Chapter 291: She Started It (6th Update)
“I’m a dying person; what is there to consider?”
“At least in the few years before you die, you should dress beautifully. If the person you like comes back and sees you looking like a fading old woman, how could anything possibly happen?” Seeing Madam Yu’s stubbornness, Ye Wenxin couldn’t help but bring up that scumbag again.
Madam Yu’s expression changed slightly. She looked at the Beauty-Preserving Pill and still asked, “Should I just eat this directly?”
“Yeah.” Ye Wenxin nodded in agreement, then watched as Madam Yu actually put the pill into her mouth before continuing on her way. Seeing Madam Yu’s straightforwardness, Ye Wenxin felt tired and, after greeting a few merchants, went to the guest room to sleep.
Ye Wenxin slept for a whole day and only woke up when it was already dark.
Fatty and the others had already arrived at the manor, and Madam Yu was giving them a tour of the vicinity. Ye Wenxin had no intention of getting up yet, but she had already heard the hustle and bustle outside.
“Madam, it’s been a whole day, and Big Sister still hasn’t gotten up.”
“Yeah, even after doing a lot of Alchemy before, she wouldn’t normally sleep this long. Could something have happened?”
The little brothers’ worried voices finally woke Ye Wenxin up, though she herself had no issues at all. Her body was simply overwhelmed due to staying up all night, combined with the strain of intense Alchemy from the previous evening.
“She’s fine, I’ve already had the doctor check on her. She should recover by tomorrow. If you’re all really worried, take the pills Miss Wenxin has made, and promote them well. Hopefully, she can gain fame soon.” Madam Yu stopped the others from entering with just a few words, successfully diverting their attention.
Ye Wenxin had initially planned to put on airs, making it so that the Cozy Gang wouldn’t rely too much on her presence, but it seemed she had lost her chance after what Madam Yu had said.
Ye Wenxin continued lying down, but before long, she sensed the door being pushed open.
Instinctively, Ye Wenxin closed her eyes, pretending to still be asleep. Madam Yu moved quietly, placed down the food she had brought, and then walked towards Ye Wenxin.
She sat on the edge of the bed, seemingly lost in thought. Ye Wenxin felt nervous, hoping Madam Yu would leave soon. However, Madam Yu seemed entranced; just staring silently without moving.
Just as Ye Wenxin wondered how far this weird atmosphere would go, Qiao Ni’s voice came from outside the door. Madam Yu seemed startled and began to fumble around the room. Unable to find a hiding place, she finally climbed onto Ye Wenxin’s bed.
Soon after, Qiao Ni entered boldly with food in hand.
“Aw, Mother has already been here.” Seeing the extra food on the table, Qiao Ni was quite displeased. She set down the plate and walked over to Ye Wenxin. Unlike the subtle Madam Yu, Qiao Ni planted a big kiss on Ye Wenxin’s face. Ye Wenxin felt tongue-tied but had to pretend to be asleep.
If she woke up now, it would be awkward for both Madam Yu and Qiao Ni. Ye Wenxin sighed inwardly; she shouldn’t have pretended to sleep from the start. Now, she had unwittingly trapped herself in a dilemma.
“Sister Wenxin is sleeping so soundly. Should I join her for a nap?” Qiao Ni stayed for a moment but quickly grew bored. Seeing Ye Wenxin still unresponsive, a mischievous smile crept across Qiao Ni’s face.
Ye Wenxin could sense Madam Yu tensing up under the covers as if afraid Qiao Ni would discover her. But in this situation, it was impossible to stay unnoticed.
After a moment’s thought, Ye Wenxin decided to open her eyes and then gently pushed Qiao Ni’s head away.
“Sister, you’re awake!” Qiao Ni exclaimed with joy and moved to hug Ye Wenxin. Ye Wenxin didn’t avoid it, fearing Qiao Ni might notice Madam Yu behind her, and reluctantly accepted the hug.
“You little troublemaker, if I hadn’t woken up quickly, who knows what you would’ve done.” Ye Wenxin sighed inwardly, feeling helpless. But Qiao Ni paid no mind to Ye Wenxin’s frustration and continued to cuddle up to her.
Qiao Ni unreservedly acted like a spoiled child, bearing an avid gaze, entirely different from how she interacted with Madam Yu.
But Ye Wenxin was certain her own peach blossom luck hadn’t tainted Qiao Ni’s intentions in any way, which left her puzzled as to whether Qiao Ni truly had feelings for her or if the Iceborn Constitution still held sway.
“Hehehe, so why did you wake up so quickly?” Qiao Ni hugged Ye Wenxin, her dark eyes gleaming mischievously, as if she had noticed something amiss.
Ye Wenxin was terrified; if caught halfway, her relationship with Madam Yu would truly be irreparable. She pretended to lightly flick Qiao Ni’s forehead.
Qiao Ni winced from the flick, showing an aggrieved look in her eyes. Feeling a pang of guilt, Ye Wenxin gently rubbed where she had flicked, and Qiao Ni chuckled mischievously. She sat in her lap, stared at her face, and then gave her a kiss.
This time it was on the lips, her aggressive tongue trying to pry open Ye Wenxin’s defenses, as if to leave a mark in Ye Wenxin’s heart.
Ye Wenxin inwardly cringed and pressed Qiao Ni back, speaking even more helplessly: “Did your aunt teach you this?”
“Hmm, what do you think?” Qiao Ni replied vaguely, but looking at that expression, Ye Wenxin could tell that it was Liu Churan who had taught her such a low move.
Behind Ye Wenxin, Madam Yu moved slightly, grabbing Ye Wenxin’s clothes. Ye Wenxin, resigned, could only say, “I said I want to sleep. When I don’t get enough sleep, I tend to bite people.”
With that, she dropped Qiao Ni to the floor and pretended to disdainfully curl up under the blanket, completely blocking Madam Yu’s figure.
Qiao Ni was petite and naturally couldn’t see the mystery under the blanket. Seeing as Ye Wenxin seemed genuinely angry, she didn’t dare to continue being unruly and reluctantly walked towards the door, saying, “Well, when will you wake up, Sister Wenxin?”
“Tomorrow,” Ye Wenxin added.
She saw Qiao Ni’s expression of joy, before the girl finally left the room. Ye Wenxin breathed a sigh of relief, and turned to look at Madam Yu, only to find Madam Yu lying nearby, within arm’s reach.
If Ye Wenxin had moved forward just a bit, she might have kissed those lips. But none of that imagined scenario happened; Madam Yu’s cheeks were slightly red as she looked at her.
It wasn’t due to emotions but simply from being suffocated under the blanket. Her meticulously arranged hair was slightly disheveled, and she looked at Ye Wenxin with a complex expression, seemingly unsure how to express her confused feelings.
Recalling Qiao Ni’s aggressive little tongue from earlier, Ye Wenxin braced herself and explained, “She started it.”
“But you didn’t refuse, did you?” Ye Wenxin was speechless, and found that, having been kissed too many times, she had no resistance to kissing. If Madam Yu wasn’t present, she and Qiao Ni might have become a bit more familiar with each other.
