“My master’s strength,” Yu Ning paused, “If he were still alive, conservatively speaking, he’d be among the top three in the world today. In my heart, his character is unmatched.”
As his last disciple, who was severely lagging behind, she had shamed her master.
Without the three boxes of treasures her master had left her, even a hundred of her combined wouldn’t match one of her master’s guardian spirits in combat power.
It was no wonder Uncle Bai despised her so much; even Yu Ning herself looked down on her freeloading ways.
“Given time, I might have my own guardian spirits… then I wouldn’t need to borrow my master’s.”
Yu Ning felt a bit dejected.
She was genuinely putting in effort, but just couldn’t gather enough energy. Her master always reassured her that when the opportunity came, she would break through.
But when would that opportunity come?
Currently, she was like those talentless idols on stage, not intentionally singing out of tune!
She was just… naturally untalented.
“Meow!” The black cat thought she could do it. Don’t underestimate the young; being weak now doesn’t mean staying weak forever!
“Thank you.” Yu Ning petted the black cat, feeling his sincere attempt to comfort her.
After the fight with the vengeful spirit, Yu Ning felt completely drained. She forced herself to stay alert; the task wasn’t over yet, with one final step remaining.
The devout fan spirit in the cup was still waiting for her to be sent off.
Having been pounded by Yu Ning’s guardian spirit, the vengeful spirit had become obedient, waiting quietly for Yu Ning to help her leave.
Yu Ning took out a talisman to perform the exorcism.
“Wait!” Lin Jun approached.
“What now?” Yu Ning felt her head ache at the sight of him.
If Uncle Bai hadn’t arrived quickly, everyone in the room, including the cat, would have been wiped out.
“She’s my fan, I want to hug her.”
The vengeful spirit looked horrified, shaking her head repeatedly, silently mouthing words that couldn’t be heard, but clearly showing her agitation.
Yu Ning’s mouth twitched. The spirit obviously didn’t want that. Lin Jun was adding unnecessary drama.
“Forget it.” Yu Ning feared that his hug might stir up the resentment that had just settled.
“Let me say a few words, sister-in-law. I’m really sad right now.”
Yu Ning thought for a moment and stepped aside. She still had a talisman. If Lin Jun caused trouble, she could handle it.
The vengeful spirit mouthed two words as he approached.
Though they couldn’t hear her voice, both Yu Ning and the black cat understood—she was cursing him as an idiot!
“I’m sad you died because of me. There’s nothing wrong with being a fan, and I don’t want to lecture you. I just want to say, if you have another life, take better care of yourself.” Lin Jun choked up.
The spirit, previously full of resentment, turned in surprise to look at the minor celebrity she had never paid attention to.
She thought this rich boy wasn’t even fit to tie her idol’s shoes and deserved to die for having her idol’s doll.
Yet, he was the only one in the room who understood her.
“I hope every fan who likes me can find emotional support in me, escape briefly from their troubled lives. My existence should bring you joy, not become your burden. Being a fan should be a pleasant and relaxing hobby, not your whole life, making you live so miserably. I’m sorry.” Lin Jun bowed deeply, tears streaming down his face.
The vengeful spirit closed her eyes, tears falling and turning into starlight, disappearing in the room.
“Huh? Where did she go? Did you exorcise her?” Lin Jun looked up to find the spirit gone.
Yu Ning shook her head.
“Her resentment and obsession were resolved by you. She came to terms with it and left on her own.”
“Then she—?”
“Me sending her off is like arresting a criminal. Her leaving on her own is like turning herself in. The underworld will be lenient, and it won’t affect her reincarnation. You can rest easy.”
“That’s great!” Lin Jun sighed in relief.
“You…” Yu Ning hesitated.
She actually wanted to say, wouldn’t it be nice if the vengeful spirit’s real idol was Lin Jun.
Though naïve, Lin Jun had a good character.
Such wonderful qualities in the eyes of the world couldn’t compare to a surgically enhanced face.
Lin Jun always believed that the girl’s idol was him.
It was his sincere bow that dispelled the resentment.
Lin Jun, with his genuine and kind personality, was more deserving of the spotlight than that animal-abusing idol.
“What’s wrong, sister-in-law?” Lin Jun asked, noticing her trailing off.
“Nothing. I think you’ll become a real star in the future.” Yu Ning decided to keep the truth to herself.
“You’ll also become a great master, surpassing your teacher one day!”
“Meow!” The black cat agreed!
“Yes, we both have bright futures.”
Yu Ning nodded seriously. Even if she was the weakest in her sect, she wouldn’t give up.
One day, she would break through.
With the spirit gone, Yu Ning read Lin Jun’s fortune again.
The dark spot on his Mars star had vanished, and the black aura in his fate palace had dissipated. His fortune was back.
“Sister-in-law, why are you looking at me like that? It’s making me nervous.” Lin Jun shivered.
Last time she looked at him like this, she predicted bad luck, and he ended up haunted!
This time, would she see something else wrong?
“Don’t worry… Your good days are ahead.”
Perhaps it was the merit from resolving the vengeful spirit that did some good; the previously blocked career line in Lin Jun’s wealth palace had opened a bit.
Though not completely clear, it was better than before.
“Does this mean I’ll only have a chance at breaking into the second tier by clinging to you?” Lin Jun asked dejectedly.
“Life and death are fated, marriage is tied by a red thread. Except for those, everything changes with opportunity. Do good deeds, and the road will open under your feet.”
After speaking, Yu Ning felt something was off.
“When your elder brother wakes up, I’ll return to the mountain.”
Lin Jun had been calling her sister-in-law non-stop, and Yu Ning hadn’t corrected him for his sense of security.
Now that his deadly misfortune was gone, it was time to correct the address.
“Call me Yu Ning. Although I won’t be your sister-in-law, we can still be friends.”
“Are you sure you don’t want to marry my brother?” Lin Jun was conflicted. After this incident, he had come to accept this younger sister-in-law.
“Ning Ning, think it over. My brother is super rich, handsome in a decent way. How should I describe him? Have you seen a melon that attracts flies?
If money were flies, my brother is the overly sweet melon. It’s not him seeking money; money comes to him, buzzing all around, non-stop.
I see that your line of work is dangerous. Marrying my brother, the big sweet melon, and living as a wealthy wife, isn’t that good?”
The black cat sharpened its claws, itching for a fight after not hitting the younger brother for 11 days!
“Thank you, but I have my own dreams. Marriage would be too distracting.”
Though she needed a lot of money to achieve her dreams, she wanted to earn it through her own efforts, not depend on a powerful husband.
However, being friends with a big shot and occasionally leaning on him wasn’t off the table.
Seeing her resolute attitude, Lin Jun gave up persuading her to marry his brother and decided to drop a bombshell.
