Chapter 20: Children are so pure that they cannot see dirty things

Su Nan groped her way to the bed and felt firm abs.  So this is what it feels like to touch a man’s abs. No wonder so many women want a man with 4-8 pack abs. If the light had been on, Su Nan would have blushed. But it was dark, so she touched them a little longer before reluctantly pulling her hand away.

  It almost made Song Chunfeng laugh. Su Nan lay down beside him, her back hitting something hard. She let out a soft cry, but Ye Hong’s loud voice completely covered hers. “It’s something Big Brother and Sister-in-law prepared for us.” Su Nan grabbed some red dates, peanuts, and longans.  Before she could ask Song Chunfeng if he wanted some, her mouth was covered. This… was too sudden!

She had always wondered if couples talked before their wedding night to ease the awkwardness. Now she thought talking would have been even more awkward. Her mind was a blank.  Pain jolted her awake, and she angrily grabbed Song Chunfeng’s back. She remembered reading ancient romance novels where the protagonists had multiple intimate encounters on their wedding night.  She wondered if the female leads in those novels had no pain receptors? How could they have multiple encounters when it hurt so much? “Sleep.” Song Chunfeng’s voice, low and murmuring, reached Su Nan’s ears, making her feel a pleasant tingle. Su Nan unknowingly fell asleep.

 Su Nan slept until dawn. Song Chunfeng was gone when she woke up. As soon as Su Nan stood up, she felt excruciating pain between her legs. Gritting her teeth, she straightened up, took her washbasin and toiletries, and went out to brush her teeth and wash her face. He Xiaomei saw Su Nan and smiled, “Chunfeng asked me to tell you he went to buy groceries. He’s hosting a wedding banquet in our compound today.”

 “Okay.” “I understand, Sister-in-law.” Su Nan touched Qingdai’s face, suddenly remembering something, and went back to her room to get the red dates, peanuts, and longans, feeding them all to Qingdai. “Auntie will buy you candy later.

” Su Nan remembered to buy some wedding candy for the family. “Qingdai loves Da Bai Tu milk candy the most, Auntie, can you buy me Da Bai Tu milk candy?” “Of course!” Su Nan agreed without hesitation, confident in her writing earnings. While Su Nan was with Qingdai, He Xiaomei brought out a bowl of brown sugar egg water. “Xiaonuan, drink some sugar water, it’ll make you feel better.

” As a woman, she understood the awkwardness and discomfort after the wedding night. Su Nan didn’t stand on ceremony, “Thank you, Sister-in-law.” She finished the two eggs before drinking the rest of the sugar water.

Li Tiantian rubbed her eyes sourly, “Just the second day after moving in, and you’re going to finish all the eggs in the house?” Su Nan didn’t indulge her, asking, “Did you earn these eggs?” Li Tiantian pouted, “It’s fine as long as you didn’t earn them.

” Su Nan said leisurely, “I’m the Song family’s daughter-in-law, what’s wrong with me eating two of their eggs?” “My husband earns so much a month, eating a few more eggs isn’t a problem.” Su Nan looked down at Li Tiantian, “But you, what are you to them?” “You eat, drink, and sleep here for free, and you still dare to say something about me?” Li Tiantian’s anger flared. She was speechless for a moment, finally managing to squeeze out a sentence, “You wait!” One day, she would make her regret this!

After confronting Li Tiantian, Su Nan gently said to Song Qingdai, “Let’s go, Second Auntie will take you to the supply and marketing cooperative to buy Da Bai Tu milk candy!” Su Nan didn’t know the supply and marketing cooperative, but a group of children led her there.  She bought a jin of Da Bai Tu milk candy and a jin of fruit candy, giving each child who led her a few fruit candies.

 The rest was carried by Song Qingdai, making the other children envious. They wished they had such a second aunt! “Qingdai, I envy you, your Second Auntie is much better than my Second Auntie, my Second Auntie only fights with me for candy!” a boy with dark eyes said. Later, Su Nan learned that the boy’s second aunt was Chen Xiulan. Chen Xiulan’s husband’s surname was Nie, and they had two sons.

The eldest son, Nie Dongsheng, had three children: two older daughters around 10 years old, and a youngest son, Nie Bao, who was only five, a baby they had prayed for. Although the Nie family was large, they only had a two-bedroom apartment.

The eldest and second sons each lived in one room, and a small room was partitioned off in the living room for the elderly.

The limited space was one reason why the Nie family often quarreled. Su Nan stood with Yao Ying for a while and learned all this. If it weren’t for the cries from Ye Hong’s side, she could have learned even more.

 “Your cheap mother-in-law is making trouble again.” “She wants you to help her get out of bed!” Su Nan thought she could help break Ye Hong’s legs, but nothing else.  They entered the Song family’s house and heard Li Tiantian say, “Quickly take my mother to the hospital.” “My mother is going to die!” Su Nan didn’t move.

Yao Ying boldly peeked inside and exclaimed, “Too shocking!” “I need to wash my eyes!” “Su Nan, you shouldn’t see this disgusting scene, you’re too young.”

Li Tiantian said indignantly, “How can you be so heartless?” “If my mother gets hurt, you’re all responsible!” Su Nan searched her memory; was failing to rescue someone a crime? No, at most, she would face moral condemnation.

  She didn’t care and took Qingdai out, “Let’s go, children are so pure, they shouldn’t see such things.” Su Nan had thought it over; the Song family had so many people, it wasn’t up to her, a newlywed daughter-in-law, to take her mother-in-law to the hospital. Besides, anything she could do, Li Tiantian could also do.

 Ye Hong wasn’t her mother; why should she take care of Li Tiantian? Li Tiantian stomped her foot anxiously, calling out, “Mom!” “Can you hear me?” Ye Hong’s eyes were swollen from crying, she pointed at her lower body, “It hurts so much down there.” “I’m telling you to take her to the hospital!” “Mom, hold on!” In the end, Song Tongzhou carried Ye Hong to the hospital.

 She reportedly had a severe vaginal tear and needed stitches. The incident spread throughout the compound, becoming a source of gossip, making Song Tongzhou and Ye Hong too ashamed to raise their heads for half a month. That’s a story for another time.  Meanwhile, Song Chunfeng and Song Chuntian bought a lot of groceries.

 Groups of people from each household came to help pick vegetables, wash vegetables, and cook—it was lively. The children played nearby, happily saying, “We’re having meat today!” And they were.

 There was a cage of chickens in the courtyard, and two white ducks outside the cage.  No one knew where the Song brothers got them; the butcher shop didn’t sell live chickens or ducks.
