A Kiss Under the Summer Sky Chapter 11

Chapter 11: We’re Not That Close (1/2)

Sang Sui’s expression stiffened.

Leng Siran suddenly looked up, her eyes full of surprise.

The three of them all turned their attention towards her. Sang Sui tightened her fingers, feeling as though something rough and thick was lodged in her throat.

Sheng Yize didn’t want outsiders to know about their relationship. If he didn’t explain, they might misunderstand their connection.

Sang Sui forced a smile and nodded. “Well, I suppose we know each other.”

“Suppose?” Li En immediately jumped off the bed.

The others surrounded her, closing in.

Li En grinned, clearly interested. “So, what’s your relationship? He seems to treat you quite well, even helping you with your luggage!!”

Lin Luoluo was busy with her own tasks, glancing between Li En and Sang Sui, a look of idle curiosity on her face.

Leng Siran quietly studied Sang Sui, as if trying to glean something from her.

Sang Sui swallowed nervously and spoke, “Well, there’s nothing really between us. My mom and his mom are good friends, so… we just know each other.”

Li En’s eyes widened. “Childhood sweethearts?!”

Lin Luoluo remained calm and neutral. “Like, two kids who grew up together?”

“No…” Sang Sui was about to explain further when a box of strawberries was suddenly handed to her.

She froze. Leng Siran smiled and said, “Here, have some.”

“Ah?” Sang Sui was momentarily confused.

“You said you liked strawberries the other day, so I bought some today. I’ll share a box with you.” When Sang Sui still seemed stunned, Leng Siran pressed the strawberries into her arms, her smile sweet and almost too much. “By the way, how’s your relationship with Sheng Yize?”

Sang Sui looked at the strawberries in her arms, feeling as though they were burning her hands.

But she didn’t think much of it and tried to explain, “You’re misunderstanding. We’re not childhood sweethearts, we just know each other, and we’ve only met a few times.”

Li En raised an eyebrow. “Huh? But I heard you call him ‘brother’.”

Sang Sui choked a little and forced a smile. “We… we’re not that close.”

“Really not close?” Leng Siran squinted her eyes.

Sang Sui replied earnestly, “Really not close.”

Leng Siran’s expression soured. “Boring.”

With that, she snatched the box of strawberries from Sang Sui’s arms and walked back to her own seat.

Sang Sui: “…”

Lin Luoluo furrowed her brow. “Leng Siran, those strawberries were for Sang Sui. Why’d you take them?”

Leng Siran gave a dismissive wave. “Oh, the strawberries are bad. I’ll take them back and exchange them with the vendor.”

Lin Luoluo was about to say something when Leng Siran, already fed up, grabbed her bag. “My friend’s waiting for me. I’m leaving now. Don’t forget to lock the door tonight.”

She said that, then stepped out with her high heels clicking against the floor.

Sang Sui’s gaze shifted to her desk.

The box of strawberries was still there.

The door to the dorm slammed shut, and Lin Luoluo couldn’t hold back her complaints.

“What kind of person takes the gift they give to someone else?!”

Sang Sui didn’t really mind. After all, it’s not like she couldn’t afford strawberries.

But Leng Siran’s attitude…

Could she be familiar with Sheng Yize?

Sang Sui glanced at Lin Luoluo and smiled, “It’s nothing. Thanks, Luoluo.”

Lin Luoluo, still annoyed, looked at the box of strawberries. “If it were me, I’d eat those strawberries right away to make her mad!”

Sang Sui couldn’t hold back and laughed.

The next day, after school, Sang Sui received a voice message from Yun Man.

“Hey, Sui, grandma sent us a few boxes of autumn moon pears from her hometown. Since you weren’t home, Mom picked two big and sweet boxes to send to the school. They should arrive today, so don’t forget to pick up the package.”

“Oh, and by the way, pick one box to send to Yize as a thank-you for sending you home last time.”

After listening to the voice message and replying with a simple “okay,” Sang Sui received a notification from the courier.

She opened it, then frowned.

Those two boxes of pears were definitely heavy. How would she carry them?

“Come on, hurry up, or there won’t be any food left in the cafeteria!”

Lin Luoluo suddenly leapt onto her back, pulling her toward the cafeteria.

Thankfully, they had arrived early, and there weren’t many students in line. They quickly grabbed their meals and found a seat.

Sang Sui looked around but didn’t spot Li En or Leng Siran. “Where are they?”

Lin Luoluo started eating, looking unbothered. “Li En went to the student council meeting. Leng Siran didn’t come today. She said she took the day off.”

“Li En just joined the student council, didn’t she? What meeting?”

“I heard that we freshmen are going to have military training soon, and the student council needs to assign people to handle emergency situations.”

“Ah, I see.”

As Sang Sui continued eating, a familiar voice interrupted her thoughts.

“Sang Sui, what a coincidence!”

She looked up and saw Zou Jing with Chen Yi, and… Sheng Yize.

Sheng Yize was dressed casually, wearing a black hoodie and black pants, his hands in his pockets, looking lazy and nonchalant.

Chapter 11: We’re Not That Close (2/2)

When their eyes met, Sang Sui was momentarily stunned and quickly looked away, focusing on Zou Jing and Chen Yi instead.

“Zou Jing, Chen Yi,” she greeted, deliberately leaving Sheng Yize out.

Sheng Yize furrowed his brows.

“Hey!” Zou Jing immediately called back.

Sang Sui’s casual greeting seemed to have made Zou Jing particularly happy, and he grinned, “Tell me, what do you want to eat? I’ll treat you!”

It was only later that Sang Sui learned that both Chen Yi and Zou Jing were also students at Yunjing University. Since it was lunchtime, it wasn’t surprising to see them in the cafeteria.

But she found it curious…

Why would these rich young men, who could easily afford to eat in fancy restaurants, be eating such simple meals in the school cafeteria?

Zou Jing, hearing her remark, became defensive, wanting to prove that even as a rich kid, he could enjoy a humble meal. He glanced at Sang Sui’s tray.

One piece of meat, two vegetables—very simple.

“Not enough meat?” Zou Jing pulled out his meal card. “Wait here, I’ll get you a chicken leg!”

Sang Sui quickly waved her hand. “No, no, I don’t eat much meat.”

“How can you not eat meat? Look at you, you’re so thin!” He grabbed her slender arm. “You’re like a little monkey. You need to—”

Suddenly, her arm was yanked away.

Zou Jing turned to see Chen Yi pulling her arm away.

Zou Jing bared his teeth. “Chen Yi, you little…”

Chen Yi gave him an exasperated look, gesturing to Sheng Yize, whose face had turned dark.

At that moment, Zou Jing felt like there was a sword over his neck.

He chuckled awkwardly. “Yize, I was just saying… I was just worried about her being too thin…”

Sheng Yize glanced at Sang Sui, then turned away and walked to the food counter.

Zou Jing shivered and looked at Chen Yi, who whispered, “It’s you who pissed him off.”

“…”

Sheng Yize had a short temper, and Zou Jing had learned to ignore it over time.

A few minutes later, a plate full of chicken legs was placed in front of Sang Sui. Zou Jing sat next to her, grinning. “Here, eat up. If you don’t have enough, I’ll get you more!”

Sang Sui blinked and stared at the plate, which seemed to have over ten chicken legs.

She hesitated. “I can’t eat that much…”

“Don’t worry,” Zou Jing said as he looked at Lin Luoluo. “She’s your friend, right?”

Lin Luoluo nodded. “Yes, I’m Lin Luoluo, Sang Sui’s roommate.”

“Then you help her out.”

“Uh…” Lin Luoluo looked at the pile of chicken legs, a little uncertain. “Even if it’s two of us, we still can’t finish all this.”

“I thought you didn’t like it?” Zou Jing raised an eyebrow.

“No, no, we like it!” Lin Luoluo leaned forward, lowering her voice. “Sui, Sheng Yize is so good to you!”

Zou Jing: “…”

Just as Sheng Yize returned with his meal, he sat across from Sang Sui, propping his elbow on the table, tapping his temple with his fingers as he casually observed the scene.

It was clear he was enjoying the drama.

Sang Sui didn’t dare to look at him and hurried to finish her meal.

Lin Luoluo, finally realizing the tension, glanced between them. “What’s going on?”

Zou Jing was almost furious. “Lin Luoluo!”

Lin Luoluo was clueless. “?”

“I’m Zou Jing, not that Sheng guy!!”

“…”

Sheng Yize scoffed and sat down, looking amused as he eyed Sang Sui.

Sang Sui kept her head down, trying to eat faster.

Lin Luoluo finally understood what was happening. She looked over at Sheng Yize and then noticed the man sitting opposite her.

He was very handsome, with sharp, slanted eyes and a mischievous glint, making him look carefree and a little unruly.

Even in casual clothes, he exuded an aristocratic and exceptional air.

Lin Luoluo immediately recognized him.

She stared at him in surprise for a long time before realizing he hadn’t said a word to Sang Sui. Her brow furrowed, and she quickly turned to Sang Sui, nodding knowingly.

“Seems like you two really aren’t that close!”

Sheng Yize: “…”
