Chapter 9: Why Does He Only Stay One Night?
Earlier, during the confrontation, he had felt a chill all over his body. Now, as Shen Baizhou recalled it, why did he suddenly feel a flush of heat? No, he couldn’t think about it! His young body had only just calmed down…
Su Hongdou couldn’t guess what he was thinking. Her beautiful eyes sparkled with excitement as she said, “So… can I eat it without worries now?” Then, with admiration, she looked at Shen Baizhou: “Your math is really good!”
Shen Baizhou twitched at the corner of his mouth. He had lived two lifetimes and this was the first time anyone had complimented his math skills.
But Su Hongdou didn’t seem to dwell on the previous incident. Shen Baizhou relaxed and quickly picked up the plate of fried rice on the table.
“This rice is too cold. I’ll fry it again for you.”
“Okay, I’ll also go change my clothes.” Su Hongdou stood up as well.
Ten minutes later, the two of them were back at the dining table, both looking a bit awkward.
Su Hongdou had changed into a white hoodie, her smooth long hair tied neatly into a ponytail. After a few bites, she licked her soft lips and exclaimed, “Delicious! Mr. Shen, you’re really good at frying leftover rice…”
“Uh… you flatter me. You can just call me Baizhou.”
“Then you call me Hongdou. Baizhou, are you a professional chef?”
“Ah, no, no. I just cook occasionally.”
“Occasionally and it’s already this good—looks like cooking really is about talent… hmm, ‘Little Chef of Huaxia’ didn’t lie to me.”
“Uh, Hongdou, you really like anime?”
“Yes. Well… I don’t really have friends… growing up, the ones who accompanied me the most were these anime characters: Prince Pirate Siegfrid, Ninja Ludo, and Green Bean Cheng Moli! But, you must think these are childish, right…” Su Hongdou couldn’t help but pout her cherry-red lips, her gaze flickering.
“My dad also says these things are worthless…”
“How could that be? I can’t agree with him—things that can warm the heart, how can they have no value? And honestly, a lot of anime are actually deeper than brainless movies…”
“Really? You really think so?”
“Of course!”
“Baizhou, I think you’re a nice person, not like some pervert?”
“Ah?”
……
That night, they talked a lot. From manga to music, movies, and then food. For the first time in her life, Su Hongdou had spoken so much with a boy—she was almost surprised by her own talkativeness. She had always been the listener: in front of her parents, Tang Tang, and even those blind-date guys. But with Shen Baizhou, the one speaking endlessly was… herself.
Shen Baizhou was completely different from anyone else in the world. Whatever she said, he would bend slightly to listen quietly, nodding with a smile, never rushing to show how much he knew…
Yes, Su Hongdou realized she really enjoyed talking to him—and chatting with him was just so comforting!
They talked until three in the morning. Su Hongdou felt her stomach warm and her heart filled with a long-lost sense of happiness. After exchanging goodnights, she went upstairs and slept peacefully.
When she opened her eyes, it was already 10 a.m. the next day.
Going downstairs, it seemed Shen Baizhou had already left…
“Hello—” Su Hongdou called out from the room. No response.
“Baizhou?” Still no reply. He really had left.
She checked the bedroom on the first floor—everything was neatly packed. Even the two suitcases she had personally carried in were gone.
Remembering his words when he came in yesterday, “I’ll only stay one night,” Su Hongdou suddenly felt a wave of gloom. Just leave like that? Just leave like that.
She didn’t know what to do next. Go to the company, she thought. After all, she was currently in her senior-year internship. This period didn’t require her to return to school often; the focus was on her internship—managing one of her family’s many companies.
Pouting, she hastily applied some makeup, threw on some clothes, and headed to the garage. She chose a Maserati and drove off.
She drove all the way to her company—Jinxiu Media.
This company was given to her by her father, supposedly to give her some experience. But Su Hongdou had little interest in being a career-driven woman. She rarely came to this company, and when she did, she didn’t stay long.
Unlike other rich second-generation heirs, she never micromanaged the company—mainly because she was lazy. But even laziness couldn’t prevent luck; after she took over, Jinxiu Media thrived, with performance steadily climbing. It had to be said—it was a management miracle worth pondering…
She put on her sunglasses and entered the elevator. Facing the many surprised and envious gazes, she strutted her long legs to the CEO’s office on the 19th floor.
“Boss!” her assistant Liu Susu was startled by her sudden appearance. The gorgeous CEO rarely showed up, and every appearance was so unpredictable…
Overjoyed, she rushed forward with a pile of documents needing signatures and began to introduce them one by one…
“Boss, here’s the restructuring plan for the short-video project team in the Internet Department…”
“Boss, here’s the promotion approval for the Traditional Media Department.”
“Boss, here’s this month’s layoff list…”
Su Hongdou looked completely listless. Liu Susu presented each paper, and she skimmed and signed them without thinking. Her mind was still stuck on the fried rice from last night…
He only stayed one night? She thought in annoyance. Why did he only stay one night?
Distracted, Su Hongdou absentmindedly glanced out of the floor-to-ceiling glass window…
Suddenly, her eyes widened!
In the corridor outside, a handsome man in casual clothes, his hair tousled, was walking nonchalantly. Following him was a flamboyantly dressed HR lady. He slipped into the conference room across the hall…
In a flash, Su Hongdou stood up! That handsome face—she recognized him. Not only was he good at frying leftover rice, but he was also great at math!
This… this… this wasn’t Shen Baizhou?
