A Guide to Raising a Demon Cub
A Guide to Raising a Demon Cub Chapter 6

The little demon seemed to have already forgotten what happened before he fell asleep, smiling softly with squinted eyes.

When Lance picked him up, he lay quietly in his arms, resting his little head on Lance’s shoulder, looking somewhat groggy and blinking slowly.

Bazel and Nick stood beside them, stroking his little hands and feet.

The little one just smiled softly at them, looking incredibly well-behaved.

After a moment, the cub rubbed his cheek against Lance’s shoulder. Bode, too short to reach the cub, immediately shouted, “Baobao’s hungry! I’ll feed him!”

With that, he quickly grabbed a bowl and went to find the Hellhound. The Hellhound family was in an adjacent side hall. The female Hellhound had tried several times to grab her pups and escape, but each time she neared the exit, the demons would stare menacingly from behind, as if her life would be forfeit the moment she stepped out.

Hellhounds are highly intelligent. She couldn’t successfully escape with all three pups at once, and these demons were very strong, occasionally directing killing intent towards her and her pups. So, the female Hellhound simply gave up trying to run. Besides, these demons would even prepare food for her.

The bare-skinned little demon leaned against Lance while eating. He ate very attentively, his little tail occasionally swaying. Bode held the spoon with a tentacle to feed him. Watching him eat so much and so well, Bode couldn’t help but smile like a doting father.

Nick had bought a large bed in town and was now reinforcing it, installing railings around the sides to prevent the cub from falling off.

Bazel was washing baby clothes and cotton cloths. Nick had only bought two outfits suitable for a humanoid cub. Bazel had been complaining about him buying too few, but the moment he heard there were already skeleton soldiers outside looking for Baobao, he shut up immediately.

They had bought plenty of cotton cloth, though. Nick planned to use some for Baobao’s diapers and the rest for them to make clothes for Baobao themselves.

After eating his fill, the cub’s belly became round and full again. Lance patted his back gently, and the little one immediately let out a milky burp.

This was his first time burping. He seemed startled by the sound of his own burp, eyes widening as he looked around. When the second burp came, he immediately started giggling, as if amused by himself.

“Baobao seems much more energetic than before. So he really can absorb magic elements from the air, and it doesn’t harm him.”

Lance observed the lively cub but found nothing unusual. This must be Baobao’s racial talent—absorbing ambient magic elements. If he could store it all within his body, Baobao’s magic reserves would be much higher than other demons.

Bode washed the bowl, put it away, and immediately returned to play with Baobao.

The baby clothes were washed and hung up to dry. Bazel was now washing the cotton cloths. He looked resentfully at the huge pile of cloth beside him, then glanced at Lance and Bode playing with the cub, feeling incredibly envious.

“Bode, come help wash the cloths after feeding him! We need more water,” Bazel called out, planning to drag another demon into doing laundry with him.

Bode, all smiles when facing the cub, immediately turned cold when looking at Bazel. “What are you yelling about? Didn’t I fill the basin for you? I even heated it up specially.”

Bazel looked at the water in the large basin, which was steaming heavily. “Isn’t this a bit too hot? You could probably stew meat in this.”

“Of course, things Baobao uses need scalding hot water! Are you, a dragon, afraid of heat?”

He wasn’t afraid of heat, but there was just so much cloth; the pile was taller than him. Bazel, never a diligent demon to begin with, decided to slack off, lying down on the ground to rest first.

Bode couldn’t stand it. That fat dragon always dragged his feet when doing chores, and now he was even slacking off on washing Baobao’s things! The furious slime launched himself from his spot, shooting towards Bazel, who was lying on the ground, like a cannonball.

The little demon’s mouth fell open, watching in amazement as the blue slime blob flew straight over and tangled up fighting with the demon who had glittering golden hair.

“If you’re going to fight, fight outside! What if you break something in here?” Lance, used to such scenes, calmly held the cub. Nick had put all the purchased items in the palace, some still unpacked, making the place messy.

The little fellow stared at the two demons rolling around fighting on the ground, then suddenly shouted excitedly, “Da!”

Lance was overwhelmed by the cuteness, smiling as he patted the cub’s little head. “Baobao is so smart! Well said! They are fighting. Baobao will definitely be stronger than them someday and beat all these rotten demons down.”

“Da da da!” The little demon babbled unintelligibly, leaning against Lance and laughing.

Spurred on by the cub’s encouragement, the two demons fought with even more gusto. However, they finally calmed down after breaking the wardrobe bought for Baobao and getting furiously scolded by the other two demons. Then, they went to wash the cotton cloths together.

Bode washed, while Bazel transformed into his dragon form, using his breath and wings to dry the washed items. With this division of labor, they worked very quickly, placing a dry cotton cloth under the little one’s bottom just as he seriously widened his eyes, preparing for some important business.

Washed clean, the little demon was no longer bare-skinned. He wore a one-piece baby outfit, with three irregular holes cut in the back to allow his small wings and tail to poke through comfortably.

Wearing clothes for the first time, the little demon kicked his legs and ‘ah-ah’-ed, not quite used to it yet. But soon, his attention was diverted elsewhere.

Nick had added railings around the large bed, creating a giant crib.

Placed on the soft, large bed, the little demon sat there, poking the mattress with his finger. Finding it soft, he immediately pointed at the mattress and shouted “Ah!” at the four demons outside the railings.

“Baobao is so smart! You know this is your bed! Tonight, you’ll sleep with Daddy on the big soft bed.” Nick saw the little one liked the bed and grinned widely, his voice even taking on a high-pitched tone.

Bode stood on the railing, blocking Nick’s face. “Baobao will sleep holding Daddy tonight. Daddy is nice and cool to hold, very comfortable.”

Bazel shoved the slime aside, pinching his throat to produce a voice even higher-pitched than Nick’s. “The bed and clothes were bought with my gemstone, and I washed the clothes, so of course, he has to sleep with me. Daddy has several more shiny gemstones; we can count them together tonight.”

Lance got goosebumps: …

What on earth was that noise?

Their voices were naturally deep; suddenly speaking falsetto sounded incredibly punchable.

The bed could accommodate two adult demons at most. Although the cub was tiny, enough space had to be left for him, leaving only one spot free. The demons started fighting again to claim that spot.

The little demon sat there watching the brawling demons, quickly crawled forward a few steps, pressed his head against the gaps in the railing, and watched the commotion wide-eyed and happily: “Da da da!”

It was like adding fuel to the fire; he was even drooling from excitement.

Demons love gossip and enjoy watching a spectacle. It seemed the little one was no exception—a very authentic demon indeed.

Naturally, the fight ended without a clear winner. However, they did manage to agree on a solution: they would take turns sleeping with Baobao each night, and the other three would sleep on the floor.

“…And so, the evil great Demon King was defeated by the demon…” Lance casually made up a story while gently patting the cub. Seeing he had fallen asleep, Lance stopped, smiling as he gazed at the little one’s serene sleeping face. The atmosphere was warm and beautiful.

“And then what? What happened after he defeated the Demon King?” The warm atmosphere was shattered. The curve of Lance’s smile flattened as he craned his head to look outside the railing.

Bode and Nick were sleeping quietly with their eyes closed.

Only Bazel was staring at him with wide, curious eyes. “Why did you stop?”

I was telling the story to Baobao!!!

Lance looked at him expressionlessly. “And then? Then he became the new Demon King, killed a black dragon to celebrate, skinned it, boiled its meat, gouged out its eyes to play catch with, and used its bones as a clothes rack. How about that? A good story?”

Bazel: “…”

What a vicious story.

What a vicious Nightmare Demon.

“Hurry up and sleep. Tomorrow it’s your turn to go out and find food for the Hellhound,” Lance said, then lay back down beside the cub and quickly fell asleep. As a Nightmare Demon, Lance could fall asleep in a second whenever he wanted, never suffering from insomnia.

Bazel grumbled curses under his breath, then burrowed under his covers, took out his last few treasured gemstones, and examined them over and over until he was satisfied, finally falling asleep.

After a while, Bode quietly got up, squeezed through the railing, and moved slowly beside the cub. He watched the little one sleeping with clenched fists, his mouth occasionally twitching upwards—unbelievably cute.

Bode had wanted to mention earlier that his body could shrink, allowing him to stay beside the cub anytime without taking up space, but he knew the other demons wouldn’t agree, so he just snuck up himself.

Shrinking himself down, he pressed close to the cub. Finally able to snuggle with the cub, Bode wobbled happily.

In the middle of the night, the little demon woke up frowning. Just as he opened his eyes and was about to cry, he saw a familiar blob of blue jelly beside him. He immediately forgot what he was about to do and crawled over to gnaw on the “jelly.”

Only this time, the “jelly” was a bit bigger than last time and couldn’t be eaten in one bite. Toothless, the little demon could only gnaw and gnaw. After gnawing for ages, the “jelly” didn’t even have a scratch, just covered in drool.

Deciding the “jelly” wasn’t tasty at all, the little demon quickly lost interest.

He turned his head to look at the sleeping Lance and Bode, then crawled a few steps to peer through the railing at the two demons on the floor.

Everyone was fast asleep.

The little demon didn’t make a sound, playing quietly by himself, poking here, touching there. When he got tired, he yawned, plopped face down onto the soft bedding, and fell asleep with his bottom sticking up.

His two small black wings finally stretched out. The little guy had been sleeping on his back these past couple of days, flattening his wings.

He was still too young to retract his wings into his body. For little demons born with wings, sleeping on their stomach was best.

Among the demons, only Bazel had wings, but Bazel hadn’t thought of this at all.

For most demon races, parents weren’t overly meticulous when raising cubs after birth. This was because cubs were usually extremely hyperactive and rebellious.

Strong ones could practically tear the house down right after hatching, fight tooth and nail with siblings over food, and occasionally launch sneak attacks on their parents.

Therefore, a demon parent’s affection typically only lasted until the shell cracked. After hatching, demon parents were usually either beating their cubs or on their way to beat their cubs.

A cub as well-behaved and weak as this little one was truly rare. The four demons were genuinely doing their absolute best for him.

Demon baby Baobao had found a suitable sleeping method for himself. He lay there on his stomach, sucking his thumb, sleeping soundly.
