“Sister knows she’s wrong, please just don’t ruin Deverna! Whatever you want, Sister will give it to you!” Xu Wanting pleaded urgently.
“No! Please, don’t!” Xu Mo interjected, then smiled faintly. “A few days ago, I met Xie Bingyan and them. Guess what they said to me?”
Xu Wanting was taken aback.
Xu Mo walked over and sat on a nearby rock, gazing towards Tsinghua Garden. He picked up a dogtail grass and put it in his mouth, looking relaxed.
“Your Xu family, Xie family, they’re quite capable, quite influential—people avoid crossing paths with them! You must be capable too; handling Deverna shouldn’t be a problem!”
“We can hardly hold it down now; several factories have been shut down!” Xu Wanting exclaimed anxiously.
“That’s your own fault!” Xu Mo chuckled. “I just called a few people to keep going to Deverna headquarters! Money talks, why not take advantage of it! Also… if you really can’t handle it, the Market Department and some investigation teams from the Bureau of Industry and Commerce should move in to investigate. In short, if it’s not something good, what does bankruptcy matter?”
“Sister spent over a decade building Deverna to where it is now!” Xu Wanting argued.
“A decade! A decade ago, I was still kneeling at the orphanage begging for food, eating leftovers!” Xu Mo smiled.
Beside them, Xu Shuying spoke up, “What did Mom and them say when you met them?”
“What else could they say? Just hoping for my bankruptcy, that I’m sure to go bankrupt and such clichés, nothing surprising!” Xu Mo shrugged. “I know she might use the power of Xu or Xie family to crush me, it seems that even a tiger will eat its own cubs!”
Xu Shuying shuddered visibly.
When Xu Mo spoke those words, his tone was calm, even with a hint of amusement, unruffled and seemingly accustomed to such conversations.
But Xu Shuying understood the weight behind those words very well.
Xu Shuying had visited the orphanage many times before and had seen some videos and records. She now knew very well that Xu Mo used to frequent Xie Bingyan’s room, searching for something.
However, it seemed he couldn’t find it, perhaps never could.
Even now, when the truth was almost revealed, he still couldn’t find what he was looking for.
Or maybe, he had long stopped searching.
“It may not be what Mom meant!” After hesitating for a moment, Xu Shuying spoke, feeling a dryness in her throat.
Xu Mo looked at her and chuckled, “Then what do you think she meant? I know, Xu Shuying, I’m well aware! It’s nothing more than wanting to get rid of me, wanting to kill me! I’m very clear about that! Don’t talk about her, what about you, Xu Wanting, Xu Xuehui, aren’t you all the same? Now you come here to cry and beg for what?”
“No, it’s not like that!” Xu Wanting hastily interjected.
Xu Mo shrugged, “You’d better save your Deverna with whatever energy you have left! Don’t waste it on me! I have nothing to offer you!”
“Xu Mo, we never wished anything bad for you. We just feel it’s all our fault from before. If it weren’t for us, you wouldn’t be like this!” Xu Shuying spoke, her eyes turning red.
“Pfft!”
Xu Mo suddenly burst into laughter, laughing aloud, “Actually, it’s only now that you feel this way! That statement is really quite amusing! If I hadn’t come out from the Xu family, you probably would have been even more Cruel!”
“No, that’s not true! It couldn’t be!” Xu Shuying shook her head frantically.
Xu Mo chuckled, “Couldn’t it? Dr. Shuying, do you really think it couldn’t be? Should I strip you bare and see what you’ve done? Don’t paint yourself so innocent!”
Xu Shuying’s eyes instantly welled up with tears.
“If you’ve come to talk to me, I don’t mind chatting with you, sharing about the past and what lies ahead! But that’s all there is to it,” Xu Mo said calmly. “Go back now! You probably have a lot of things to take care of next! Many, many things to handle!”
Xu Wanting still wanted to plead with Xu Mo, but it seemed Xu Mo had no intention of engaging with them.
In a corner of Tsinghua Garden at Tsinghua University, tranquility prevailed under the clear skies. A gentle breeze swept in from afar, lifting the hem of a nearby girl’s skirt.
Xu Wanting and Xu Shuying felt a chill, unsure how to thaw the ice in Xu Mo’s heart.
Perhaps, it was no longer possible to melt it!
…
As for Xie Bingyan still causing trouble, Xu Wanting and Xu Shuying found it unbelievable. During this period, Xie Bingyan’s hair had turned considerably white.
However, expecting her to admit fault seemed impossible; she would never admit to being wrong.
Xu Wanting and Xu Shuying felt utterly drained.
They soon left the campus and decided to visit the Xu family mansion in Beijing to see Xie Bingyan and Xu Manni, among others.
Halfway through their journey by car, a news alert popped up on their phones.
“Stepping down from the rapids, a hero’s farewell! Xu Mo, founder of Little Monster Bike, shows incredible courage, sells little monster Bike’s company for a staggering 12 billion, making a 5 billion profit, exits triumphantly!”
Xu Wanting and Xu Shuying froze, shocked.
Xu Mo sold the company?
How could this be possible?
She immediately checked her phone and found that the news came from a major media outlet, indicating that the acquisition was by the Ali Group.
Xu Wanting and Xu Shuying were stunned.
They knew how crucial Little Monster Bike was to Xu Mo—it was practically his brainchild, having grown into a phenomenon that caused a global sensation. Major media outlets and corporations praised this economic model because bike-sharing significantly enhanced social interactions and the confidence of the Chinese people.
Logically, in the booming era of web based sharing economies, Xu Mo shouldn’t have sold the company. However, the news now confirmed that the transaction had been completed two months prior.
“Xu Mo… what is he doing? Doesn’t he want to run a business anymore?” Xu Shuying couldn’t comprehend.
But Xu Wanting seemed to realize something and her eyes welled up with tears.
Xu Shuying was confused, “Could it be… he sensed a crisis, and… Mom asked the Xie family… to intervene?”
Xu Wanting remained silent, sniffing quietly.
Seeing this, Xu Shuying felt she was close to the truth. Suddenly, she felt an icy chill run through her body.
“A few days ago, Mom met with Xu Mo. What did Mom actually say?”
Xu Shuying didn’t know, so she urged the driver to speed up and get to the Xu family mansion as quickly as possible.
Xie Bingyan still lived in the Xu family mansion in Beijing and hadn’t left.
Due to work commitments, Xu Manni was staying in Beijing for filming, so she lived there as well. Additionally, Xu Pandi had been handling cases in Beijing recently.
There were several servants in the Beijing mansion, so it wasn’t empty.
When Xu Wanting and Xu Shuying arrived at the mansion, they found Xu Junzhe and Xu Manni, among others, at home.
“Sisters, what brings you here?” Xu Manni was surprised to see them.
Xu Shuying immediately noticed Xie Bingyan sitting not far away on the sofa, with a stack of documents on the table that seemed to be Xu Junzhe’s proposal for electric bike-sharing.
They appeared to have just been discussing something important.
“Just came up to see Mom! What were you discussing?” Xu Shuying asked.
Xu Manni sighed, “What else could we discuss? It’s about financing. Because of Xu Mo, Junzhe’s electric bike-sharing project’s financing fell through!”
“It’s all Xu Mo’s fault! At the investor banquet, he criticized Junzhe’s project, scaring away many investors! Now he’s out for revenge against us!” Xu Pandi added.
She had invested heavily in Xu Junzhe and hoped to see a return on her investment!
