Chapter 26: Eclipsed
Zhao Xiaoning’s throat tightened. Fu Cheng’s attitude towards her was much worse than she had expected!
Why did it feel like Fu Cheng didn’t like her very much? He even seemed to have a bit of disgust?
But Zhao Xiaoning felt that she hadn’t done anything to offend him. Her reputation outside wasn’t bad either. She was a good girl in the eyes of her elders, hardworking, obedient, and sensible.
Although she wasn’t as beautiful and eye-catching as Song Shengsheng, she wasn’t bad-looking either.
There was no reason for Fu Cheng to dislike her.
Zhao Xiaoning thought for a moment. Fu Cheng was inherently cold and aloof, a rich kid from Beijing, with a bit of arrogance in his nature.
He just didn’t know her yet.
He hadn’t interacted with her much.
She didn’t believe that, after being reborn, she wouldn’t be able to win over Fu Cheng.
As for Fu Cheng, Zhao Xiaoning was determined to have him.
No one disliked the taste of power. This man who would stand at the pinnacle of power in the future, she wouldn’t let go.
After Fu Cheng returned home, he lit the coal stove.
He washed the ribs, added some red dates and yam, and stewed them into a soup.
Fu Cheng had been cooking his own meals when he was studying in Russia. His cooking skills were honed during that time.
Song Shengsheng was awakened by the fragrant aroma from the kitchen.
The rich aroma of meat immediately aroused her appetite.
Song Shengsheng changed her clothes and followed the smell into the kitchen. She was surprised to see Fu Cheng at home.
Fu Cheng explained, “I’m off today.”
Song Shengsheng nodded. Then she looked at the stove. “What are you stewing?”
Fu Cheng saw her swallowing saliva and couldn’t help but smile. “Ribs.”
He walked over and took her hand, leading her out. “It’s not ready yet. I bought you some meat buns on the way back. They’re still hot. Eat them first to fill your stomach.”
Song Shengsheng . After eating two large meat buns, she was still hungry.
She stretched her neck, eagerly looking into the kitchen, constantly asking him, “Fu Cheng, when will the ribs be ready?”
Fu Cheng said, “It needs to simmer for another half hour.”
He held her hand and continued, “Is your stomach feeling better today?”
Song Shengsheng usually wouldn’t hurt so much by the next day. She nodded. “Much better.”
She was about to pull her hand away from Fu Cheng’s palm when the intermittent sounds from outside the yard piqued her curiosity.
Song Shengsheng was also a gossip.
She couldn’t help but want to run out. Fu Cheng grabbed her back.
“Where are you going?”
“Didn’t you hear the noise? I’m going to see what’s going on outside.”
Fu Cheng raised an eyebrow. “You have energy now? Last night you were groaning and pretending to be in pain.”
Song Shengsheng heard him mocking her, stomped her foot, and turned away, ignoring him.
It was indeed lively outside. The families in the military compound were gathered around the entrance of Battalion Commander Ding’s house, chattering away.
“Your niece is really pretty.”
“Yes, she’s so beautiful.”
Battalion Commander Ding’s wife couldn’t help but feel proud. She smiled and said, “My niece is indeed pretty. She just turned eighteen, and many people have come to her house to propose.”
“She’s also ambitious. She found a job at the canteen.”
“Now her job is settled, but her personal life is still undecided. If anyone of you has a good match, don’t forget my niece.”
Anyone could tell that she was being humble.
With such a beautiful appearance, a job, and a city household registration, it would be incredibly easy for her to get married.
It was just that she was picky and had high standards.
At this time, the families in the military compound remembered an old incident. Wasn’t this the niece that Battalion Commander Ding’s wife wanted to introduce to Regiment Commander Fu?
They immediately understood.
These days, the news about Regiment Commander Fu’s family had spread everywhere.
He had hit his wife, and they were going to get a divorce.
Battalion Commander Ding’s wife had rushed to bring her niece here, obviously because she hadn’t given up hope.
It was a coincidence.
They turned their heads and saw Song Shengsheng standing at the back of the yard.
The girl stood in the bright sunlight, her skin tanned a delicate white, her eyes sparkling, charming and alluring.
They had thought that Battalion Commander Ding’s niece was pretty.
But compared to her, she instantly paled in comparison.
Then they looked at the man who followed behind her, his eyes fixed on her, as if he didn’t care about anything else.
They didn’t know what he said to Song Shengsheng, but the girl reluctantly let him take her hand and pulled her back into the house.
They were still a young couple, and their love for each other was evident.
It wasn’t like what was being spread outside.
The military compound was divided into houses, and the sound insulation wasn’t that good. Sometimes the neighbors could hear the soft sounds coming from Regiment Commander Fu’s bedroom by the window.
It was enough to melt your bones.
Just now, Regiment Commander Fu had practically carried her back into the house. Wasn’t that doting on her?
Everyone with discerning eyes could see that the rumors outside were nonsense.
Someone with ulterior motives was spreading gossip. They probably couldn’t stand seeing Song Shengsheng living a good life.
Thinking about it, their eyes became more subtle when they looked at Battalion Commander Ding’s niece. It was useless to bring her beautiful niece here.
The couple’s relationship was good, and outsiders couldn’t get in.
Battalion Commander Ding’s niece had just caught a glimpse of the man who came out of the yard and was lost in thought.
Regiment Commander Fu was really handsome, more handsome than any man she had ever seen.
He had a good temperament, looking like a military cadre.
He was young and promising.
The girl couldn’t help but feel her heart flutter. She had been reluctant before, but now that she had seen him, she thought, even if it was a second marriage, she would be willing!
On this side, Song Shengsheng was carried back into the house by Fu Cheng. She was still a little dissatisfied, not having seen enough of the drama.
She mumbled softly, “I haven’t heard anything yet.”
Fu Cheng glanced at her and said, “The wind is strong outside. Shouldn’t women like you be susceptible to the cold at a time like this? I think your stomach hasn’t hurt enough. You’re not learning your lesson at all.”
Song Shengsheng was speechless.
She always lost arguments with him.
Fu Cheng either wouldn’t say anything, or he would say something that would make you want to die.
Song Shengsheng slightly raised her chin, looking at the man’s cold profile. She walked over and gently took Fu Cheng’s hand.
She was trying very hard to make Fu Cheng like her.
She said in a sweet voice, “After you rubbed my stomach last night, it really didn’t hurt much.”
Fu Cheng still had no expression, as if he was unmoved.
He had heard her sweet nothings many times.
Seeing this, Song Shengsheng took his face in her hands and “smack” kissed his lips. “Besides, aren’t you here? If my stomach hurts, you’ll definitely help me rub my stomach.”
Fu Cheng discovered that Song Shengsheng was only shy when she was in bed at night.
During the day, she was always very bold.
She would hug him and kiss him without warning.
It was as if she was deliberately teasing him, testing his self-control.
The man’s knuckles tightened slightly, and the heat in his body was suppressed.
Fu Cheng was always more restrained during the day. He said seriously, “Don’t be silly.”
Song Shengsheng hummed and hawed in her heart. He wouldn’t let her kiss him during the day, but at night he wasn’t like this at all.
Just then, the postman delivered a letter.
It broke the romantic atmosphere in the room.
The postman confirmed the name and handed the letter to Song Shengsheng. Then he got on his bicycle and continued delivering mail.
Song Shengsheng glanced at the mailing address on the letter and subconsciously hid it behind her back.
It was a letter from Shen Zhishu in Yangcheng.
Fu Cheng saw her looking guilty and raised an eyebrow. “Who sent the letter?”
Song Shengsheng casually made up a name. “An old classmate from junior high school. He’s working at a stone factory now.”
Fu Cheng didn’t expose her. “Is that so?” He reached out to her. “Let me see.”
