Chapter 20

Because Fu Nanyao’s mutation level suddenly became stable, the Association of Espers paid a lot of attention to him. Unfortunately, Fu Nanyao couldn’t remember anything about what happened.

The surveillance at Beishan Hospital had already been destroyed when the “Man in High Heels” let the strange realm go wild.

The higher-ups of the association couldn’t find anything, so they had to start a slow investigation.

Even Shen Yan frowned a bit. No matter how you looked at it, if they could find the reason Fu Nanyao’s mutation became stable, it would be like a new hope for all Espers who had fused with strange powers and were on the verge of losing control.

Sadly, there were no clues for now.

Sang Huaiyu glanced at the person in the examination room. He wasn’t surprised by the lack of answers. But as he slightly closed his eyes, he thought of Shi Yu. Somehow… he felt Fu Nanyao’s change might be related to Shi Yu. After all, even he found that human kind of special.

Still, he wasn’t in a rush. He had a lot of patience.

Strange changes don’t happen for no reason. As he lowered his gaze, Sang Huaiyu thought about how he had Han Chuyi greet Shi Yu for him earlier, but it ended up scaring Shi Yu. He tilted his head in confusion. Did Shi Yu… not like him?

Logically, with his good looks, no one should dislike him.

Sang Huaiyu looked at himself in the hallway mirror and narrowed his eyes, deep in thought.

The next morning, Shi Yu was woken up by hunger.

He had run around the hospital all day yesterday and didn’t get to eat. Then he was so tired at night that he fell straight asleep after getting home. He didn’t think about anything else, which is why his stomach woke him up at just 9 a.m.

Shi Yu, who had planned to sleep until noon on the weekend: “…”

Stupid stomach, why are you always so hungry?

He struggled between wanting to sleep and needing to eat, but in the end, his growling stomach won. With a grumble, Shi Yu threw off his blanket and got out of bed, full of complaints.

Shi Yu thought that not even the strange things around him could compare to how annoyed he was right now. Who understands the pain of wanting to keep your eyes shut but being forced to eat?

But the more he delayed, the hungrier he got. So he grit his teeth and went to check the fridge.

As soon as he opened it, he realized he was running low on food. The supplies he stocked last week were almost gone — only a few bags of frozen buns and some fried chicken were left.

Looking at the plain buns and bright-colored fried chicken, only the oily fried food looked kind of appetizing. Without thinking much, Shi Yu opened the chicken bag and tossed it into the oven.

After finishing that, he leaned against the kitchen counter holding his stomach, waiting while the food heated up. Slowly, his bad mood started to fade.

A little shy mimosa plant in the house heard the noise in the kitchen and peeked out. It saw Shi Yu nearby.

The pretty human had his back turned, lazily tilting his head to drink water. Even with messy hair in the morning light, he still looked very good.

The little mimosa blushed. “Wow… so pretty.”

It was early morning, and the shy plant’s face turned red.

“Hmm, is someone there?”

Shi Yu turned his head, sensing movement in the living room. He guessed it was the mimosa.

He paused for a moment and then asked, “Do you want something to eat too?”

He wasn’t sure why, maybe because they’d been living together for a few days, but even though he couldn’t really see the mimosa, he felt its presence just now. He blinked in surprise — that was a new feeling.

The mimosa didn’t expect the pretty human to talk to it and was so happy it shook its leaves. But it shyly turned down the offer. It couldn’t eat human food.

Shi Yu nodded, understanding. Then he suddenly felt awkward — “Uh… did I forget to feed it these past few days?”

He wasn’t sure if the little thing had gone hungry. He had been so busy lately that he nearly forgot. But now that he remembered…

While the chicken was heating, Shi Yu waved the mimosa over.

“By the way, I forgot to ask — what do you usually eat when you don’t have powers?”

“I meant to reward you after the last livestream, but didn’t have time. Today I’ll make it up to you.”

What?

Shi Yu wanted to give it a reward?

The mimosa was so shocked and happy it almost jumped up. Though it was a little confused, who doesn’t love gifts — especially from such a beautiful human?

Its cool leaves suddenly warmed up. After being shy for a while, it gently placed one leaf in Shi Yu’s hand and made a small gesture.

Shi Yu paused, unsure what it meant. But strangely enough… he kind of understood.

“Does this mean rainwater?” he asked.

So… the mimosa usually drinks rainwater? He thought about it.

The mimosa nodded hard.

Shi Yu picked up his phone. “Hmm, let me see.”

“It’s not raining these days, so you probably can’t collect any yourself. I’ll check online. Maybe someone has some.”

The internet has everything — rainwater should be no problem.

Sure enough, not long after placing an order, Shi Yu got a reply:

“I have some rainwater stored for making wine.”

“How many jars do you want?”

Shi Yu looked at the mimosa’s size. “Just one jar.”

“I’ll have a delivery guy send it over.”

They quickly settled the deal. Shi Yu showed the mimosa the chat.

“Alright.”

“When the delivery arrives, I’ll have them leave it at the door. Don’t forget to pick it up.”

The mimosa happily responded right away.

Shi Yu put his phone away. Just then, he heard a “ding” sound — the oven was done.

He turned to take out the hot fried chicken.

It smelled amazing — crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Just looking at the golden crust made his stomach growl even louder.

Shi Yu took a photo of the food with his phone and posted it online, feeling very excited.

Even though it was just fast food, it looked really good.

But just as he picked it up to take a bite, a wave of nausea suddenly hit him. His stomach twisted painfully, and he froze for a moment before quickly running to the bathroom.

Soon, the sound of dry heaving came from inside.

Early in the morning, Shi Yu was nauseous for a long time. His stomach burned, and he didn’t know what was happening.

Was the fried chicken bad?

But it didn’t smell strange at all.

Shi Yu had never felt this sick before. His eyes were even tearing up.

Outside, the little Mimosa got scared. It had been waiting for the delivery, but now it quickly went to pour a glass of water for the human.

After knocking on the bathroom door for a while, Shi Yu finally rinsed his mouth and croaked out a tired “Thanks.”

The Mimosa waved its leaves, clearly worried.

What happened?

Why did he suddenly throw up?

Shi Yu was a bit helpless. He had felt unwell for days and had even gone to the hospital. But then he got caught in that strange incident and never finished his check-up.

Feeling the empty nausea in his belly, Shi Yu frowned. Maybe he should go to a temple and pray or something.

Why had his luck been so bad lately?

Han Chuyi was furious. Even though he couldn’t believe it, Shi Yu had actually deleted him. The always-smiling Han Chuyi now looked cold, glaring at his phone in frustration.

But he still couldn’t bring himself to go find Shi Yu.

After being mad for a while, he threw the phone aside.

Forget it. If he deleted me, then fine. I don’t care.

The next day, people at the Ability Users Association could tell that the young master was in a bad mood.

Even though he still smiled and looked sunny like usual, those who knew him could sense something was off.

He used to be like an eager puppy, but now it was like someone had upset him. His smiles didn’t reach his eyes, and he gave people a creepy feeling.

That morning, during a meeting about “Fu Nanyao,” Han Chuyi sat there looking bored. He didn’t care about Fu Nanyao’s situation. Whether it was an accident or not, even the top leaders hadn’t figured it out yet, so why rush into a meeting?

He leaned back in his chair, clearly not paying attention.

Shen Yan glanced at him, not sure what he was thinking. He also felt the meeting was pointless at this stage.

The whole meeting went by half-heartedly, with everyone lost in their own thoughts. Only when it was announced to be over did people finally react.

Sang Huaiyu stood up first, ready to leave. Han Chuyi, who had been daydreaming the whole time, suddenly snapped back to reality.

“Brother Sang.”

The sudden voice made Sang Huaiyu stop. His curly hair fell over his face as his eyes, covered by a white ribbon, calmly turned toward Han Chuyi.

Fu Nanyao was still in place.

Shen Yan, who had just stood up, frowned, thinking Han Chuyi was going to bother Sang Huaiyu again.

But the arrogant young master hesitated, clicked his tongue in frustration, then asked a completely unrelated question:

“Brother Sang, that day at Beishan Hospital, when you asked me to greet Shi Yu for you…”

“Have you met him before?”

Han Chuyi had been upset ever since Shi Yu deleted him. He had been distracted all day. Now that the meeting was over, he couldn’t help but go after Sang Huaiyu to ask about that day.

He thought it was just a casual question, but unexpectedly, someone else reacted.

When he heard Shi Yu’s name, Fu Nanyao actually turned his head — his first reaction in the whole meeting.

Sang Huaiyu narrowed his eyes, surprised Han Chuyi asked about this.

Does it have something to do with Shi Yu?

He paused slightly and let his gray eyes settle on Han Chuyi, trying to read his expression.

Was this human… struggling with something?

Interesting. This little human used to look at him with admiration. But now, hearing Shi Yu’s name made him act strangely.

Noticing the hidden glances around them, Sang Huaiyu curved his lips slightly, amused.

Thinking about the young man who seemed to avoid him, he smiled and said with interest,

“Oh, Shi Yu?”

“I saw him at the Ability Users Association a few days ago.”

“And I…”

“Fell in love with him at first sight.”
