once everything was set, Su Ning took a shower, marveling at how the ventilation worked underground without any visible vents. She could only assume the system was magical.

After climbing into bed, Su Ning turned her attention to bloodline purification items. Looking at the new ghost hearts in her backpack, she felt nauseated. Who could possibly swallow these raw?

She summoned the crafting system and refined the hearts. Each heart took just five seconds, producing a red pill called a Primary Magic Crystal, still faintly smelling of blood.

Without hesitation, Su Ning swallowed the crystal. It wasn’t as painful as imagined—no discomfort at all. The crystal melted instantly, flowing warmth through her body to her dantian.

Opening the panel, she saw her bloodline purity had increased from 5.08% to 5.18%. One day’s effort only gained 0.08%, or 0.01% every two hours—but one pill raised purity by 0.1%. Eating was the fastest method.

She refined whole new ghost corpses as well. Some were unrefinable because she hadn’t delivered the final blow herself. Su Ning carefully selected which to refine, despite the heartache.

After finishing these chores, Su Ning prepared to sleep.

Strange Nighttime Incident

Late at night, Su Ning was awakened by a strange sound. The shelter itself vibrated slightly. Earthquake? Impossible—everything was gamified, and natural disasters like earthquakes shouldn’t occur.

Not daring to ignore it, she climbed to the exit and peered through the small manhole. Too small a view—only the starry sky was visible.

She deployed a set of remote cameras, embedding the screens in the shelter wall. Observing the surroundings, Su Ning saw the ghosts had become agitated, attacking each other.

As more ghosts emerged from underground, the ground trembled faintly. The sounds she heard were the monsters tearing each other apart, their eyes glowing red as they extracted and devoured each other’s hearts.

The scene was hellish. Su Ning shivered, unable to move.

Gradually, the ghosts stopped clustering. Several powerful ones became solid. One ghost delivered the final blow to another, and the ghost that had devoured multiple energy cores finally evolved.
