Chapter 6 I don’t believe in promises, I only look at actions

Ye Hong and Li Tiantian’s faces turned the color of pig liver at Song Chunfeng’s words, wishing they could find a crack in the earth to hide in. Everyone knew that Song Chunfeng hadn’t been home for so many years, harboring resentment towards his father’s remarriage, but they didn’t know it was this intense. 

Thinking about it, his feelings were understandable. The house was a three-bedroom, one-living room, with a kitchen and bathroom. After his family moved in, they partitioned off a small room in the living room for Song Chunxiao. When the rooms were initially assigned, it was because his parents were both working, so they were given such a large house.  In other words, half of the house belonged to Song Chunfeng’s mother.

 Now that his mother had passed away, his father remarried and brought a stepdaughter home. The problem was that Song Chunxiao’s room was already small, adding another person wasn’t feasible, so the stepdaughter was temporarily put in his second son’s room. 

And so, the room-occupying incident caused Song Chunfeng to explode.  It was all Song Tongzhou’s fault. He already had a son and a daughter, yet he took in another stepdaughter, which was disheartening for his own children. “I only have one daughter, naturally, wherever I go, she goes.” “You’re making things so embarrassing.” Ye Hong said, not forgetting to squeeze out a few crocodile tears, looking utterly wronged.

 Song Chunfeng didn’t fall for it, “She can go wherever she wants, but it’s not my home, and she certainly shouldn’t be in my room!” Li Tiantian wished she were deaf and couldn’t hear these words. Every word was a humiliation, making her ashamed. Song Chunfeng quickly explained to Su Nan, “I just came back from the army and found this woman in my room. Don’t worry, I won’t touch the pillows and blankets she’s touched.

” Song Chunfeng had already heard Su Nan’s accusations in the room, and there was only one unfamiliar face here, so he confirmed that the woman in front of him was his fiancée, Su Nan. He was a little surprised, because from his father’s description, Su Nan was lazy, dark, ugly, and arrogant. His father had repeatedly asked him to break off the engagement, but he had always refused to compromise.

 The marriage was arranged by his mother and Su Nan’s mother, who were good friends, and their wish was to become relatives. “It’s okay.” Su Nan smiled faintly, casually surveying Song Chunfeng. His features were exceptionally good, reserved yet noble, with a refined temperament. “I’m here to break off the engagement.” No matter how good-looking Song Chunfeng was, it didn’t affect Su Nan’s decision to break off the engagement. Since she transmigrated to this world a year ago, she had been clear about her goal: to become strong and leave her original family.

  For the past year, she had been running, exercising, beating her stepmother, kicking her scumbag father, writing and earning money, all for the day she could leave them far behind.  This way, she wouldn’t have to lock her door tightly every night before going to bed, nor would she be startled by every little sound. Her wish was simple: to survive, to live well.  Clearly, Song Chunfeng’s family couldn’t fulfill her wish. If she married into it, she would have to face a cunning and scheming mother-in-law, a younger sister-in-law who secretly loved her husband and wanted to break them up, and an indifferent father-in-law…

 She just wanted to find a job, settle down here or elsewhere, move her household registration, and live her own life. “What?” “You want to break off the engagement?” The excitement and joy in Ye Hong’s heart couldn’t be concealed! It was like someone handing her a pillow when she was drowsy! Su Nan was taking the initiative to break off the engagement, giving her daughter a chance! The onlookers looked at each other. Didn’t she force her way into the marriage? Why did it become a breakup? “Why?” Song Chunfeng was puzzled.

 Su Nan took out the letter of breaking off the engagement and handed it to Song Chunfeng. “Comrade Song, I’ve received the letter of breaking off the engagement. I think the procedure is not rigorous enough, and I think it’s necessary to come here and exchange the engagement certificate we had before, from now on, we’ll go our separate ways.” Song Chunfeng didn’t even look at the letter, “I never wrote any letter of breaking off the engagement.” “Comrade Su, I’ve been waiting for you to reach the marriageable age to get married.” “I came back this time to get our marriage license with you.

Ye Hong’s face was so dark it could drip water, before she could speak, she was warned by Song Chunfeng, “They dare?” Song Chunfeng looked at Su Nan and sincerely said, “Comrade Su, I promise you, after you marry me, I will absolutely not let you suffer any grievances.” “If this mother and daughter dare to make trouble, I’ll kick them all out!” Ye Hong and Li Tiantian trembled, as if if Su Nan didn’t agree, Song Chunfeng would kick them all out the next second. Su Nan remained unmoved, “I don’t believe in promises.” “I only look at actions.” She returned Song Chunfeng’s engagement certificate, “Mine, please return it to me.” “Chunfeng, return her certificate.” Song Tongzhou had already heard about today’s events on his way home from work. This Su Nan was too troublesome.

Marrying her would only cause chaos at home.

He wouldn’t agree to their marriage. “Chunfeng, return her engagement certificate.” Song Chunfeng’s older brother, Song Chuntian, advised. He, like Song Tongzhou, felt that Su Nan was too strong and too troublesome. If such a sister-in-law came into the family, if they ever had a family dispute, he wouldn’t gain any advantage. If possible, he hoped his brother would find a gentler woman as his wife. “No.” “Such a beautiful sister-in-law, how can you let the second brother break up with her?” Song Chunxiao appeared from nowhere. She was the female lead in the book.

Like Li Tiantian, she had graduated from high school this year and faced the dilemma of finding a job. If she couldn’t find a job, she would either get married or go to the countryside. None of them wanted to go to the countryside.
