A Guide to Raising a Demon Cub
A Guide to Raising a Demon Cub Chapter 28

Hilaire finally climbed the stairs with great effort. Having completed a difficult task, he stood on the second floor, happily waving at the angels below. “I made it up!”

The angels wore complex expressions, unsure what to say for a moment, feeling somewhat like they were bullying the little demon.

Lucifer took the lead up the stairs. Hilaire had already spotted his bed by then—the five-meter-long bed occupied half the second floor. The little demon’s eyes widened. “Wow!”

Even the Demon King’s Palace didn’t have such a large bed.

This bed was too big. The little demon stood beside it, forming a stark contrast with the massive bed, making him seem even smaller.

Hilaire didn’t know where to look. Finally, he turned his head and asked the angels, “Where’s my spot?”

He thought such a large bed wasn’t just for him alone. Just like in the Demon King’s Palace, usually his Demon King Papa slept with him; occasionally, when Eris wasn’t there, other demons would accompany the little demon too.

So, seeing such a large bed, Hilaire assumed he would be sleeping on it with many angels.

The Archangel’s gaze shifted, looking at the cub’s innocent eyes, feeling his conscience ache. “This bed is a bit large. We will rebuild a house suitable for Your Highness later. The furniture and decorations inside will also be redone according to Your Highness’s height and size.”

Hilaire was stunned. “Isn’t this my house?”

“We originally thought you… The dimensions of this house are all somewhat large,” the Archangel said, not wanting to bring up those rumors again.

“But… I like it here!” The little demon smiled sweetly at the angels.

Several angels who had been secretly watching him the whole way felt as if their hearts had been struck by an arrow. So… so cute!

Lucifer smiled slightly. “Since Your Highness likes it here, there’s no need to rebuild. Didn’t the demons bring many things for Prince Hilaire? There should be items he uses daily among them. We can place those inside first. If anything is missing, we can make new ones then.”

Before the Archangel could say anything, the little demon immediately nodded. “Okay!”

The three sleeping Hellhounds were placed outside the house. The angels would later need to build shelters for these three pets; after all, they hadn’t anticipated there would be pets too.

The boxes were opened one by one. Inside, there was indeed various furniture matching the little demon’s height. The angels replaced the items inside the house with these.

The Archangel, Lucifer, and several other angels helped the little demon organize his clothes on the second floor. The clothes packed in that bundle were truly bizarre.

Lucifer held up a small outfit with horns and a tail, looking thoughtful. “This outfit… is a dragon?”

Hilaire shuffled closer. “Mm! It’s a dragon! This one is new; I haven’t worn it yet.”

This was a small outfit Constans had made, imitating Bazel’s dragon form. With the hood up, it indeed looked like a little dragon, though Constans had changed the color to pale yellow, making it look even cuter.

Lucifer folded the clothes neatly and placed them in the wardrobe. “The craftsmanship is exquisite.”

Then he pulled out a fluffy little black curly-haired outfit, complete with a matching small hat with brown horns. “This is…”

Hilaire, squatting beside him, answered first, “It’s a black goat!”

“So it was made by that black goat demon?” Lucifer recalled seeing a black goat demon among the group earlier.

He made this?

These demons are quite skillful with their hands.

During their brief interaction, the Archangel had already seen that the little demon was indeed very well-behaved and obedient.

While everyone helped him unpack, he waited quietly to the side, not making noise or trouble, even occasionally coming over to ask if they were tired or thirsty, or needed a break.

Although eight out of ten times he asked Lucifer, the one or two times he showed concern was enough to make the Archangel feel gratified.

After everything was put away, the little demon’s stomach timely let out a gurgle-gurgle sound. He was hungry. Used to eating eight meals a day, he had endured for a long time today.

“Hungry,” Hilaire tugged at the Archangel’s robe, looking up at him pleadingly.

They had indeed been busy for a long time today, and it was time to take the little demon to eat.

Angels have low material desires and their diet is extremely light. The City of Light had canteens specifically responsible for providing meals. At mealtimes, angels would go to these canteens to eat, and these canteens were free of charge.

The little demon followed the angels expectantly. He wasn’t a picky eater, liked eating everything, and could eat a lot in one sitting.

Now in the angels’ territory, he was very curious about what delicious food they had here. Just thinking about eating food he had never tried before made the little demon’s tail wag happily left and right.

When taking Hilaire to his residence, because the angels were carrying his luggage, they walked very slowly. Now that things were put away, the angels walked at their usual pace, momentarily forgetting there was a short-legged little demon among them.

Hilaire found he couldn’t keep up with the angels’ speed. They walked with beautiful posture, each tall with a good physique.

One step for them was three steps for the cub. The chubby Hilaire could only trot to keep up.

Lucifer paused his steps, looked at the stubby Demon King’s son, his smile unchanged, and called out to the angels ahead, “Archangel, you’re walking too fast.”

The group of angels ahead heard him and stopped, only then noticing the little demon’s face was flushed from trotting, and he was panting heavily.

The Archangel instantly realized his negligence. He had been too mentally exhausted today. Thinking only of taking the cub to eat quickly so he himself could rest, he forgot the demon cub couldn’t keep up with their pace.

Feeling somewhat guilty, he walked over to the little demon. “I apologize, Prince Hilaire.”

“It’s okay.” Hilaire shook his head considerately, then reached out his hands towards the Archangel. “I can’t walk anymore. Hug, hug.”

The Archangel froze for a second, then, without further hesitation this time, directly picked up the little demon. Indeed, he felt as good as imagined—though substantial, he was a soft, squishy bundle. The cub even wrapped his arms around his neck.

Never having enjoyed this treatment before, the Archangel’s lips curved into a smile he could barely suppress. However, still mindful of his image, he held the soft cub, put on a stern face, and said, “Alright, everyone, walk faster.”

The other angels secretly glanced at the Archangel. Although he looked serious, they knew him too well and had clearly detected the blooming joy hidden beneath his stern exterior.

They also kind of wanted to interact with the little demon.

Angels who had never seen a cub were indeed very curious about the little demon. Initially thinking he was a terrifying, cruel adult demon, the one who arrived turned out to be a tiny little demon, looking both cute and well-behaved. Which angel could possibly resist such adorable temptation?

Only Lucifer looked straight ahead, walking past without a glance.

They didn’t put the little demon down until they reached the canteen. He looked left and right around the canteen, sniffing hard, but didn’t smell any aroma of food.

Haven’t they started cooking yet?

Because Hilaire was very short, the Archangel found a high stool for him to sit on. The little demon took out a bib from his storage pouch, wanting to tie it himself, but found his hands were too short to reach. He looked towards Lucifer sitting next to him.

Before he could even ask for help, the other reached out and helped him tie the bib.

Afterward, each angel returned to their seat holding a plate of something, and the Archangel also brought a plate over for Hilaire.

The famished little demon couldn’t wait any longer, his big golden eyes fixed intently on the plate, only to see… a plate of clear water.

Hilaire: ?

Other angels were already taking spoons and starting to drink the clear water. Looking completely bewildered, the little demon also took his spoon and scooped up some water to drink.

Do we have to drink water first before eating?

After one spoonful, the little demon realized it wasn’t plain water. It had a faint wheat fragrance, neither particularly tasty nor unpleasant. The little demon, never a picky eater, simply picked up the plate with both hands, drank the water down in one go, and then sat there waiting for the meal.

But he waited and waited, yet nothing else came. After finishing the plate of water, the other angels actually got up, preparing to leave!

Hilaire blinked puzzledly. “Where’s the food?”

Lucifer slowly sipped water with his spoon, then glanced at him. “Do you still feel hungry?”

Of course, he was hungry! He was a little demon who could eat a lot in one sitting!

Hilaire was about to answer but suddenly froze, looking down at his little tummy. His chubby belly clearly hadn’t eaten anything, yet he felt no hunger at all.

What’s going on?

The little demon was shocked.

Lucifer put down his spoon. “Because this is angel food. One plate of water is enough to satisfy hunger.”

“Then… then you guys don’t eat food?” Hilaire felt it was very strange.

He clearly hadn’t eaten anything, yet his stomach wasn’t hungry. But he still wanted to eat something, yet his stomach wasn’t hungry, but he only drank water, didn’t eat food…

The little demon fell into a tormented loop of thought.

“Mm, this is our meal. Or rather, since birth, our daily food has only been this.” Lucifer hadn’t finished the water on his plate, but he clearly didn’t intend to drink more.

Hilaire watched Lucifer casually state they always ate this and immediately looked at them with sympathy.

Angels are so pitiful! They’ve never even eaten proper food! Too tragic!

Looking at the other angels still drinking water, the little demon lowered his head and took food out from his storage pouch. It contained some snacks he loved. He had originally wanted to try angel food today, which was why he endured his hunger and didn’t take them out earlier.

“Here.” The little demon held out a red berry, offering the fruit to Lucifer.

“What is this?” Lucifer accepted the berry.

Angels are really so, so pitiful! They’ve never even seen fruit!

He continued taking out more berries, generously sharing them with the angels sitting around him, while answering, “It’s yummy! You can eat it directly.”

That wasn’t what he meant… Staring at the line-drawn face currently whimpering on the berry, Lucifer had never seen such food before.

Can this really be eaten?

The other angels were the same. The red berries had line-drawn faces, and these faces could even talk! Some were whimpering softly, some desperately crying for help, others begging to be spared.

Angels: How could we bear to eat this?

Although grateful for the little demon offering them food, was this really food? It looked more like some kind of living creature!

Demons actually eat creatures that can talk and cry like this? Truly terrifying!

The little demon, unaware of their internal struggle, popped a loudly screaming berry into his mouth. The angels then watched the little demon chew chew chew, his mouth stained with red juice.

Angels: “…”

Worthy of being the Demon King’s son. Seems those rumors weren’t entirely wrong after all.

Lucifer watched the little demon chewing while looking puzzledly at them, seemingly asking why they weren’t eating. So, he also put the whimpering berry in his hand into his mouth. The juice, bursting with fruity aroma, was sweet and rich; indeed, very delicious.

The angels looked on, unable to bear it. Even though Lucifer had also eaten a berry, they still couldn’t bring themselves to do it.

After all, their food consisted only of water boiled with grains and flowers; they had never eaten anything else, let alone food that could talk right off the bat!

One angel looked at the berry still desperately crying for help in his hand and placed it on the ground. “I won’t eat you. Run quickly.”

The berry placed on the ground continuously repeated “Help me!” while rolling away to escape.

Other angels were also moved, wanting to follow this angel’s example and release the berries in their hands.

At this moment, the Archangel, having just finished eating and gone to wash his plate, returned. He walked straight towards the little demon, then heard a squish sound under his foot, as if he had stepped on something. He lifted his foot, only to find a puddle of red juice beneath it.

The angels stared expressionlessly at the Archangel: Stare~

Archangel: “What happened? Did I step on something?”

Angel: “Archangel, you just killed an innocent life.”

Archangel: ???
