After waiting an entire day and night, Xin Ling finally got a chance on the third day when Ouyang Shaojing was not at home.
During this time, her phone had been ringing non-stop. That big-tailed wolf, after failing to get through her calls, had been harassing her with messages.
As lunchtime approached—

[Big-Tailed Wolf Cen: I accidentally made too much again today. There’s bamboo fungus chicken soup, braised perch, and hot-and-sour shredded potatoes. Baby, would you do me the honor of coming over to help me taste them?]
“……”
Xin Ling glanced at it, then resolutely set down her phone.
…Forget it.
One more look.
Just one more minute.
Just three more minutes.
!
This hateful man actually dared to shake her rock-solid resolve…
Impossible!
Xin Ling stole two more glances, then expressionlessly set down her phone again, secretly swallowing her saliva in the process.
As bedtime approached—
[Big-Tailed Wolf Cen: (Image)]
This time, there was only one picture.
Unable to resist her curiosity, Xin Ling tapped it open—
and was instantly ambushed.
The photo’s lighting was hazy and suggestive. Under the dim yellow lamp, the man reclined on a black bed, clad in a loosely draped wine-red silk robe.
Red and black intertwined. Smooth, lean muscles, sharply cut V-lines, even faint traces of lingering moisture on his skin…
It was a visual assault.
Xin Ling’s heartbeat sped up, her cheeks flaming red as she slammed her phone down onto the desk.
Shameless!
This man had no male virtue, casually sending ab photos to other girls.
As Xin Ling tried to calm herself, she picked the phone back up and reopened the chat—
only to see that the man had just retracted the photo.
Timestamp: 1 minute 59 seconds.
“……”
[Big-Tailed Wolf Cen: Baby, I’m sorry. I just meant to admire it myself, but accidentally pressed share instead of save.]
[Big-Tailed Wolf Cen: I hope it didn’t bother you?]
…
[Xin Ling: .]
And so, her eventful day came to an end.
But next door, Cen Yunan was nothing like the apologetic, cautious man from the photo and texts. Wearing proper clothes, he sat casually at the kitchen island, sipping red wine without a care.
After a while, another message came from the girl.
Another period.
Cen Yunan set down his wine glass, holding his phone close as he entered his room.
As expected, Baby cared about him. Not only had she seen his message, she had even sweetly added a period at the end.

Two days without seeing that shameless man, yet Xin Ling still felt exhausted, climbing out of bed groggy and weak.
She sluggishly washed, dressed, and was about to head out when someone knocked at her door.
Ouyang Shaojing, dressed formally, appeared at Xin Ling’s door. His brows pinched together with displeasure and disdain as he looked at her.
“Why did you get up so late?”
Late…?
Today was a rainy day. The fog outside blurred with drizzle tapping against the windowpanes, and with the curtains half-drawn, the room was dim, making her unaware that it was nearly noon.
“Ajing, is there something you need?” Xin Ling lifted a sweet smile, her round, clear eyes gazing at him without blinking.
As if she adored him beyond reason.
Ouyang Shaojing turned his gaze away. The reprimands piled up in his mind evaporated at once, leaving him only to instruct her,
“This afternoon I need to go out. Take care of Ayue for me.”
Xin Ling nodded earnestly.
“Of course.”
As expected, the male lead only came to her with business.
But this was perfect—it gave her the chance to deliver the fake medicine.
“If you dare harm her in any way, when I return, I won’t spare you!” Seeing her agree so easily, Ouyang Shaojing still warned her coldly.
“I understand, Ajing…”
The girl lowered her head, hiding her expression. From his angle, it looked as though she was hurt by his words.
He snorted softly and turned to leave.
Since it was still early, Xin Ling decided to have lunch before her task. Just as she opened her food app, a few photos popped up from a certain someone—
Yet again, dishes he had cooked himself.
Today’s menu: spicy crayfish, garlic ribs, braised eggplant…
“……”
?_?
Did this guy bug her house with surveillance cameras?
Deciding that out of sight meant out of mind, Xin Ling ruthlessly swiped away his photos and resolutely placed her takeout order.
After lunch, she slipped into her room to prepare the “fake medicine.”
As a kind, loving little angel radiating golden light, she had a cabinet full of small bottles for treating all kinds of ailments—
but none containing poison.
In the end, she crushed two vitamin tablets into fine powder, mixed them into a glass of milk, and carried it upstairs.
“What are you doing here?”
Seeing her, Tang Yue’s face darkened.
Unlike Ouyang Shaojing, she didn’t even bother to pretend, merely giving Xin Ling a sideways glare.
“I know you hate me too. Don’t bother putting on an act, Xin Ling.”
“I don’t hate you.”
Xin Ling placed the milk on her nightstand.
“Ajing asked me to bring this for you. Drink it while it’s hot.”
“Someone like you would bring me milk? Don’t tell me you’re trying to poison me?” Tang Yue’s suspicious eyes fixed on the glass of milk.
“Poison or not, wouldn’t it be useless against you?” Xin Ling smiled.
“After all, you’re a powerful angel with healing abilities.”
“That’s right. Unlike you, whose wings were cut off—now a useless cripple, still clinging to the master and refusing to leave.”
“When are you finally going to go back—”
She stopped mid-sentence, her face twisting into mocking delight.
“Oh, right, I forgot. Someone like you who’s lost her wings can never return to heaven!”
“No wonder you cling to the master. No one else wants you anymore~”
The silent room was pierced by a soft laugh. Xin Ling lifted her gaze calmly, studying her quietly.
“What are you looking at? And what are you laughing at?!” Tang Yue snapped, unable to bear that serene gaze, frustrated at why Xin Ling wasn’t angry.
Just as Tang Yue’s fury was about to boil over, Xin Ling finally spoke, her voice steady:
“Mm. I really can’t go back. But so what?”
