A-Level Pursuit
A-Level Pursuit chapter 40

Thinking about Liang Qiuchi’s father’s funeral, Mo Xin couldn’t help but feel anxious.

If he had to pinpoint when their life trajectories diverged, it was probably that day, the real beginning.

He wanted to ask what had happened that day because he had read news reports afterward, all of which were uniformly low in credibility.

He wanted to hear Liang Qiuchi say it in person, but he was afraid it would hurt him.

Liang Qiuchi rubbed his throbbing temples, calming his emotions, and took the initiative to tell him what had happened.

Because his father had been sentenced to a serious crime before his death and his identity was sensitive, the funeral was very simple, and there were few relatives who dared to attend.

But outside the cemetery, it was surrounded by numerous media.

Compared to the funeral, they were more inclined to make the only son of the Liang family the protagonist of this headline news.

After all, Liang Qiuchi was once an outstanding student representative of a prestigious military academy, and General Reines personally awarded him the honor medal as an outstanding youth. Now, with his father imprisoned and deceased, the former pride of the heavens was at a loss as to where to go, which was more likely to attract people’s attention.

They wielded their cameras and microphones, constantly filming him from various angles, trying to capture his vulnerability and collapse.

But even though the Liang family’s situation was akin to the sky falling, this young man of only twenty years old still stood straight, his handsome face showing no panic or fear.

Aside from sadness, there was more determination.

“What a pity,” someone in the media group sighed softly, immediately drowned out by a burst of exclamations.

The cameras turned one after another, aiming at the off-road vehicle parked at the entrance of the cemetery.

Two people got out of the car one after another, with flamboyant red hair and arrogant expressions. Everyone recognized them at a glance as Roy Reines and Godwin Reines, the two brothers who had been extensively reported during the hostage incident.

Impatiently glancing at the lingering reporters, they strode into the cemetery and found Liang Qiuchi.

Before they could state their purpose, Liang Qiuchi coldly spat out two words: “Get lost.”

Godwin Reines sneered, “Liang Qiuchi, I advise you to be sensible and recognize your identity. Do you still think you’re the minister’s son?”

“Hey, it’s okay,” Roy Reines generously waved his hand and smiled at his cousin, “his father is being buried today, he’s not in a good mood, we should understand.”

Hearing this, Godwin Reines also smiled, nodding repeatedly in agreement and flattering his cousin, “Second brother, you are so generous, not stooping to his level.”

Liang Qiuchi listened to their ridicule and mockery, and all he could see in front of him was the helpless yet resolute expression of the team leader when he stepped on the landmine, as well as Xiang Bei muttering, “It’s really not worth it,” with red eyes.

“Let’s get to the point, I still need to go home and take a shower later,” Roy sneered, glancing at the newly erected tombstone of Liang Qiuchi’s father.

Godwin immediately nodded in agreement, “This place is indeed unlucky.” He snapped his fingers at Liang Qiuchi arrogantly, as if commanding a dog, “let’s go to the car and talk.”

Liang Qiuchi remained unmoved, a layer of shadow in his eyes.

Roy shook his head at Godwin.

Godwin sighed and walked to Liang Qiuchi’s side, deliberately turning his back to block the curious cameras before taking out an envelope from his coat pocket and handing it to him.

“Inside is a check for twenty million. Take this money and leave the federation. Go wherever you want, just don’t come back.”

Godwin slapped the envelope on Liang Qiuchi’s chest, but Liang Qiuchi didn’t take it, and the envelope floated lightly to the ground.

Roy raised an eyebrow and asked, “Too little?”

Liang Qiuchi stared coldly at them. “This amount of money can only buy your worthless lives.”

“Liang Qiuchi! You don’t know what’s good for you!” Godwin glared at him, his voice low. “Take the money and leave before we change our minds. Stop with the reporting and complaints. Otherwise, the next person buried here will be you.”

“Oh? Why not just frame me with a charge and kill me too? Worried that it’ll raise suspicions and won’t be able to end well in the end?” Liang Qiuchi wasn’t afraid of his threats at all.

“Liang Qiuchi, you’re a smart person. Smart people shouldn’t have trouble with money,” Roy said. “If this isn’t enough, I’ll give you more money when you leave, enough for you to enjoy the rest of your life. How about it? Think about it.”

Liang Qiuchi stepped on the envelope and walked up to Roy Reines, saying in a deep voice, “I’m not going anywhere. One day, I will expose the true face of your Reines family to everyone and make you pay the price.”

Roy was stunned by his sharp gaze and shrugged after two seconds. “It’s a pity you made the wrong choice.”

Godwin picked up the envelope containing the check, dusted off the dirt, put it back in his pocket, and then pretended to be serious. “Hmm, what’s this?”

As he spoke, he took out a slightly crumpled piece of paper from his pocket.

Godwin pretended to think for two seconds, then pretended to suddenly remember, “Oh, it’s the letter I took when we seized the Liang family’s property. Second brother, should we open it and take a look?”

Roy was very willing to cooperate with him in this act and nodded in agreement.

Godwin opened the folded piece of paper, cleared his throat, and read aloud in a fake disgusted tone, “Dear Liang Qiuchi, student,” he pretended to gag and stuck out his tongue before continuing to read the contents of the letter, “This is our first mission, and we have to write a farewell letter. How annoying.”

“Give it back!” Liang Qiuchi wanted to snatch it, but Godwin dodged away with a quick movement.

“Not sure what to write, also don’t want to write to my parents,” Godwin held up the paper, pretending to speak in a melodramatic tone, “But if I really die, don’t be sad for too long. Although you probably won’t find another best friend as outstanding as me haha.”

“Give it back,” Liang Qiuchi’s eyes were as sharp as a knife.

Ignoring him, Godwin continued, “Signed, Xiang Bei.” He looked at Roy Reines and smiled, “Second brother, isn’t this Xiang Bei the kid we had a car accident with a couple of years ago?”

Roy nodded, “That’s him.”

“Retribution! Retribution!” Godwin grinned at Liang Qiuchi, “See, those who oppose us won’t have a good end.”

Liang Qiuchi clenched his fists, his eyes red, staring at him. “If it weren’t for you, Xiang Bei wouldn’t be dead.”

“Oh,” Godwin casually raised his eyebrows, “then he should thank me and my second brother. If it weren’t for us giving him this opportunity, how could he be posthumously awarded the Medal of Valor?”

Roy smiled and said, “Dying to save us is his honor.”

Godwin burst into laughter, casually folding Xiang Bei’s final letter a few times and then tearing it into pieces.

He casually tossed the scraps of paper into the air and squinted at Liang Qiuchi, “See that? Your lives are like this piece of paper, pathetic and worthless.”

The scraps of paper fluttered to the ground beside the grass and tombstones.

At that moment, all of Liang Qiuchi’s rationality and concerns snapped.
