“We can’t stay in San Lorenzo any longer. We need to return to Danga as soon as possible.”
After Mo Qi entered, he directly explained the purpose to Mo Xin, his urgent tone indicating that there was no time to waste, the sooner they left, the better.
Liang Qiuchi asked, “What happened?” According to their previous plan, there was no urgent need to return to Danga immediately.
Mo Qi looked deeply at Mo Xin, his voice low and choked with rare emotion, “Dad might not make it.”
Mo Xin’s body stiffened, and after a long silence, he nodded silently. “Okay, I’ll make arrangements.”
Liang Qiuchi gently stroked Mo Xin’s back with his hand, refraining from speaking words of comfort— in the face of death, any words would seem feeble and pale.
Mo Qi sat down beside them, his head hanging low, his expression unreadable.
After a moment of silence, he composed himself and said, “Reinis has been acting frequently these days, obviously trying to finish things off. Since that’s the case, we don’t need to maintain surface relations with him anymore.”
Mo Xin said in a deep voice, “I understand.”
Mo Qi continued, “Although Reinis has been trying to smear you, he hasn’t made any substantial progress so far. You still have command over the Federal and Air forces.”
Mo Xin understood his meaning. “I’ll bypass Reinis’s arrangements. He won’t be able to meddle.”
“Good.”
Mo Qi suddenly looked up at Liang Qiuchi, extending an invitation to him, “Come with us.”
At this moment, Wu Yahui also walked out from the inner room and couldn’t help but ask, “Go where?”
Mo Qi didn’t answer, still staring at Liang Qiuchi. “San Lorenzo is about to change, and staying here, you won’t be able to confront Reinis effectively in the short term. It’s better to come back to Danga with us and plan for the long term.”
Mo Xin was a little surprised. He didn’t expect his brother to give up persuading Liang Qiuchi to come forward and testify against Reinis’s crimes, but instead invited him to go to Danga with them.
“Now it’s a bit late to come forward to testify. I heard that Reinis will be sworn in as president in advance. It’s probably happening in the next two days. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have come to find you in the middle of the night.”
He continued to persuade Liang Qiuchi, “Bring that witness with you and come back to Danga with us. We’ll discuss how to make the existing evidence work to its fullest extent.”
Mo Xin understood. He turned his head to look at Liang Qiuchi.
Wu Yahui stepped forward, asking softly, “So, Reinis being elected president is a foregone conclusion?”
Mo Qi nodded grimly.
Wu Yahui cursed softly, her brows furrowing as she looked at Liang Qiuchi, “Qiuchi, what do you think? I’ll go with your plan.”
Liang Qiuchi pondered for a moment, grabbed Mo Xin’s hand, and looked at Mo Qi. “Since we are comrades in the same trench, we naturally have to advance and retreat together.”
Mo Qi wiped his face with both hands, then slapped his thigh heavily, as if relieved. “With your words, I feel at ease.”
Liang Qiuchi instructed Wu Yahui to quickly disperse the personnel lurking at various contact points inside the city. Wu Yahui was not worried about this.
“Their identities are all very secretive, there’s hardly any risk of exposure for the time being. What concerns me more is how you and Wancha can safely get out of San Lorenzo.”
One was a federal Class A wanted criminal, the other was an escaped convict who attempted to assassinate the governor of Danga Province. It was almost impossible to smoothly pass through the city checkpoints.
Especially after the assassination incident, the checkpoints in San Lorenzo became very strict. The previously established routes out of the city, which she had painstakingly secured, were now highly risky and not suitable for use.
“In that case, you go first. The probability of one person successfully escaping is higher,” Wu Yahui said. “I’ll stay here temporarily. When Wancha recovers, I’ll figure out a way to bring him to you.”
“No need,” Mo Xin said. “You and a few others will come with us.”
To prevent communication devices from being monitored and leaking information, Mo Xin decided to personally arrange reliable personnel to set up the plan to leave the city.
He was always decisive in his actions. He left in the middle of the night and sent a message to Liang Qiuchi and Mo Qi as soon as it was dawn, simply stating “everything’s ready”, without revealing much else. He didn’t return to the safe house for a long time either.
It was only at this moment that Mo Qi learned about Wancha being poisoned.
“Hasn’t he woken up yet?”
Wu Yahui said “He woke up briefly in the early morning, but still feels unwell. He’s still in a daze.” She couldn’t help but worry. “He can’t even get out of bed, how can he leave the city?”
Liang Qiuchi tightened his grip on his phone. “Listen to Mo Xin’s arrangement.”
He was willing to unconditionally trust Mo Xin and believed in his ability to arrange everything meticulously.
At around ten in the morning, an ambulance arrived, screeching to a halt at the door.
Vincent, dressed in ambulance attire, brought a doctor and a nurse carrying a stretcher hurriedly inside.
Upon entering, Vincent immediately explained the plan. “Mr. Liang and Miss Wu, please change into medical attire and help lift Wancha onto the ambulance,” he took off his own ambulance attire and handed it to Qu Cheng who had arrived upon hearing the commotion. “Dr. Qu, you and your team will accompany the ambulance. When you reach the hospital, go directly to the top floor of the hospital’s inpatient building where the medical helicopter will be waiting.”
He then took out masks from his pocket and distributed them to everyone.
Liang Qiuchi put on the medical attire and asked, “What about Mo Xin?”
“The general is handling other matters at the hospital,” Vincent turned to Mo Qi. “Sir , we’ll take a different route to the hospital.”
“Okay.” Mo Qi asked, “Is everything arranged?”
“Please rest assured, all the personnel are trustworthy.” Vincent replied.
In the time it took for these two sentences, Liang Qiuchi and the others had changed into their clothes, put on masks, and lifted Wancha, who was still unconscious, onto the ambulance. They secured an oxygen mask to his face, making it impossible to recognize his facial features.
Vincent told Qu Cheng the hospital’s address and then jumped into a military off-road vehicle parked beside the ambulance, with Mo Qi leading the way.
They took a shortcut, much faster than the ambulance. When they arrived at the hospital, Mo Qi saw a bunch of media blocking the entrance, almost impassable.
“What’s going on?”
He rolled down the car window and saw armed police standing shoulder to shoulder at the entrance, forming a human wall to stop reporters from rushing into the hospital.
Vincent stopped the car and checked the time. “The general said he wants to hold a brief press conference.”
“In here?” Mo Qi’s brow furrowed.
Before Vincent could respond, the media suddenly stirred up. Mo Xin, dressed sharply in military uniform, appeared alone at the entrance of the inpatient building, striding confidently towards the reporters.
All cameras instantly focused on this young general.
With his father being attacked and his life hanging in the balance, and recently being repeatedly accused by General Reinis on television, suspected of collusion and selling military intelligence, everyone wanted to see how this person, who was at the center of the storm, would respond.
The journalists all crowded forward, hoping to get closer to Mo Xin for the upcoming interviews.
Several police guards stood shoulder to shoulder, gradually feeling overwhelmed. The leader had to call for more personnel through the intercom to maintain order.
As Mo Xin approached the reporters, Vincent’s phone in the car also vibrated.
He glanced at the message and said to Mo Qi, “All the guards in the hospital building have been replaced by our own people. Sir, you just need to follow General Mo’s doctor directly onto the plane later.”
Mo Qi already understood Mo Xin’s arrangement.
He leaned back in his seat, watching the figure surrounded by multiple cameras from a distance of several tens of meters, and couldn’t help but sigh deeply.
“My brother… really has guts.”
Actually daring to send a Class A wanted criminal away in front of everyone’s eyes.
