A-Level Pursuit
A-Level Pursuit chapter 5

Mo Xin hardly slept all night.

But he was in good spirits. He got up at six in the morning, went downstairs, jogged for half an hour in the gym, then quickly washed up and went into the kitchen to personally cook congee for Liang Qiuchi.

Vincent reminded him, “You have to go to the headquarters investigation team at ten in the morning.”

Although it was just a routine inquiry, he couldn’t be careless.

Mo Xin stirred the porridge absentmindedly with a spoon and casually asked, “Any progress over there?”

Vincent glanced behind him at the stairs before answering in a low voice, “The teeth and bones of the other people on the armored vehicle have been identified one after another. It’s estimated that Mr. Liang wasn’t on the vehicle at all.”

Mo Xin wasn’t surprised.

Originally, according to his plan, the DNA testing would have given him about a week’s time. If Liang Qiuchi hadn’t lost his memory and vision like he is now, he could have used these few days to take him away.

Vincent was worried about the exposure of the situation and asked Mo Xin, “Should I contact the perimeter and escort Mr. Liang out of San Lorenzo as soon as possible?”

“No,” Mo Xin turned off the stove, analyzed the current situation for him, and said, “Even if it’s confirmed that Qiuchi didn’t die, without conclusive evidence, the investigation team won’t rush to search. Don’t show any weakness; impulsive actions will only give them an excuse.”

“Understood.” Vincent wanted to report other matters. As footsteps approached from behind, he turned around and saw Liang Qiuchi slowly descending the stairs with support.

“Be careful!”

Mo Xin ran over to help him downstairs, but Liang Qiuchi waved him off and insisted, “I can do it myself.”

Mo Xin could only lightly support his arm and said, “If you need anything, just call me. Why bother coming down yourself? What if you fall?”

Liang Qiuchi smiled, “I’ve been stuck upstairs for too long and wanted to take a walk downstairs.”

Mo Xin signaled to Vincent with his eyes, and Vincent immediately understood, quickly walking out of the hall to guard the front yard.

Yesterday, Mo Qi suddenly visited, saying he saw Mo Xin leaving the party in a hurry and was worried, so he came to check on him and brought a bottle of good wine he had promised to give before. Fortunately, the access control system was sensitive, combined with Vincent’s timely report, which prevented Mo Qi from detecting any abnormalities.

This kind of thing must not happen a second time.

Liang Qiuchi’s eyesight was not good, but his hearing was even sharper. He smiled and asked toward the doorway, “Why did Vincent run away when he saw me?”

Mo Xin could only lie to him, “There’s something going on at the company, so he went out.”

“How about we go together?” Liang Qiuchi’s sudden suggestion made Mo Xin momentarily stunned. Seeing him silent, Liang Qiuchi smiled and asked, “Is it inconvenient?”

“It’s not inconvenient,” Mo Xin blurted out, “It’s just a small matter. There’s nothing interesting to do there, and Vincent can handle it.”

“I don’t doubt his ability; I just want to visit the place where I used to work. Maybe I’ll remember something.” Liang Qiuchi said truthfully.

He wanted to retrieve his memories as soon as possible, especially to remember the eight years of love that Mo Xin talked about. He thought Mo Xin must have described this relationship so sincerely and profoundly because he must also want him to recover soon.

However, Mo Xin once again told him, “The past doesn’t matter.”

“Even if you can’t remember, it’s okay. Your current task is to rest well.” Mo Xin led him to the dining table and said, “I’ve cooked porridge for you. Just wait here, Qiuchi.”

The subtle evasive attitude in his words made Liang Qiuchi feel strange, but he didn’t bring up the matter of going to the company again.

Mo Xin brought the porridge over and saw Liang Qiuchi drink nearly half a bowl in one go, couldn’t help but ask expectantly, “How does it taste?”

Liang Qiuchi nodded, “It’s pretty good.”

Mo Xin quietly watched him for a while, then suddenly explained, “It’s not that I don’t want to take you to the company, it’s because I haven’t leaked anything about your car accident to the outside world. I don’t want anyone gossiping about you.”

“Got it.” In fact, Liang Qiuchi didn’t necessarily have to go to the company; he just wanted to visit some places he had been to with Mo Xin before.

Mo Xin once again declined, saying, “I can’t take you today. I have something to attend to later.”

Liang Qiuchi put down the bowl and turned to him with a sympathetic smile, “Let’s talk about it when you’re free then.”

Mo Xin secretly breathed a sigh of relief, at least he had temporarily dodged the issue.

“I’ll help you upstairs first, and then I have to go out.” With that, he got up to take Liang Qiuchi’s hand, but was rejected again.

“I want to take a walk in the yard. You go on, don’t worry about me.”

Since Liang Qiuchi woke up, he had been eating, drinking, sleeping, and relieving himself in the upstairs bedroom, feeling stifled and bored. That day the sun was shining, and his vision was much clearer than before. He could even vaguely make out the positions of the furniture, so he wanted to go out to the yard for some activity.

“But the snow hasn’t melted completely in the yard, it’s slippery and dangerous,” Mo Xin said worriedly.

“Then I’ll just walk on the first floor,” Liang Qiuchi said.

Mo Xin couldn’t stop him anymore, so he went upstairs alone.

When he came down after changing clothes, he saw Liang Qiuchi standing by the French window with his back to him. Although his figure was as straight as when they first met, he gave off a very desolate feeling.

He knew Liang Qiuchi had a strong sense of pride. Now that he couldn’t see anything and was confined to his room all day long, he must be very unhappy.

Mo Xin quietly returned upstairs again and brought back a portable shortwave radio from the study to cheer up Liang Qiuchi.

“Why do you still have this antique?” Liang Qiuchi was quite surprised, but there was a smile on his face, which made Mo Xin’s eyes feel a bit hot.

This thing was brought back by Mo Xin from a mission where he encountered a major earthquake that destroyed the base station. There happened to be a young man in the electronic reconnaissance team who loved radio and carried this small shortwave radio with him. It quickly restored communication with the outside world. But that young man later died on the front line, so he brought the radio back and kept it in the study.

Of course, Mo Xin wouldn’t tell Liang Qiuchi about this.

He just showed Liang Qiuchi how to familiarize himself with the power switch and frequency knob, then said, “Wait for me to come back,” and left.

……………..

The investigation team had set up a separate office at the Security Bureau. As the acting director, he was just going through the motions as the vice president had told him.

After all, he had fought for the Federation’s honor on the front lines for so many years, and no one would connect him, a war machine, with harboring a top-level fugitive.

Instead, because of his illustrious military achievements, many people in the bureau admired him. So after finishing the routine inquiry, when Mo Xin asked about the situation, the team members, who shouldn’t have disclosed the details, didn’t think much and told him all about the progress of the investigation.

“We can basically confirm that Liang Qiuchi has escaped, but what’s strange is that the Lugo armed forces deny being responsible for the fire and the incident, so we need to continue the investigation. Director, if it wasn’t the Lugos who rescued the person, then who else could it be? Liang Qiuchi has been a defector from the Federation for so many years, could there be someone in our ranks who…”

“Don’t make baseless speculations,” Mo Xin interrupted the other person’s guess, “First, report the investigation results, and follow the instructions from superiors on what to do next.”

The investigator repeatedly agreed.

Mo Xin was concerned about the situation at home and wanted to leave, but he encountered Reinis, who was also there for routine questioning.

“General Mo, you seem to be in a hurry, where are you going?” Reinis took off his leather gloves and put them in his coat pocket, gesturing towards the nearby tea room. There was a fake smile in his murky eyes. “Come, let’s have a cup of coffee together. I have something to tell you.”
