Chapter 1: Time-traveled, A Fridge Appeared
“Little lady, come here. Anyway, your husband is dead, so why not be with me…”
Lin Yue had just opened her eyes when she saw a man rubbing his hands together as he moved toward her.
He was grinning so hard his eyes narrowed into slits. His waxy yellow face was full of deep lines, and several of his teeth were missing.
So disgusting!
A wave of revulsion shot through Lin Yue. “Get out!”
But the voice that came out was so weak, and even as she tried to get up, her vision blurred and darkened.
Low blood sugar!
Even when she got off the bed, her legs gave out as soon as they touched the ground.
“I’ll be real good to you,” the man with yellow teeth smirked, reaching for Lin Yue’s hand.
His hand was dark, yellowed, with dirt caked under his nails.
He was about to climb onto the bed.
Get away!
Lin Yue instinctively wanted to dodge, but the moment she tried to step aside, dizziness washed over her. The weakness surging from within her body made it impossible to stand steady.
Her hands were caught easily by Yellow Teeth.
No!
Enduring the dizziness, she scanned her surroundings, desperate to stop him.
She realized she was in a dilapidated mud hut. The roof was made of straw, dripping with rainwater.
The window was covered with a paper sheet, but it had several large holes torn through, letting her see the downpour outside.
The floor was muddy and waterlogged, thick clumps of yellow clay everywhere.
At the entrance of the room, there wasn’t even a door panel.
No wonder someone could barge in during the dead of night without any effort.
Dear heavens!
Why did she end up in a place like this?!
Before she could fully process it, Yellow Teeth’s hands and face loomed in, trying to pin her down.
Suddenly, Lin Yue saw a child standing at the doorway.
“Help… help me!”
She was so weak she could only mouth the words, not voice them.
Luckily, the child understood.
He was holding a piece of firewood. Taking small steps forward, he swung it hard against Yellow Teeth’s head.
Lin Yue let out a breath of relief at the successful sneak attack.
But it didn’t last long.
Yellow Teeth clutched his head, snarling, and turned on the boy. “Damn brat, it was you?! Looking for death!”
He yanked the boy’s hair, snatched the stick from him, and began beating him savagely.
“Ah!”
The boy’s cries were weak, brittle like a dried twig about to snap, barely audible.
After only two cries, he collapsed unconscious to the ground.
Lin Yue, in that brief time, had managed to recover just a sliver of strength.
Like a battery flickering back to life at 1%, her body drew out strength in the face of mortal danger.
Escape!
She had to get out! Find someone to save them!
But she had only run a few steps when Yellow Teeth caught her.
The difference in strength between them was like an elephant against an ant.
The wet, slippery ground didn’t help.
Lin Yue was yanked back and fell to the ground, landing right beside the unconscious boy.
“Hehehe, forget it, this is even better,” Yellow Teeth sneered as he pressed down on her.
Get off!
Impossible!
How could she let this beast succeed?!
Out of the corner of her eye, Lin Yue spotted the firewood Yellow Teeth had tossed aside. Her fingers slowly reached out—
She touched it.
She grabbed it.
She lifted it.
With every ounce of strength in her body, she smashed it down on his head.
“You—!”
She hit again.
And again.
Again and again, each strike mechanical, detached, as though she wasn’t in her own body.
Only when Yellow Teeth slumped like a dead fish did she finally come back to herself.
Summoning all her remaining strength, Lin Yue crawled out from under his body.
Lin Yue reached her hand under Yellow Teeth’s nose and found no breath left.
Relief, helplessness, confusion—waves of emotions surged through her.
She crawled over to the bedside, trying to calm herself down.
At this moment, fragments of memory slowly surfaced.
This was the Dayong Dynasty, with technology and economy roughly at the level of the Ming Dynasty.
The original owner was also called Lin Yue, the only daughter of the proprietor of Tianxiang Pavilion in the imperial city.
Her mother had died giving birth to her.
Her father adored her deeply and never remarried.
But when her father fell ill and passed away, her uncle, greedy for the inheritance, secretly hired men to abduct and sell her.
She was almost sold into a brothel, but by pretending to be insane and stupid, she narrowly escaped.
Dragged to a remote mountain village, she was bought by a man.
The man’s name was Gu Cai. He had no parents, only younger siblings. He made a living hunting and treated the original Lin Yue fairly well.
But she could not bear the fall from grace, rejected him coldly, and resisted him.
So, they never truly became husband and wife.
When war broke out, Gu Cai was forced to join the army, leaving only Lin Yue with his younger siblings.
At that time, seeing them left alone, many bachelors in Huangshi Village began harboring wicked thoughts.
Lin Yue had no choice but to stay indoors all day.
But just a few days ago, news from the front line arrived—Gu Cai had died.
The men in Huangshi Village were already restless.
Only two days later, Yellow Teeth crept into her home.
Memories of his identity also surfaced in Lin Yue’s mind. He was a village loafer, idle and detestable.
But he had three older brothers and two younger brothers.
His whole family were rogues.
In a village where the more children you had, the stronger you were, and coupled with their shameless nature, most people avoided them.
Besides, everyone in Huangshi Village shared the surname Huang, while his family were outsiders.
If something happened…
Trouble!
They were not people she could afford to provoke.
She had to run!
Lin Yue turned her gaze to the frail boy on the ground—Gu Cai’s younger brother, with no proper name, simply called Dog Egg.
He was still breathing, alive.
“Sis… Sister-in-law…” At the doorway, a skinny girl of three or four peeked in.
Her dark, sallow skin made her look sickly pale. “Brother!”
Even her voice was faint and weak.
She burst into tears and threw herself on Dog Egg, but when she saw Yellow Teeth’s body, she shrank back in fright.
“Sister-in-law… what… what do we do?”
“I…” Lin Yue had just spoken when she felt her strength drain away. The energy she had used moments ago had left her body in deficit, waves of weakness overwhelming her.
She was starving.
Completely faint from hunger!
“Food…”
The little girl nodded and immediately ran to the kitchen.
When she came back, she clutched half a piece of hard, black cornbread and stuffed it into Lin Yue’s mouth. “Sister-in-law, eat.”
Lin Yue couldn’t care about anything else. She chewed it at once.
Only after regaining some strength did she notice the rancid taste in her mouth.
“What about my brother?” the girl asked, eyes brimming with tears. “Should I call Grandpa Huang?”
The boy’s upper body was bare, his injuries starkly visible—purple and green welts along his ribs, all from the firewood beating.
Fortunately, none of the wounds were fatal.
He would live.
“No, don’t.”
Grandpa Huang was the village doctor.
But everyone here was related by blood or marriage.
If he saw Yellow Teeth dead, they’d all be doomed.
Lin Yue gently patted Dog Egg’s face. “Dog Egg, wake up.”
His eyelids slowly fluttered open. Weakly, he murmured, “Sister-in-law… little sister…”
Lin Yue let out a breath of relief. “Yellow Teeth is dead. We must run. If the villagers find out, they’ll drag us to the authorities or kill us themselves.”
Dog Egg struggled to sit up, clutching his head, needing a long time to steady himself.
“Dead…” The little girl’s eyes widened, her face turning even paler. “Then what do we do?”
Lin Yue’s inherited memories told her—A widow with two young siblings, in this era, was nothing but an easy target, anyone could trample them.
A widow’s doorway invited endless gossip.
Without a man or a family to back them, surviving in this man-eating society was near impossible.
They had to find a protector.
“Do you have relatives? Where do they live?”
Just then, a vision lit up in Lin Yue’s mind—
A refrigerator.
