A-Level Pursuit
A-Level Pursuit chapter 31

“General Mo, what’s the meaning of this?” Godwin’s face lost its smile, and he glanced at the kitchen knife embedded in the staircase with lingering fear.

“Slippery hand,” Mo Xin wiped his hands with a towel, walked over to look at the search warrant in Godwin’s hand, “Who issued this?”

“My uncle,” Godwin said arrogantly, “General Reinis, the commander of the pursuit team. He personally issued the search warrant, so I don’t think we need your consent as a deputy team leader, right?”

Mo Xin nodded, “Of course, but how come you’re searching my house for a fugitive?”

“You’ll have to ask the general about that.” Godwin waved his hand and ordered loudly, “What are you waiting for, search quickly! Upstairs, downstairs, every room, every corner, nothing should be overlooked!”

The policemen moved at the command, splitting into groups of two or three and heading upstairs and to the basement for the search.

Listening to the commotion, Vincent gritted his teeth, “Are you searching or ransacking?”

“All my brothers are from the grassroots, clumsy and ignorant, if they accidentally damage General Mo’s belongings, please have Captain Wen tally them up later. I, Reinis, will compensate at the original price, to ensure you don’t suffer any losses,” Godwin’s tone was very provocative.

Vincent coldly retorted, “Not everything can be measured with money.”

“Wrong,” Godwin chuckled, “It’s just that the money given isn’t enough.”

“You!”

“Captain Wen, you should worry about sneaking off to the red-light district with General Mo, after all, the Mo family has strict family rules.” Godwin pretended to be surprised, then slapped his own mouth, laughing, “Oops, I let it slip.”

“General, I…” Vincent face turned pale and wanted to explain, but was stopped by a glance from Mo Xin.

Mo Xin looked at Godwin, “Since your uncle suspects me of harboring Liang Qiuchi, why doesn’t he come to search personally?”

Godwin snorted, “He’s busy, he has to fly to give a campaign speech in another city this afternoon. He doesn’t have time for such trivial matters.”

“Trivial matters?” Mo Xin sneered, “It seems that for him, the presidential position is more important than avenging his son’s death.”

“What are you talking about! At least I’m part of the Reinis family, the head of the security team in the central district of San Lorenzo, am I not qualified enough to search your private residence?” Godwin crossed his arms, looking smug.

“You are qualified,” Mo Xin nodded at him, “Actually, I admire your courage.”

Hearing this, Godwin became even more self-assured.

“When Liang Qiuchi killed your cousin, you were there. Now Captain Godwin, you have healed from your wounds and forgotten the pain. Knowing that Liang Qiuchi may be with me, you still dared to come to my door to look for him. How can one not admire that?” Mo Xin’s eyes were filled with a cold and murderous intent.

Godwin widened his eyes, “Are you threatening me?!”

Mo Xin looked at him calmly, his eyes filled with icy determination.

Godwin was frightened by his gaze but didn’t want to lose face in front of him. At this moment, the patrolmen responsible for the search began to return one after another. He immediately changed the subject and asked sharply, “Have you found him?”

“…No.” His subordinates replied nervously.

Godwin didn’t believe it.

That day, when he returned from the red-light district, he recalled Vincent and Mo Qi’s reactions, feeling that something was amiss. So, he schemed to obtain a search warrant, hoping to catch Liang Qiuchi and present him to his uncle to gain favor.

If he returned empty-handed, his merit would be lost.

And offending the Mo family would be even more detrimental!

“Get out of the way!” Godwin pushed aside two patrolmen beside him and ran upstairs to search personally.

Mo Xin and Vincent exchanged a glance and quickly followed upstairs.

Bedroom, study, tea room… They searched inside and out twice, but there was no sign of Liang Qiuchi.

Mo Xin clenched his fists, his nails digging into his flesh, to keep his composure and not immediately jump out the window to chase Liang Qiuchi.

Godwin kept muttering “impossible” and, unwilling to accept it, pulled open the curtains, only to find nothing.

He rushed to Mo Xin, sneering, “General Mo, you’re quite cunning to hide someone so well. I underestimated you.”

Suppressing his emotions, Mo Xin looked at him coldly, “You’re accusing me of rescuing Liang Qiuchi. Where’s the evidence?”

“Do you really think you’ve covered your tracks perfectly?” Godwin’s face was terrifyingly grim, “I’ve found records of your competitions and missions with Liang Qiuchi at military school. And during the time Liang Qiuchi went missing, you consulted a family doctor multiple times, didn’t you? Although I haven’t found out where that doctor is yet, there’s a saying: ‘If you want to keep something secret, don’t do it.'”

Vincent retorted, “You’re slandering without evidence, relying on speculation to convict others!”

“Do you have the right to speak!” Godwin exploded, “You’re just Mo Xin’s lapdog! And guess what, General Mo, in front of my uncle, you’re not even worthy to carry his shoes!” Godwin’s face twisted in anger as he tore into Mo Xin, “Do you think because your father was nominated as a presidential candidate, the entire federation belongs to your Mo family? If you really rescued Liang Qiuchi, then you’re a traitor to the nation. I wonder what qualifications the Mo family will have to compete with us!”

Mo Xin understood. Godwin’s grand entrance today was not just about Liang Qiuchi; the presidential election was the main reason.

Recently, Reinis had been busy campaigning in various states and counties of the federation. If everything went smoothly, he and his father would become presidential candidates and enter the final election.

Politically speaking, they were enemies.

Ruining and defaming the reputation of enemies was basic. And if they could eliminate a powerful enemy, it would be even more reassuring.

“Do you know what’s most important in running for president?” Godwin snapped his fingers, smiling, “Money! Money is everything!” He patted his chest, proudly saying, “The wealthiest family in the entire federation is our Reinis family. You Mos are just guarding our house.”

Vincent couldn’t bear it anymore. He raised his gun and aimed at Godwin’s ugly face, saying in a deep voice, “Do you want to take another bullet!”

Afraid that Vincent would actually shoot, Godwin gestured to Mo Xin and said, “Take care of yourself,” then quickly led his team away.

Vincent put away his gun, still angry but also feeling a strong sense of unease.

“General, what do we do now?”

Once the other side became suspicious, it would be difficult to dispel their doubts.

However, Reinis should have no substantial evidence, and there was no better reason to search a high-ranking official’s private residence, so they could only send someone like Godwin to test the waters.

Mo Xin didn’t care about these things now, he didn’t care at all.

At this moment, he just wanted to know where Liang Qiuchi had gone.
