Chapter 10
But even he was a bit confused.
“I don’t know what happened either,” he said.
“It just suddenly appeared by itself.”
Because a group of people had suddenly arrived, even though it wanted to get close to the human it felt strangely attached to, the mimosa had no choice but to curl up tightly, even pulling its leaves in.
Humans can’t communicate with strange beings, and the Ability Users Association had no way to figure out what exactly this one was. Fu Nanyao looked away, seeing he couldn’t get an answer, and was about to take “No. 233” away. But right at that moment, in front of everyone, the scared mimosa stretched out its leaf again. This time, it carefully wrapped itself around a nearby stone pillar.
Shi Yu: …
Fu Nanyao: …
The air went completely silent.
Han Chu Yi glanced at it and twitched his mouth.
“This guy really doesn’t want to go. It’s probably scared of going back into the lab jar.”
The mimosa tightly held onto the pillar. It clearly didn’t want to return. Maybe it sensed Shi Yu was the only normal human in the whole building and wanted to hide on him and escape without being noticed.
That actually explained its earlier behavior very well.
Fu Nanyao didn’t ask anything else. He just frowned and tapped the flowerpot. The little mimosa flinched like it was scared, reluctantly let go, and pulled back into the pot.
The man in charge of catching the mimosa nodded at them and left with the flowerpot. But Shi Yu wasn’t sure if he was imagining it—when Fu Nanyao left, did he glance at him with curiosity?
Han Chu Yi raised his eyebrows. Now that things were settled, he replied on the walkie-talkie.
“Forget it. No need to keep looking.”
“Captain Fu found the mimosa. We’re done here.”
Coworker: “That’s good. I thought we’d have to work overtime again.”
“Captain Fu is always quick to respond.”
The walkie-talkie crackled a few more replies. Han Chu Yi turned it off and finally looked at Shi Yu.
“I thought you left after your check-up?”
Shi Yu replied, “After getting my results, Mr. Wang told me to wait in the lounge for a bit because something came up.”
Who knew something weird like this would happen?
Han Chu Yi understood, though he looked a little speechless. Running into two strange incidents in one day—what bad luck.
He glanced away from Shi Yu’s eyes, trying not to look into them again. They were too captivating.
He reminded himself—he liked Brother Sang. He only admired this guy’s cat-like eyes, that’s all.
Han Chu Yi cleared his throat and came back to his senses. “Forget it. I’ll give you a ride back.”
“I’m free now anyway.”
He had planned to see Brother Sang, but Sang wasn’t around, and he couldn’t sleep here anyway. Might as well do something useful.
“Huh?”
Did Shi Yu hear that right?
He looked suspiciously at Han Chu Yi. Didn’t this guy dislike him? Why would he offer him a ride?
But Han Chu Yi seemed serious. After speaking, he picked up his car keys and looked at Shi Yu.
They locked eyes. Although Shi Yu didn’t trust this talkative guy much, after what just happened, he really didn’t want to stay here any longer. Who knew what else could go wrong?
“…Fine.”
Han Chu Yi: …
Why did he sound so reluctant?
Han Chu Yi’s face darkened for a second, but when Shi Yu followed him, he let it go.
Shi Yu walked with Han Chu Yi to the parking lot. As soon as the elevator doors opened, they saw a row of identical black vans—one of which was the one they came in.
Shi Yu thought Han Chu Yi would drive the same van. But instead, Han walked straight over and unlocked a sports car.
The cool design and the roar of the engine immediately grabbed Shi Yu’s attention.
His eyes widened—wasn’t this the same limited edition car he had seen online with his fans a few days ago?
He once said: “No man could resist this car!”
It was so beautiful!
Shi Yu stared at it seriously—like seeing the car of his dreams.
Han Chu Yi opened the door and saw Shi Yu frozen in place, and couldn’t help but smirk. Told you no one can resist this car. It was worth all the trouble to bring it here.
This little rookie clearly hadn’t seen much of the world. Totally stunned.
“What are you waiting for? Get in.”
Shi Yu snapped back to reality: …
Wait a minute.
“We’re going back in this?” Isn’t that a bit too much?
Han Chu Yi laughed. “What are you worried about? That van made my back hurt. What, can’t we treat ourselves a little? No rule says we have to take the van.”
“Get in.”
With that, Shi Yu didn’t argue. For the first time, he didn’t resist and got into the car of his dreams.
Han Chu Yi might talk too much, but this car—wow.
Shi Yu sighed in awe and buckled his seatbelt right away.
“Let’s go. I’m ready.”
Han Chu Yi looked over before starting the engine.
“Just so you know—sports cars are fast. Can you handle it?”
He didn’t want this guy to throw up in the car. If needed, they could still switch to the backup van.
Shi Yu thought about it and shook his head. “I’ve never gotten carsick.”
“Go ahead. If I feel anything, I’ll let you know.”
But as the car sped out of the parking lot, Shi Yu suddenly remembered something.
“Oh right. Aren’t you supposed to blur my senses or something?” He was worried he might see something sensitive on the way back.
Before he could finish, Han Chu Yi laughed.
“At this speed, if you can still see anything, I’ll punish myself when we get back.”
As soon as he said that, the car shot forward like an arrow.
For the first time in his life, Shi Yu experienced riding in a real sports car—and he couldn’t even open his eyes, let alone see anything.
All he could hear was the roar of the wind.
Because they were driving in an empty area, the trip that had taken over an hour before now only took about 50 minutes—though it came with a racing heart.
Han Chu Yi was waiting for Shi Yu to complain, but even after they reached the outskirts of the city, Shi Yu said nothing. Han thought maybe this guy really wasn’t scared.
He eased up and brought the car to a stop.
Shi Yu only relaxed his grip after the car finally stopped and let out a deep breath.
“We’re here?”
“Yeah. This is your neighborhood, right?”
Seeing that Shi Yu still had his eyes closed, Han Chu Yi chuckled.
“Just open your eyes and see for yourself.”
Shi Yu’s eyelashes twitched. When he opened his eyes, sure enough—they were right downstairs from his building.
After entering the city, Han Chu Yi had slowed down a bit, so they arrived a little later. Still, it was way faster than before.
Han Chu Yi raised an eyebrow, expecting a reaction. But then he turned and saw Shi Yu suddenly frown and gag a little.
He was shocked.
“Wait—what’s wrong?”
“Are you… carsick?”
He had thought Shi Yu was fine. But now he looked like he was suffering. Panicked, Han Chu Yi quickly grabbed a bottle of water from the car.
Shi Yu took a deep breath and after gagging a few times, felt much better. He wasn’t actually carsick—just not used to riding in such a fast car for the first time. But overall, he actually kind of enjoyed it.
But when Shi Yu suddenly gagged just now, it seemed to have startled Han Chu Yi. The confident and proud young man’s expression changed a little. He looked like he wanted to say something, but didn’t, and quietly handed over an opened bottle of water.
“Thanks,” Shi Yu said.
He took a deep breath, took off his mask, and got ready to drink some water. He didn’t notice Han Chu Yi looking at him from the side.
Han Chu Yi gave him the water without thinking. When Shi Yu took off his mask, Han didn’t think too much of it at first. But when Shi Yu finished drinking and looked up, Han Chu Yi suddenly froze.
The young man had just gagged, so his long black eyelashes were still wet with tiny drops of tears from the reaction. The corners of his eyes were a little red.
And only now… did Han Chu Yi finally see what Shi Yu looked like without the mask—for the first time.
