A Military Marriage: Five Years Apart—The Delicate Beauty Joins the Army with Her Child Chapter 21

Chapter 21: Too Close for Comfort

In truth, her period had already ended the day before… but in a moment of panic, she had no choice but to use it as an excuse.

Gu Weicheng was briefly stunned as he processed the meaning behind Li Xia’s words.

Did she think he was trying to do that to her, which was why she…

Seeing how incredibly nervous Li Xia was, Gu Weicheng couldn’t quite describe what he was feeling. He tried to console himself—after all, they had been apart for so many years; it was normal for her to not be ready yet. But the thought of being rejected by her once again still left an undeniable sense of disappointment in his heart.

Awkwardly withdrawing his hand, Gu Weicheng explained, “Don’t misunderstand. I just saw that your blanket wasn’t properly covering you and wanted to fix it for you. As for that matter…”

“If you’re not willing, I won’t touch you.”

After saying this, Gu Weicheng lay back down and turned off the bedside lamp.

Realizing she had misunderstood him; Li Xia felt a bit regretful. But hearing his reassurance also gave her a sense of relief.

“It’s not that I don’t want to,” she murmured after a moment. “I just hope you can give me a little time. And I think… it won’t be too long.”

“…Mm. Go to sleep.”

Neither of them spoke again. Gradually, they both drifted into slumber.

They had originally thought they would get through the night peacefully, but just at the break of dawn—

* Bang! *

All three of them were jolted awake.

Yes, jolted awake.

Because their bed had collapsed!

“Careful!”

At the very moment the bed gave way, Gu Weicheng reacted swiftly, wrapping his arms around An An and Li Xia, shielding them both in his embrace and preventing them from falling.

The result? Gu Weicheng became a solid human cushion, taking the full impact while An An and Li Xia remained completely unscathed.

Li Xia found herself tightly held in the man’s strong and powerful arms.

The night before, with An An sleeping between them, they had kept their distance despite sharing the same bed. But now, their bodies were pressed firmly together.

Li Xia could distinctly feel Gu Weicheng’s solid chest and the strong, steady rhythm of his heartbeat.

Their faces were so close that she could even feel his breath against her skin.

Li Xia had barely recovered from the shock of the bed collapsing when she suddenly found herself in an even more awkward situation. Panicking, she hurriedly tried to push herself off Gu Weicheng, but the moment she lifted her body, her legs—numb from sleep—gave out, causing her to fall right back into his embrace.

In the darkness, Gu Weicheng let out a low, muffled groan.

“Are you okay? Did I hurt you? I-I didn’t mean to, my legs just went numb…” Li Xia stammered, feeling utterly embarrassed.

It wasn’t exactly pain that Gu Weicheng felt, but rather…

When she fell just now, she had accidentally landed on a particularly sensitive spot between his legs.

To make matters worse, her soft, round chest was now pressed tightly against his solid torso, and he could distinctly feel its warmth and suppleness.

Gu Weicheng’s expression turned rigid with discomfort, but thankfully, the darkness of the room concealed his reaction.

“I’m fine. Just take your time and get up slowly,” he said, reaching out to support her as she carefully lifted herself off of him.

Gu Weicheng also picked up An An, who, surprisingly, was still sound asleep despite all the commotion.

Children really did have an impressive ability to sleep through anything.

Li Xia turned on the bedside lamp, instantly illuminating the dark room. As the warm light spread, they finally got a clear view of each other.

“Ahem… Your clothes are a bit messy,” Gu Weicheng glanced at her briefly before quickly averting his gaze.

Li Xia was wearing a nightgown specifically meant for sleeping, and its neckline was naturally looser than the clothes she usually wore outside. After the earlier mishap, the collar had slipped even lower, revealing a significant portion of her chest—along with a hint of cleavage.

She had an exceptionally well-proportioned figure, with a slender waist and curves in all the right places.

Especially after giving birth, her chest had become noticeably fuller than before, accentuating her silhouette. Now, with her neckline slipping down, a hint of exposed skin made for an undeniably tempting sight.

Li Xia looked down and, compared to Gu Weicheng’s flustered reaction, remained far more composed.

In reality, this amount of exposed skin would be nothing remarkable a few decades later. Off-the-shoulder tops, backless dresses, and crop tops were all things young women could wear confidently in public.

So, Li Xia didn’t think much of it—after all, it was just sleepwear. However, when she noticed Gu Weicheng’s restless gaze, she reached up and discreetly pulled her neckline back into place.

Looking at the collapsed bed, she muttered, “How did the bed even break?”

“I’ll check it in a bit to see what happened. There’s still another bed in the second bedroom. It’s early, so you should take An An over there and get some more rest.” Gu Weicheng glanced at the clock on the nightstand—it was still only a little past five.

He carried An An to the second bedroom first, tucking him in before returning for Li Xia.

She wasn’t injured, but her leg had gone numb. She limped slightly as she tried to walk. Seeing this, Gu Weicheng held her steady, guiding her to sit down before crouching beside her.

“I’ll give it a massage—it’ll help the numbness go away faster.”

As he spoke, he reached out and gently kneaded her calf, applying just enough pressure to stimulate circulation but not enough to hurt her.

Her waist was so slender that it seemed the slightest pressure could snap it in half.

“Hiss…”

Even so, Li Xia still couldn’t help but let out a soft, stifled whimper.

And this was her holding back—biting her teeth to suppress the sound. She was afraid that if she really cried out, it wouldn’t be appropriate.

She couldn’t be blamed, though. The numbness in her leg was unbearable, so much so that she felt even getting injured might not be as bad as this discomfort.

Hearing Li Xia’s soft, breathy sounds, Gu Weicheng’s hands froze for a moment.

He suddenly felt as if a feather were lightly tickling his chest—both electrifying and unbearably itchy. His whole body tensed.

That particular part of him, which had finally settled down, was now surging back to life.

Gu Weicheng gritted his teeth, forcing himself to endure it. To keep Li Xia from noticing anything unusual, he couldn’t afford to stop his movements.

The only telltale sign of his struggle was the fine beads of sweat gathering on his forehead.
